Shaman:Whiskey T. Foxtrot:I really don't like the way the FF series has developed since the PSX era. The NES games were mostly forgettable but on the SNES there were two real classics and... FFV. Which did have an interesting class system. And for the PSX they made FFVII, FFT and FFIX which were all brilliant games while FFVIII tried too hard to be better than its predecessor, although it did have plenty of good sides to it. Certainly enough to get me hooked to the genre (yeah, FF8 was my first).
Then came FFX which was... how should I put it nicely... garbage. Terrible characters, terrible story, terrible dialogue, terrible voice acting and a terrible setting for most part. It was followed by FFX-2 which was simply an insult towards the players and then there was also Dissidia and Crisis Core which made me feel like a total idiot for buying them. After all that trash, FFXII actually felt like a pretty good game, even despite the presence of Vaan. The gameplay wasn't too bad, there were some interesting characters and world of the game was pretty fun to explore.
I agree, for some weird ass reason, when the PS2 hit stores, it's as if Square decided to scrap all the cool past blueprints they had EXCEPT for FF8's. So they just freakin' lost me. The only new FF release i'll ever buy is a complete remake of FF7. It would be awesome if they make it look like Advent Children, graphic wise :))
I'll be the first to admit that post-PSX I
did enjoy the hell out of Final Fantasy XI. If I get enough of a budget backed up I will certainly be rejoining that community. <3
But FFX...yeah, garbage. I only found two things about that game I enjoyed. Firstly, I enjoyed Lulu as a character. I don't know why, but for some reason she actually struck me as interesting and it was a complete let-down that Square made sure there was no way and no how to make her the love interest.
For God's sakes, Squenix...practically every other game in existence now lets you choose that shit. So far the only Final Fantasy game that has given you that kind of option has been Final Fantasy VII, and only for one brief scene.
The fact she wasn't playable (and had such a minor role) in FFX-2 is what killed that game the hardest for me.
Secondly...I'll be the first to admit
I LOVE BLITZBALL!
Once I was able to start recruiting, I took like a week off from actually playing the game and just Blitzed. My best score is 11-0, which I was just barely able to make within the time limits.
And for FFVII...yes, Shaman, I agree...if they could give us the game remade with those graphics, it would be awesome. But they've said pretty much if they update graphics things will be lost, like some towns or dungeons or other locations.
I don't want that. Their reasoning? It would cost an extremely large amount of money compared to what they could reasonably expect to make back. Fair enough, can't fault them on that, I suppose.
I'd be happy with even Final Fantasy X-ish graphics if we just got all the same locations, the same story, and a better translation. I'd be happy with its current graphics if we even got so much as a few extra items and a good extra dungeon and bonus boss or two.
Let's face it...the WEAPON monsters are no longer cutting it as bonuses. They were there on arrival in North America, and Japan got them soon after.
But its high time Square revisited the game. EVERY previous Final Fantasy has already been re-released, remade, enhanced, upgraded...FFVII is getting zilch for love here.
I would do with just an enhanced port. I'd buy it. Same graphics? I'll deal. Just give me some bonuses. Dungeons, bosses, weapons, items, something new entirely to keep me guessing at things. And for God's sake, clean up that translation! Could've at least done that much for the PSN port...
