I was thinking it'd be cool to have the list of webcomics you subscribe to appear in your public profile so people can see your intrests.

Not a high priority change and maybe should have a allow/don't allow option but it'd give more use to subscribing and I'm curious to see which comics friends are intrested in.

If that ever happened, allow/don't allow would be a must. My subs list is well over 100 (I think it has probably passed 200 by now), and lots of people probably don't want others to know what comics they follow.

I don't really care to show who I am following on my profile. If this becomes a thing, it should be an option rather than mandated to everyone.

Yeah, I am kind of iffy on this as well. I would want it to be an option.

I can already see who has subbed to my comic and people that I have subscribed to can look in their statistics to know that I subbed, but I don't know if I want to rest of the world to know which I follow or don't.

Oh no! Now everyone will see all the yaoi comics I secretly read--I mean, the manly man comics about men that I read.

yes.

Idk I think this would clog up the profiles. I don't mind if it exists, but it would be better if it was optional. I personally wouldn't want to display every single comic I have subscribed to here on CF.

This except with limits.

Say five to ten subs displayed.

And even moreso, would be easier if compressed information, such as instead of like the my webcomic list that is shown, just the avatars of the comics.

But the only problem with this is it would require a system in which users could choose which recommendations to display OR it would maybe display them at random OR it would maybe do it in latest update.

This I believe wouldn't be easy to program as it sounds, just saying guys.

ALSO: It probably could be done to not clog up the profile too much, perhaps displayed to the spot underneath the personal information, or maybe another table below the owner's webcomics.

There was a thread about this a while back (I can't find it) and the general concensus was no I THINK.

Points raised, if I recall correctly, included that subscriptions on CF are chiefly for the purpose of making following comics easy, not popularity (this was around the time Kyo was talking about ditching the ATP tab); people might not want their subscriptions public (an optional thing would fix that though); there are loads and loads of subscriptions that lots of people have, even if you trim it how many do we show and which ones?; and something about comics not being a popularity contest or something.

I don't think that it would be an issue to program, also. I'm going to see if I can find that thread...

e: There is also the possibility I am mixing up some threads, so if I am just take the points listed above as my own :P

How about a numeric setting for the number of subscriptions listed that defaults to ZERO?

Alternatively how about a tick box on subscribing (default is unticked) which OKs it to be shown on your profile?

Uhh, if you wanted to share stuff like this couldn't you just edit your "About Me" on your profile? Ya know, add in a section call "webcomics I follow" and put up links of whatever web comics you want up there.

I am surprised no one else in this thread suggested this so far.

I'm not sure why you'd need the zero-default, but I think the simple numeric count is a good idea. It can be listed in your forum posts like the post and referral numbers, though maybe a redesign would be in order as to not clutter with so much info (Posts/Referrals/Subs on one line, with the values centered under them). Or, yeah, just left on the profile page.

I am trying to find this thread too. No success.

Anyway, what I said last time this was suggested was that I am against it because it encourages judging people by their taste. Look at their subscriptions, say "what, they read that shitty comic?", stuff like that.

I think it kinda encourages cliquey behaviour. Not to mention that not everyone wants everyone to know what they read. If it was a feature, the default would definitely have to be off. And how often does anyone really change their account settings?

It also encourages being careful with what you subscribe to, because others might find out. When my brother comes in the room, I might change the channel so he doesn't see me watching spongebob. If there's a public list of shows I watch, I might just stop watching it altogether. It's kind of an intrusive feature I think.

So IMO this would do more bad than good. Indeed I am aware that most other hosts have this feature, but I very consciously didn't add it in.

I found this thread too, but in that thread I just say "yeah sure" which is really weird, because I don't remember to agreeing to add this at all. I don't know why I would.

DD had it so you could recommend comics from your favorites list in your profile. I found some really good comics that way too. Looking through people's profiles that have similar taste.

This place worries way too much about cliquey behavior. There's already that here anyway :P That's not really bad. It's natural for it to happen within the forum and within the comics themselves.

Really, you don't think people would be judged by their tastes? I mean sure, if you don't buy into the cliquey argument (of course it already exists too a degree, but the point is that it shouldn't be encouraged further)

I don't know, I just see so many problems. What if someone has homophobic friends using the site, and now has to unsubscribe from ToY because of fear of ridicule? Or just if someone likes one of the erotic comics. I would say disclosing the list of subscriptions without explicit permission is definitely an intrusion of privacy. And if it requires explicit permission, it becomes kind of pointless.

This isn't in any capacity an argument against a "recommend a comic" feature, of course. But I don't think disclosing subscriptions is a good idea, I think a lot of people wouldn't like/appreciate that.

maybe recommendation feature would be good alternative to this. But then again it also becomes pointless since people can BB code links on their profiles and such. :/

In general I don't think this is such an important thing that warrants a whole another option. And as Kyo said, people might not like involuntary disclosure of their subscriptions. My vote is just leave it be and don't change it.

I wasn't saying showing all the subscribed comics. Just displaying the ones that the user would recommend. Putting them on your own website or in a links sub page is more time consuming and takes up space on your comic if it's there.

If a person is worried that they will be judged on their taste they won't set that particular comic to recommended. Holding everyone's hand is silly. The Critique board is a similar example. If you don't wish to have your taste judged you shouldn't post your comic in that thread (or on the net in general really). If I WANT to be judged for my huge collection of furry guro yaio comics I read I will darn sure wish to set them in my profile for public view!!! >:-(

I would rather the reason behind it not being implemented is because "meh, it's not a huge feature and I could work on something else". Not protecting us from ourselves :P

well i didn't say I wouldn't implement some sort of recommendation system. You're just trying to apply my arguments to a completely different feature than the one that was proposed originally :P

As how I said, the arguments don't apply to a recommendation system. I might add it, the profiles are in dire need of a rehaul anyways. I'll definitely keep it in mind.
