Kyo:Well unless we hold the convention in germany, it's either going to cost money for a flight and place to stay, or I won't be able to attend.

I'm not against the idea, but if you want one in the US, it will have to be user organized.

the other benefit of holding it in germany is if you wind up with a farm or a bunker or something you could just hold it there, i doubt it'd be large enough to warrant anything particularly big

though really i think your problem is the problem most of us have here, not many of us are well-off financially. even if we could get someone very generous to pay for it, getting there is something that not too many people could afford

while this is all on the table though, i'd be totally down for another sydney meet-up, the last one (3 PEOPLE OMG) was pretty cool

the app was something that was happening for a while, i'm not sure where it went or how it ended up

e: wasn't an app, it was a mobile reader for comics and information on it can be found here and here

the convention idea has been brought up a few times, there was an online one but the site isn't really big enough to warrant an entire convention just for itself. maybe a stall at a bigger convention could be a more reasonable option but nobody (apart from people running stalls for their own comics) has really stepped up to want to do it

still, i agree that both are cool ideas

TheOneBlueGecko:Also, played around with this site that "analyzes" your writing to say who you write like. Joe Hill (Stephen King's son) had posted, amused, that it told him he writes like Stephen King. So, out of the 4 short stories I popped in I got Arthur C. Clarke and Cory Doctorow each twice...now if only I was as good as either of them.

i remember putting some actual writing in there and refreshing it a few times, i got like 5 different people from the same block of text

then i put some random gibberish in and it gave me the name of some professional writer so i'm not really sure that site is entirely qualified to make judgements about things. still, a bit of fun

e: i also recall putting in the work of actual authors and not getting the author whose work it was, even in cases where i knew the author was available as an option in the system

OnlyFoolsAndVikings:hey man don't be so down on yourself

a) having dreams doesn't make you a self-centered piece of shit, it makes you human

b) you don't get to decide how many people buy your book or whether publishers will think your book is good enough to publish, get that shit out there and let the world decide. worst that could happen is you figure out what you need to get to the point of being published

c) very few people are successful =/= nobody is ever successful. there are tons of successful authors, there's nothing but yourself stopping you from being one of them

d) buzzard is very wise, surprisingly so

basically just quit being so down on yourself, quit worrying and just go for it, the worst that could come from sending letters around is still better than the best that could happen from doing nothing with your work

e: oh and if you are feeling like you're not worthy of being a successful author (whatever that means) all you need to do is look at what you've done so far. you've finished a book, basically. whether it's good or bad you have the dedication to actually get that far through the project, go back to improve what needed improving and keep doing that in future as comments and critiques are made. if you've got the dedication to keep working on something that big, you've already got like 80% of what it takes to be an author

OnlyFoolsAndVikings:the most outrageous part of that whole post was that you have cut your hair

old news, that happed ere i left port mac

Kyo:oh man i sure am glad i made these clockwork magnification glasses, so now when i need to look at something up close, i can only see gears

joking aside, that's cool stuff. I particularly like the handle on the sword

yeah it's one of those tacky decorative things that are kinda useless. i prefer vaguely functional/faux functional stuff but they take a lot more work and i am very inexperienced

and thanks, the handle on the sword was something i thought i would give up on halfway through but it didn't take quite as long as i was expecting from the outset

SO HEY i bet you all think i'm a lazy son of beach who does nothing all the time and you'd mostly be right but recently i've been MAKING THINGS

i've been kinda wanting to put some of this stuff up for a while, only just got access to a camera so enjoy

or don't

w/e

ANYWAY

project 1: the steampunk gun
yes it's something that's been done to death but hey, it's classic and a good place to start. plus i had the gun lying around so whatever
Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/gun/gunfull.jpg

woot looks just like every other one

Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/gun/gunart.jpg

ANGLES

Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/gun/guncogs.jpg

i like these, but then again i chose to put them on

Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/gun/gunhilda.jpg

fairly straightforward, the handle is leather 'tied on' with copper wire for visual effect, it's actually all glued

Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/gun/gunwatch.jpg

the other side has some bits of dead watches in case you're feeling malevolent
ROUND 2: a thing
so at some point during project one i got bored of sticking random things onto guns so i took a break and this happened
Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/eye/eyeclose.jpg

'what is it?', you may ask

you don't deserve to know, philistine

w/e i'll demonstrate
Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/eye/eyeon.jpg

top hat also included but it's kinda camera shy
PROJECT 3: WHEN GUNS AREN'T ENOUGH
only a macho america hero uses guns
i am australia hero, we are multiculture
Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/sword/swofull.jpg

Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/sword/swoclose.jpg

Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/sword/swohilt.jpg

to mix things up from the gun i decided to do the hilt as copper wire wrapped in leather LOLSORANDOM XD
and finally
project 4: THEY TOLD ME I COULD BECOME ANYTHING
so i became a creepy stalker shark
Image: http://doatm.webcomic.ws/files/mask/maskdark.jpg

this happened around midnight, idk where it came from we just had leather spare
and that's that for now, i wanna do some shenanigans with a top hat later but i gotta get the bits sorted for that yet

it may or may not involve a working clock

my father's girlfriend showed me how to make lebanese coffee so i figured i'd try it but i'm the only one here at the moment so i had this whole pot of coffee and nobody to share it with and i barely ever drink coffee so my tolerance for this stuff is basically zero but i'm drinking the whole pot anyways

TheOneBlueGecko:Oh you British/Commonwealth countries and your "revisions". Though not as confusing as the book I read recently where they were going to their representatives "surgery".

Really though, making out in the library is just weird and distracting for those around...but mostly weird.

unless you're in the erotica section, then it would make a bit of sense

OnlyFoolsAndVikings:There were two people making out aggressively in the library today at the study desks and I really needed to plug in my laptop charger because my laptop was about to die and the only electrical outlet was right behind the couple making out and I was like: "fuck ok maybe they'll be too distracted and I ca sneak up and plug in my laptop without them noticing"

turns out they did notice and though my laptop is now charging I can't help but feel I have ruined these two people's day

you've taught them to check for important things in the area before beginning makeouts, it's a valuable life lesson

they should expect these things being in an important and public place

Nama:I have to give a speech to the class. I cant do this. I hate public speaking. help.

if possible, try and relax about the whole thing. going into it calm means that even if you do make a mistake, you can brush it off, keep going and nobody will care really. practice helps. not just practice in front of a mirror, practice in front of other people to get a feel for the whole being in the spotlight thing

there's one thing that helped me, although i'm not sure it's suited to you or your situation. whenever we had public speaking things the whole class had to do it, so i could just tell myself that everyone else was just as worried. if i messed something up, there'd be some sympathy there. maybe not much, maybe just a "oh shit hope i don't do that" but it gave me the confidence that if i did mess up it wouldn't be a big deal. confidence is all you need not to mess up anyways

good luck with it anywho

Loungegecko:DONE WITH HIGH SCHOOL FOREVER!
and I only cried a little bit :)

i never got the crying at the end of high-school thing, like sure back before the internet it meant there was a fair chance you'd never be able to talk to half the people ever again but not these days. plus there's the added bonus of not having to attend high school anymore, which i thought was swell

as an aside, how old are you? i always thought you were older than me but you're only just now finishing high school
