Maybe I missed it, but has anyone mentioned the AMC series yet? I figured all of us would be checking out a reality show on our genre. Have you seen it, the first episode was not so good but it's really improved since then. How about your thoughts....
I'm a big fan of Kevin Smith (If you've seen the evening with Kevin Smith DVD I'm in the audience right after he says Bat Dance! And Mondo advertised on his S.I.R. station during the first week) So I've been checking out comic book men. I gotta say it is pretty good, but I can't help but think it would be better without the people coming in to sell stuff. Yeah I get the pawn star stuff is kinda the hook, but the interaction between these dorks geeking out over comics is the best part of the show. Especially Brian making fun of their nerdy habits
I like Kevin Smith. I like Chasing Amy, and Dogma of the movies he has done. I love his 'Evening with' videos a lot.
Comic Book Men is ok, I wasnt that hooked on it after watching the first episode. I did walk away with a 'Pawn Stars' feel (and I hate that show). I do like the comic trivia and the back and forth banter, but I dont know if they have enough going on in the show to keep me coming back to see what is going to happen next. I will keep up with it just because this is my hobby, and hope for the best.
Keep on Stripping! (Updating! you pack of dirty dirties!)
I loved the Pawn stars, but the show is a complete farce. According to what I've found the show is completely staged, which I kind of figured. The worst part is that their shop isn't even a pawn shop anymore. From what I've heard it's an over priced souvenir shop. It's one thing to stage things for a show, but to essentially cash in on your show by turning it into a tourist attraction is pretty lame.
I think the show got better as it went along. But I like the parts with the guys just talking and geeking out more than the "Pawn Stars" -type stuff. But I've been watching mainly to see if I can pick up some tips on comics in general, like what's selling right now; that kind of stuff.
I feel so bad for Ming, though. He always tries his best to help the store out, and they just make fun of him. :( Although, his zombie idea probably would've worked out better if they did it at Halloween time.
Like everyone else has said, if this show focused on the conversations between Smith and his crew at the shop, it would probably be entertaining. The "Evening with Kevin Smith" dvds show that Smith can be intelligent, thoughtful, and funny on a variety of subjects.
With that said, Comic Book Men just kinda sucks.. or at least the premier episode did. And I really didn't feel motivated to give it a second chance.
