MatthewJA:There was a thread about this a while back (I can't find it) and the general concensus was no I THINK.
Points raised, if I recall correctly, included that subscriptions on CF are chiefly for the purpose of making following comics easy, not popularity (this was around the time Kyo was talking about ditching the ATP tab); people might not want their subscriptions public (an optional thing would fix that though); there are loads and loads of subscriptions that lots of people have, even if you trim it how many do we show and which ones?; and something about comics not being a popularity contest or something.
I don't think that it would be an issue to program, also. I'm going to see if I can find that thread...
e: There is also the possibility I am mixing up some threads, so if I am just take the points listed above as my own :P
I am trying to find this thread too. No success.
Anyway, what I said last time this was suggested was that I am against it because it encourages judging people by their taste. Look at their subscriptions, say "what, they read that shitty comic?", stuff like that.
I think it kinda encourages cliquey behaviour. Not to mention that not everyone wants everyone to know what they read. If it was a feature, the default would definitely have to be off. And how often does anyone really change their account settings?
It also encourages being careful with what you subscribe to, because others might find out. When my brother comes in the room, I might change the channel so he doesn't see me watching spongebob. If there's a public list of shows I watch, I might just stop watching it altogether. It's kind of an intrusive feature I think.
So IMO this would do more bad than good. Indeed I am aware that most other hosts have this feature, but I very consciously didn't add it in.
