For those of you who are wondering what the heck happened to all your readers, something from Clint from Zombie Ranch. Those of you who 'attended' ConventionFury may remember him, and those of you who didn't can enjoy his wisdom for the first time :) Anyway, here are Clint's Thoughts about the "Summer Slump".

Don't worry, it'll get better again ;)

Really...? I started my comic in May, and my highest readership was July 4th...I must have depressing readers...It's going down a bit now, but I hope it goes up since I started on my advertisements.

August is worse, typically... When you were in May, you were just starting out, so it makes sense that you had lower numbers.

I know as a reader and someone who has a job with summer off...by the time August gets around I always have less desire to really do anything, that includes the websites (and webcomics) I visit. There are so many other things going on or I am just trying to relax and enjoy the break I have left. And it happens to me every year. Even if there is a forum I am really into I will often just disappear a bit during August.

When I was really into writing fanfiction people would often notice and complain about the Summer/August slump as well.

And here I was thinking it was because the last couple of weeks have been sporadic at best, comic-free at worst, for me.

That probably didn't help matters, but a summer slump probably explains why my recovery is pretty slow for the time being. I've noticed that traffic drops on a lot of blogs around the summer months, didn't even occur to me that webcomics would take the same hit.

Might be a good time to learn code from scratch and rebuild my site (a relearning process I do every three years or so).

Underappreciation has been my goal and I've not noticed a seasonal effect on it's achievemant.

Oh thank you Mags, I knew there must be a logical reason aside from the fact that my
comic sucks lately and I can now stop getting my affairs in order.
But this gives me an idea! Maybe we should just show re-runs in July and August like TV
does, or possibly recruit a novice comicer who will do a summer replacement in your time slot? I could get Unka John to do my summer replacement webcomic eh?

Hell, I'm just happy anybody is looking at it. Hard to really complain when my readership before Comic Fury was zero.

Hence why I used to take the summers off. This year is the first summer I have been updating.

So if a comic began in July...does that mean I can look forward to a slight bump in readership? Because that would be awesome!

There is the potential, yes. But really, unless you noticed a dip, you might not have tapped the readers yet in the first place. Getting the word out is pretty important, but you're probably going to have more success later on in the year :)

Well, my friends read my crap so it's not all bad. Maybe everyone is too busy sweating during summer to bother reading. o_O

Well, that explains the recent stats drop I had. 50% of me readers are probably doing better stuff, like going out, stealing cars and getting laid. Actually, I get two dips in the year, a big one and a smaller one, since about 30% of my readers are from the south hemisphere, and our summer is at the end of the year.

We get a dip around December as well, when the kids go for Christmas holidays... :) Basically the time that the majority of your readers are likely doing things with their families, you're probably going to notice a dip...

I just forgot about the phenomenon and was thinking that maybe I broke our automated advertising campaign on PW recently, so I thought I'd pass it along to others experiencing the same "WTF?" scenario :D

Interesting information, I had no idea that summer months/December tend to do poorly. Well, good to know, thanks!

Pageviews for Spun Off have been very healthy throughout the summer, thanks to a little bit of advertising. Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan, not so much, but as that comic is a rerun, I'm not too concerned.
