I don't know if it's appropriate to ask about other webcomic platforms in a comicfuy forum, but im still in the process of looking for the right one for the comic. And i came across comicpress. Is there anyone out here who has used comic press before?
how would you rate comicpress in:
1. Highly (and preferably easily) customizeable design.
2. Have my own domain name
3. Easy to use/navigate

Just..if anyone used it before, tell me how it is. :)
Thanks!

1. Comicpress does have a modifyable design, afaik only using HTML though, so if you're expecting something like the simple layout editor on here, to my knowledge that doesn't exist. On the other hand, there's a lot of premade themes available for it

2. Comicpress isn't a service, it's a tool. You will need to install it on a server somewhere, and depending on that server you can either have your own domain or not. Generally if you pay you're always able to, otherwise usually not. Of course you can also use a custom domain with CF if you weren't aware

3. Last time I looked at it, it was a horrible complicated and confusing mess. But my opinion might be slightly biased anyways :P

i pretty much have to add it manually. There's a couple references to it here and there, but basically you just need to message me the domain and comic you want to link it to you, and I tell you what to do.

You have to actually buy a domain first. Then you set up the nameservers for the domain. Then you poke Kyo and he waves his magic admin stick over the .htaccess file. And then poof! Custom URL.

...You can also use a DotTK domain. They do DNS and stuff now.

EDIT: Kyo you gosh-darned ninja!

well you got two options on here, you can either try using html or you can create a new simple layout, which requires no knowledge of code. You can't edit html layout with the simple layout editor or vice versa, they're seperate systems that work on different principles

If you're not sure, you can create a test comic and try giving it a simple layout.

I've used it, and I'm not sure if it was the comicpress or the host that we had, but I hated it.

Wordpress + Webcomic/Inkblot is much simpler. I use it for one of my comics and have had no problems with it. I had very little html/css experience and I was able to customize my site.

I also have my own domain for my comicfury comic which works nicely as well (thanks Kyo).

Inkblot is the theme used with the Webcomic plug-in. You can learn more and see samples here: Webcomic + Wordpress
