running accross some old CF1 files I never deleted (i never bothered cause they were automatically disabled with the update anyway) - that code was all so retardedly horrible. I really needed that rewrite. CF2k1 is really just finishing what I started but then rushed with CF2k because it took so long. This time I'm taking my time with everything, doing it properly. It'll be pretty nice. The CF2k code, is proper (though there's differences between late and early files. When you start a project and are not sure where you're taking it yet, you tend to try different things before you stick to methods that work best and keep using those consistently - Some files have some code that seems out of place - it's not bad style or anything, just different.)
There's a lot left to do - it's mostly layout stuff I'm doing now. The work is easy and doesn't require a lot of brain work, but it's a big pile. Changing all tables to div constructions (the same thing applies here, btw. The start took me the longest because I wasn't quite sure how to do what yet, but now I know what kind of elements to use where, and I'm barely modifying the .css at all anymore.) and adding continue/back links to all error/success messages.
I'm also amazed at how long I've procrastinated on some things - such as a BBCode editor for the forums or having a real layout in the comment leaving process, and not just a html table. (WTF?)
I have yet to design the final frontpage. Jeff and I have shared a lot of idea (tabs, I've mentioned in this thread, hot comics, etc.) but if anyone wants to say something, or even make a mockup of a new possible frontpage, I'm up for it. Go nuts.
After CF2k1 is done, I'll start doing what I did back in the day again, many little updates. Every other week or something. Life is an adventure.
