I was confident about my story until I started to show it to people. Gah. I'm too easily influenced. I need to get used to some people just not liking it. I always try and fail at pleasing everyone D:

You gotta like your own story first before you can expect others too. I tell myself, when I start worrying about stuff like that, there's so many people in the world, at least a handful of them have to think like me. And I like my own story, so if I can just reach out to those like-minded people, maybe it'll make a few connections. Of course, that could be a total rationalization. I don't worry too much about my story not being liked, but moreso the way I present it and the general atmosphere Augustos has. I think it's too light hearted and goofy for a lot of my target audience or for its genre.

Also, I wouldn't worry, because Remnants has about as many subscribers as Augustos has and I started way back in January. :p

mushroomisland:But on a different subject...
snarkington:Clearly, with artists like Kupo, the use of color is not a compensation for anything but just another tool that she uses very well.

But wait "she"..? Kupo, are you a girl o_o

Ah, whoops. Since Kupo didn't specify gender I probably should've used androgynous language. I don't actually know Kupo and made an assumption, so I'm sorry if it was incorrect or if gendered language was undesired.

KentuckyFriedPopcorn:That was actually my quote above that you mis-attributed to Snarkington. Not a big deal except that I wouldn't want Snark to be mad over my rants being put in his mouth. :D

I'M SO MAD THAT RANTS ARE BEING PUT IN MY MOUTH
MAYBE I'LL RANT ABOUT IT

Personally, I don't take as much issue with coloring used to hide sub-par artwork as I do with really bad coloring that ruins great artwork. Because it's more tragic. I loved the sepia inkwork done for the first issue of Girl Genius, but after that they switched to terrible photoshop coloring. Shit made me so sad.

Whenever I'm hit with the overwhelming desire to pick up current superhero comics, I'm usually thrown by the rampant bad photoshop. I want to love superhero comics so bad, but the photoshop. Somebody take it away from them please. I think I often prefer the cheesy primary-color newspaper Golden Age coloring jobs just because they're so much harder to screw up.

Not that...it hasn't been screwed up, too.

Lol. Thanks. Sorry about getting all whiny. Pageviews were low these few days, some of my friends said some insensitive things, and my mood was bitter.

And I think Augustos would take off a lot of fans if you advertise (if you want). I don't think I've seen you advertise. But overall I do like it. And I subscribe to comics that I really really like :)

I never read superhero comics so I wouldn't know. But you just don't like photoshop colors in general or do they really do a horrible job..?

I actually prefer the look of older newsprint-style comics, but I recognize that this is probably primarily nostalgia on my part. But yeah, I look at many modern comics and am just appalled by how bad the art is - Using a lot of fancy Photoshop coloring to spackle over badly drawn underpinnings seems to be a thing now, unfortunately.

There's nothing wrong with using photoshop. If an artist has good sense of palette, especially, photoshop is just another means to an end. A very pretty and eye-pleasing end. It just seems like every time I try to pick up a new mainstream comic from the shelf, my eyes are vomited on by lens flare and muddy palettes. And there are weird issues with giving some objects three-dimensional shading while others look oddly flat. It all just hits me wrong.

I think the problem is that work done on the computer has that much more chance of looking stiff and awkward if the artist doesn't know what they're doing. There are a bunch of short cut tools at the artist's disposal, whereas in traditional media, if you don't know how to blend it just doesn't blend. But it doesn't blend in kind of a charming, human way.

I don't think my gender is all that important (which is why I don't put the gender icon next to my username), but to put all questions to rest, I'm a chick. But you can call me a he or a she, I don't really mind either way.

I'm also against bad Photoshop coloring in superhero comics. The covers for issues are colored beautifully but the inside artwork is just so terrible. Actually, colors for the sake of colors is one of the worst ways to go, aesthetically.

..at least they try to cover it up. And I do agree bad photoshop is just..bad. I always read b/w manga as a child, so colors are also kind of weird new thing to me. But they do end up nice, mostly anyways, and I am now in this weird position where I prefer color on webcomics but b/w on printed comics.

Imagine a glasses-wearing Asian chick who badly needs a haircut, instead.

I like to think of myself as a blue computer screen that reads "be a clown."

It's true! There are very few guys who use emoticons in copious amounts. :D

And yes deviantArt reveals my secret goddammit.

Every time I am led to believe false personas. Fools isn't really a shirtless bearded barbarian. MoW isn't a pineapple. Kupo isn't a man with beard.
THE WORLD IS LYING TO ME.

I could be a shirtless man with a beard

you never know

perhaps I use these photos of a blonde teenager in the Pictures of You thread as just a cover to lure others into a false sense of security?

Wait, actually, I think my love of Zork demands that I call you AFGNCAAP (Ageless, Faceless, Gender-Neutral, Culturally-Ambiguous Adventure Person). Also that means I get to be a talking gas lamp.

Fun pop quiz! Does anyone know what my icon picture is from? Oh wait maybe that question belongs in a different thread.

Read the new Flash, the base of all the art is done with water colors, for most of the comic, other than the Flash's costume, the colors are sort of muted, but really beautiful.

Here is a link to one of the initial inks http://yfrog.com/z/h0px0bboj I guess you would call it.

Here is the same page colored, I am sure in Photoshop or something like that, as I think they all use that. http://www.dccomics.com/comics/the-flash-2011/the-flash-9

Hey, that looks pretty chill. Also kind of kinky.

Maybe this means the Rainbow Raider, forgotten villain from the Flash rogues gallery, will finally have a good artist?!

No, that is never going to happen.

Why is it always my fault when this thread starts talking about things other than webcomics.

It's okay! We all get down in the dumps about or work now and then (I'm kind of in that slump right now), and it's a big reason I don't show very many people my comic in person because a lot of people don't have a lot to say about it, and to me, that's worse than saying "I don't like it".

Eh, I've been meaning to pump some money into my PW account, I've just been lazy. Other than that, I usually try to cross-promote it and stuff, or do any kind of free advertising that I can.

Kupocake:There are very few guys who use emoticons in copious amounts. :D

Dammit, I really TRY to stop using emoticons, because I'm the only guy I know that uses them as much as I do (at least, at my age 8|), I'm just so damn addicted to them. They make me feel so.... alive.

Also, what does the term "muddy" mean, specifically in referring to color? I just get a very vague sense of the word, but apparently, I have muddy colors and I want to know how to... not have muddy colors.
