Because people may find the rules list above somewhat confusing, here's an somewhat more clear explanation:
That's Politics! is a fairly simple game. The idea is a derivation of mafia where there is no formal mafia designated at the start. Instead, players form alliances on their own.
---------------
Basic Structure
---------------
The game keeps the basic structure of mafia; there is a day phase and a night phase, each a day long.
During the day, the town lynches one person. Each person gets one vote, which is posted in the main thread. The person with the most votes at the end of the day is lynched. A tie between second and third place results in a coin flip determining who is the lynch.
During the night, people invite other people into their alliance. There is no night kill.
Private messaging is encouraged, and almost requisite, given how many alliances should exist.
The game ends when a specific alliance has more than half the players considering it as their primary alliance at the end of the day. All players who considered that alliance their primary alliance win.
Note: You can totally arrange your alliances secretly, or you could arrange them publicly, or however you like.
---------
Alliances
---------
During the night, players may join any alliance. Each alliance makes it's own chatzy room so they can chat privately. Sending a link to Sleepy is considered a courtesy. The name of the Chatzy room must be the name of your alliance (for identification purposes)
Each alliance may only have up to five people in it.
A player can join infinite alliances.
However, he may only have one primary alliance.
The player may change his primary alliance at any time. However, he may only choose any one alliance as his primary alliance once. So if he chooses Alliance A as his primary alliance and changes his mind, he can't choose A as his alliance later.
If you wish to join an alliance or designate it your primary alliance, you must send a PM to Sleepy about it.
-----
Roles
-----
3 players, at the beginning of the game, will get special abilities during the night phase. The three roles are the following:
Seer
The Seer is capable of scrying a member of his primary alliance at night and finding out whether that member has the same primary alliance.
Sheriff
The Sheriff is capable of locking up one person every night, who loses their vote and their role action the next day and night phases.
Assassin
Once, during the game, the assassin can kill someone.
