Kyo:note the little notification icon that tells you if a comic has updated since your last online time

On the topic of subscriptions, we need an alert that pops up without having to go to the Subscription page. Perhaps the Subscriptions link could boldify and change to say "Subscriptions (2)". (Assuming that there have been two updates...)

Layout? I practically wrote the book on layouts. It's all probably being move to a wiki somewhere though. Still don't want to deal with the code? I'll do it for you.

Yes, the gray surface is very nice.
And I like the what seems like a smaller bar on the top.
Less is more, as they say.

running accross some old CF1 files I never deleted (i never bothered cause they were automatically disabled with the update anyway) - that code was all so retardedly horrible. I really needed that rewrite. CF2k1 is really just finishing what I started but then rushed with CF2k because it took so long. This time I'm taking my time with everything, doing it properly. It'll be pretty nice. The CF2k code, is proper (though there's differences between late and early files. When you start a project and are not sure where you're taking it yet, you tend to try different things before you stick to methods that work best and keep using those consistently - Some files have some code that seems out of place - it's not bad style or anything, just different.)

There's a lot left to do - it's mostly layout stuff I'm doing now. The work is easy and doesn't require a lot of brain work, but it's a big pile. Changing all tables to div constructions (the same thing applies here, btw. The start took me the longest because I wasn't quite sure how to do what yet, but now I know what kind of elements to use where, and I'm barely modifying the .css at all anymore.) and adding continue/back links to all error/success messages.

I'm also amazed at how long I've procrastinated on some things - such as a BBCode editor for the forums or having a real layout in the comment leaving process, and not just a html table. (WTF?)

I have yet to design the final frontpage. Jeff and I have shared a lot of idea (tabs, I've mentioned in this thread, hot comics, etc.) but if anyone wants to say something, or even make a mockup of a new possible frontpage, I'm up for it. Go nuts.

After CF2k1 is done, I'll start doing what I did back in the day again, many little updates. Every other week or something. Life is an adventure.

<claps Kyo's shoulder>

Every bit of work you do is appreciated. It's not like it doesn't work as it is now, so don't rush.

Just as long as it get's the:

Seal of Approval.

(I sent Kyo that a while ago, but he didn't display it. So in order to satisfy my own vanity... there it is)

Well, an idea I've got is that all of the authors make a kyo approximation and we just load the front page with them, and in front of them all we pit the angry looking Frenchman thats on the top pointing like Uncle Sam saying "Are YOU ready to unleash artistic rage?"

I don't know, I wanna keep you guys updated.

What would you change? What would you like to see in the search function/organization of the results? Go nuts.

I'll definitely add some buttons for popular searches. What kind of searches are popular? What do you like to search most?

Looks spiffy. Does the search include comic descriptions, artists, and such?

it's the same as before. Including artists would be kind of silly. It includes description, as does the current one.

I like to think that my discussions with Kyo lead to greater developments for us both, not just in terms of the website, but also in terms of our own progress on the long road to enlightenment.

Like I say, I like to think that. I rather more expect that I'm just a vague annoyance, and that I'm going to accidentally annoy Kyo for real some day, and proceed to get booted off the website. I'm usually just trying to help, though. Really.

I don't boot people. That's not my style. People that annoy me are people who intentionally do something wrong, rather than accidentally. People who acknowledge they have terrible comics and think the fact that they acknowledge it makes it ok. If you yourself don't like them, don't put them up. People who think it's funny or clever to do something that disturbs the harmony of the site.

Luckily, I haven't really had much of these people on ComicFury.
