What do you do while you work? Do you listen to music or put on a show or a movie?

I usually have some movie score playing in the background while I put together the comic. My girlfriend has Law and Order: SVU on while she works, which I would find distracting. I can't listen to anything that has words or I feel compelled to pay attention to that instead.

Lots of podcasts, lots of radio, maybe some Netflix. It really depends on what kind of mood I'm in. If I'm really committed to working, I'll listen to podcasts or radio, something with no visual so I won't be distracted. If I'm being a little lazy, I'll play Frasier, or King of the Hill, or South Park, or some kind of documentary off of Netflix. I go through phases in what I listen to. I rarely listen to music while I'm working, though I should try to. I think it would help me focus.

Most of the stuff I listen to is Marc Maron's WTF podcast, Bill Burr's or Joe Rogan's podcasts, or Opie and Anthony stuff. Lots of comedy nerd stuff.

Nothing gets my creativity running like sonic music (pun not intended)
specifically Crush 40, some arctic monkeys, red hot and foo fighters are my main fuel

Nothing.

No seriously, I can't listen to music and work at the same time anymore. As Disney animator Milt Kahl puts it, I'm not smart enough to do both at the same time. When I listen to music, I really get into it. I get extremely vivid visions and then I start bobbing my head to the beat and I hum or sing along. I can't concentrate on two mentally/physically draining things at the same time.

There are only two cases where I'll listen to music while doing something art-related. It's either for 1) to get inspiration for a piece or 2) something really mind-numbing or uncreative, like coloring linework or compositing panels together.

When I do put on music and draw at the same time, my work is always of lesser quality.

Sports radio and lots of uplifting rock and roll during the day, and lots of trance and dance at night.

That is, of course, when I'm allowed to.

Lately I've been listening to a~Ha, Dimmu Borgir, Pavarotti, Waka Flocka.

Sometimes simultaneously.

My go-to peoples for music are John Cage and William Hung. Those two make me enjoy doing what I do. For now. I'm going to have to change my working habits in a month or two.

I almost don't want to admit it, but yeah, I like a lot of Sonic music and it gets my creative juices flowing. Sonic Generations had an amazing soundtrack.

...but I would never admit outside of the internet that I have City Escape on my iPod.

I try to think of a Song I haven't heard in a while, type the title into Pandora and let it roll. Most of my pages take 4+ hours ( believe it or not, haha), So by the end I've listened to all sorts of muzack~

Sigur Ros or Jonsi, I love them and they are mellow enough that they work as background music. But, if I really have to concentrate on a piece I need it quiet, because my whole body just rebels against having to process so many things at once.

Sometimes if I am doing something that requires less productive creativity, like inking, I might listen to some just normal rock music.

Wait, this is about music I draw to? If so, my good sir:

(Trance/Dance)

(Various Classical)

(OST's/Film Scores)

(New Age/Trance/Electronic)

Eek? I'll add more later.

I had it at one point but I kind of whittled it down to about 15 songs because I was running out of space on my computer/iPod.

And yeah, I don't mean to judge. I love music like that, but I just feel kind of silly listening to that semi-rebellious stuff some times. It makes me feel like if people knew I listened to it, they'd think I'm an angsty teenager who wants to rebel. And I really just appreciate the energy and force behind music like that. I love stuff like punk music and ska though. Absolutely love it.

I just throw on random classical music. I like to work in a relaxed environment.

Podcasts are good for when you're drawing a big project or just sketchin' or whatever. But I find when I'm trying to write something, hearing people talking is too distracting. I'm thinking more about what they're saying vs. what I want to be said.

For that, I'll just listen to whatever music I'm in the mood for. Video game chiptunes, hard-rock, classical, anime theme songs, movie soundtracks, etc. Whatever fits the mood I'm aiming for.

Depends on what my work PC bandwidth is that day - if I have enough I'll listen to podcasts (usually Thinking Atheist).

Often though, I turn to music from my EVO. I have a couple of Gigs worth of nerdcore: MC Frontalot, Adam Warrock, Dual Core, Greydon Square, MC Lars, Optimus Rhyme, The Bossfights...or other nerdly music like Jonathan Coulton, Kirby Krackle, No More Kings

More often than not, metal. My art has a high energy to it, so I can't be in a chill mood when drawing (if that makes sense).

Just a small list:

Dethklok
Amon Amarth
Psyclon Nine
Disarmonia Mundi
Deathstars
Mindless Self Indulgence
Neurotech
Rob Zombie
SOiL
Raunchy
SybreeD
Dagoba
BLOOD STAIN CHILD

Also keep in mind a few of those are techno, techno-influenced. Mostly because I love techno and that also keeps me going. This morning I'm listening to Lamb of God though.

It depends. Like most others, I work best when listening to instrumental music (usually something electronic). But it usually depends on what I'm drawing or what I feel in the mood to listen to that day. A lot of times I'll switch on the community radio station, which is fantastic about 80% of the time and mind-numbingly awful the other 20% (this compared to regular pop radio stations which are just plain awful 99% of the time).

Sometimes I'll switch on the TV, but the combination of background noise and visuals is usually too distracting for me.

(Also, oldschool Sonic music rules, especially the Sonic CD OST - BOTH versions, not just the Japanese one!)
