I know people have shared this a bit around the forums and on the chat, but it is always fun to see everyone's work from when they were just starting out. Whether you were terrible at first or started out with amazing magical drawing skills that have just gotten better with time this is the place to share where you have come from.

One of my earlier comics, from about 12ish years ago...I have no idea what is going on with that pose on the bottom
image
But one day "Graphic Novel Man" will actually have a graphic novel of his own.
EDIT:Wow, ok I just read over the text, what does that even mean? I have no idea.

Or this wonder, from maybe 8 years ago...a lovely fairy. She seems to be holding her hair oddly, I don't know why.
image

And this one, not actually that bad, from about 7 years ago, I think, probably my best work at that time. Yes, the guy apparently has no internal organs, but that's cool.

Here is more what my art looks like now. (Spoilered for size)

I don't really have too many before and after pics to show, but I know I started getting a lot better when I let myself slip into the style that flowed naturally from me rather than just trying to draw a certain way.

I find you'll always do better if you just let your true colors come out.

Oh man, I'm going to get a kick out of this thread. My old art, and just my whole mentality 5-6 years ago was sooo douchey. Anyways, here we go.

Believe it or not, this used to be the look I had imagined for the main character of my current comic, Everett. Back then he was just known as Eve.

I... I don't even know.

And here's another picture of Everett, as we was about four years ago. I don't know where he got a hold of those Japanese wooden sandals (my attempt at having a Japanese character design?)

I may post more later, this is actually pretty recent compared to some stuff I have on an old deviantart account I have before I even came up with my Augustos storyline.

Art when I drew by hand, scanned, and redid digitally with a mouse...

And then my first drawing with my tablet...

I don't have any from way before last year because I got rid of them all. xD I facepalm when I see mistakes.

ohgod, I have a huge box at home full of notebooks, that I filled by drawing at school, from when I was between 11 and 14. Every once in a while when I'm back there, I go through them. :') I wish I could scan in some of the comics, because.. well LOL.

Can't show you those, so here's the first thing I drew on my tablet, 7 years ago (howtimeflies).

...my tendency to draw elf ears and loving the female torso started a looong time ago.
Man, I probably should have improved more in 7 whole years. u_u

And the most recent thing for comparison.

oh my god, I was still in high school when I drew this short comic (7 pages) while in class...this was notebook paper. later I scanned it, and cleaned it on Paint. Yes, Paint. I even added little effects....hahaha, photoshop was so far away from my knowledge haha!
and in this story everything is just sooooo super clichéd and dramatic...pffft, it was like a mexican soap-opera...and that's saying A LOT. XD

and then this (4 years ago) is my first attempt at Photoshop, with scanned lineart and mouse. having a tablet back then was just wishful thinking.

and here's a meme I did last year comparing two drawings in a span of 6 years.

so.much.fun. (:

Oh man this just brings back so much memories
I still have tons of my old sketches starting from 2009 (when I decided to start drawing people) and I even found a "manga" I tried to make in like 8th grade it even reads from right to left it's so bad
These are the only ones I have scanned in my laptop and these two were my favorite drawings back then

the worst part about this is that I used to be a really conceited artist and I would brag about how good I was sIGHS

All my drawings were crap until a year ago, when i learned how to take art seriously.

I wonder if I have any old stuff on my laptop…

Okay, here's a comparison to some recent art…

I used to draw ninja kitties all of the time and flying underwears.

I don't remember much about them, I just know that Slayne was inspired by that ninja cabbit whose name is 'Scythe Slayne' and as a tribute for him Slayne's real name is 'Cy' derived from 'SCYthe'

IT'S WEIRD, BUT APPARENTLY I USED TO BE BORDERLINE FURRY-ARTIST OR SOMETHING? IDK.

I just found my old notebooks, so I'll be posting them here later on. It'll be very painful.

TheOneBlueGecko, you read my mind! I was thinking of doing a thread like this last night...

:)

Since I'm a hoarder, here's a bunch of old stuff I've done in the past times (a lot of images warning warning):

Also I haver a bunch from a story about vampires my friend and I were gonna make. It was... interesting.

Oh, what a fun thread! :D Let's see what I can dredge up...

NINJA TURTLES!!! (from 1991, apparently)

From 2002 - my first comic, New Edge - ok, it wasn't really my first comic, just the first one that a) was actually original, and b) I actually sorta finished.

From there on out I FINALLY decided I should actually learn to draw people. As you can see, my first attempts were...uh. D:

From 2004 - a filler page from my old webcomic These Days, where Mark E. Smith from the Fall shoves Elvis Costello down a flight of stairs. I swear it made sense at the time.

From 2007 - a page from Printheads, my lame supernatural adventure comic. I include this one here cuz I find it hilarious how much I tried to cram on to this page.
