"Character Crossover Art Trades ", 22nd May 2012, 8:02 AM #1
Alright, so me and Fishy were talking and we wanted to figure out a way to have functional crossover between our comics, and others hopefully. After tossing ideas back and forth between each other, and ultimately coming to the conclusion that most long-term projects would probably be REALLY hard to manage and might not even come to fruition, we decided that a quick art trade of a one-shot comic or a picture of characters interacting between each other would be the best way to go about it and not end up disappointed and come out empty-handed. Everyone's busy with their own comics already, whether writing or drawing, and real life takes up enough time as it is, so we wanted to keep this simple, yet fun.
SO, we're going to treat this thread as a sort of game, where people lay out a certain number of characters to choose from (Sort of an "application", if you will) and then those familiar with the applicant's comic or interested in drawing their characters can take them up on their offer and share their own application, with a set number of characters, their designs, and a quick run down of their personalities or how they would react in a certain situation. The reason we decided to put more than one character on an application is to give other people choices. One character may not always be accessible or work well with another person's character, so this way, we give everyone choices. It's just that... well, Fishy and I ended up using all of the character we set out to use. But it doesn't have to work that way!

This was my application. I just snipped out a few pictures from my comics and then threw some color on them as a simple and quick guide to who I wanted to use.

And this was Fishy's. Again, very simple and quick yet it gets the point across.
Then, we agreed on a scenario, in which these characters would be interacting, to kind of tie it all together and make things flow a lot more naturally. Fishy and I chose a barbeque, and while it ended up a lot more light-hearted on both of our parts, it doesn't necessarily be silly. It takes a bit of brain power and creative influence to figure out how certain characters would mesh with others, and it's really pretty fun. It doesn't have to be elaborate either, it was really pretty easy to write and flesh out once we got started.
And then we got to work! Fishy finished first, and this was her's.

And then, days later, I got mine done, finally.

Very fun, very light-hearted, and no real pressure. It didn't have to be serious with a lot of time and dedication pumped into it. This is meant to be a game, so don't get frustrated. And it doesn't HAVE to be a comic, if you prefer to do single images. It's just what we chose to do. Have fun with it! So get to posting your applications and let's see if we can get this ball rolling!
tl;dr version
1. Make a visual application of characters, with pictures and personality types, or how they react in certain situations.
2. Find a partner to work with
3. Work out a situation with your partner in which you would like to see your characters interact.
4. Get to drawing!
