I really don't like the way the FF series has developed since the PSX era. The NES games were mostly forgettable but on the SNES there were two real classics and... FFV. Which did have an interesting class system. And for the PSX they made FFVII, FFT and FFIX which were all brilliant games while FFVIII tried too hard to be better than its predecessor, although it did have plenty of good sides to it. Certainly enough to get me hooked to the genre (yeah, FF8 was my first).

Then came FFX which was... how should I put it nicely... garbage. Terrible characters, terrible story, terrible dialogue, terrible voice acting and a terrible setting for most part. It was followed by FFX-2 which was simply an insult towards the players and then there was also Dissidia and Crisis Core which made me feel like a total idiot for buying them. After all that trash, FFXII actually felt like a pretty good game, even despite the presence of Vaan. The gameplay wasn't too bad, there were some interesting characters and world of the game was pretty fun to explore.

I haven't played FFXIII but if I some day find a really cheap PS3 with a really cheap copy of that game, I'll give it a go.

I agree, for some weird ass reason, when the PS2 hit stores, it's as if Square decided to scrap all the cool past blueprints they had EXCEPT for FF8's. So they just freakin' lost me. The only new FF release i'll ever buy is a complete remake of FF7. It would be awesome if they make it look like Advent Children, graphic wise :))

I'll be the first to admit that post-PSX I did enjoy the hell out of Final Fantasy XI. If I get enough of a budget backed up I will certainly be rejoining that community. <3

But FFX...yeah, garbage. I only found two things about that game I enjoyed. Firstly, I enjoyed Lulu as a character. I don't know why, but for some reason she actually struck me as interesting and it was a complete let-down that Square made sure there was no way and no how to make her the love interest.

For God's sakes, Squenix...practically every other game in existence now lets you choose that shit. So far the only Final Fantasy game that has given you that kind of option has been Final Fantasy VII, and only for one brief scene.

The fact she wasn't playable (and had such a minor role) in FFX-2 is what killed that game the hardest for me.

Secondly...I'll be the first to admit I LOVE BLITZBALL!

Once I was able to start recruiting, I took like a week off from actually playing the game and just Blitzed. My best score is 11-0, which I was just barely able to make within the time limits.

And for FFVII...yes, Shaman, I agree...if they could give us the game remade with those graphics, it would be awesome. But they've said pretty much if they update graphics things will be lost, like some towns or dungeons or other locations.

I don't want that. Their reasoning? It would cost an extremely large amount of money compared to what they could reasonably expect to make back. Fair enough, can't fault them on that, I suppose.

I'd be happy with even Final Fantasy X-ish graphics if we just got all the same locations, the same story, and a better translation. I'd be happy with its current graphics if we even got so much as a few extra items and a good extra dungeon and bonus boss or two.

Let's face it...the WEAPON monsters are no longer cutting it as bonuses. They were there on arrival in North America, and Japan got them soon after.

But its high time Square revisited the game. EVERY previous Final Fantasy has already been re-released, remade, enhanced, upgraded...FFVII is getting zilch for love here.

I would do with just an enhanced port. I'd buy it. Same graphics? I'll deal. Just give me some bonuses. Dungeons, bosses, weapons, items, something new entirely to keep me guessing at things. And for God's sake, clean up that translation! Could've at least done that much for the PSN port...

IMHO, that's complete and utter bullshit reasonning. They are already paying the same price it would cost them to remake FF7 every single time they brainfart yet another addition to their franchise. They are already losing plenty of sales from fans of FF7 that can't stomach their new additions and would actually pay through the nose for a remake of FF7 even if it did cost 20$ more than their average price. And on top of all that, they'd cut a full third of their production costs since they already have the blueprint for it and wouldn't have to re-invent the wheel. All they would need to do is work on a better looking tire for their rim. They just don't WANT to do it, but they most certainly could and it wouldn't cost them a penny more than FFXXXVVVIIILLLWHATEVERNUMBERTHEYCOMEUPWITH!!! And if they don't believe it could sell, all they would need to do is make a widely advertised online poll to find out if people would be willing to buy it, regardless of the price. The result would be an astronomical win, for us AND them.

They'd probably realize this if they'd read any of the emails I sent them. But that is the reasoning they've given.

For what its worth, it has been said by some of the FFVII team that they would like to do a remake. All I can do is hope and pray at this point.

They need fresh new management at Squenix. Whoever's running the joint is running it into the ground.

I've felt like its been a steady downhiller since the merger to begin with, not that they weren't showing signs beforehand. Forcing the team behind Chrono Trigger to release their other masterpiece, Xenogears, in a rushed and incomplete state before finally driving the majority of them to resign was a horrible start to the snowball.

Sadly, they never quite recovered. Xenosaga I was tolerable, the sequels were crap, and it was all crap if you had the same hopes and expectations as I had for Xenogears future sequels/prequels.

They definitely need new management, badly, and they need to figure out that top-quality graphics may make for a decent movie, but not a game, and that whether game or movie, its a good story that drives it along.

FFVII, FFT, SaGa Frontier and Xenogears were the last games Square made that truly fought for Quality Excellence.

FFVIII...if you can make sense of the villain, or the romance subplot, or even half of it...you're probably guessing.

FFIX...anyone remember the strategy guide? Did anyone really like the skill system? And where did the end boss (That I solo'd by accident) come from?

SaGa Frontier II...alright, so you have a game series that lets you choose who you play as from a wide assortment of characters, and you play out their story, then go back and play through the others in interconnecting stories. So...toss that aside, play as one or both of only two rather linear stories, and...I'm lost already.

I'm losing as much faith in them as I am in Sony. It took way too long for Sony to make the PS3 viable for its pricetag and then they went and purposefully nerfed PS2 compatibility.

Stand-up performance, Sony. Yeah, game companies were making games for the PS2 still. Why? Because you set a bar way too high. The cost to make the games was too much. That's why your system lacked for good games to begin with.

It's....I'm...bleh...

...Done ranting for the moment.

I just bought a game called "Lone Survivor" a few days ago. I would recommend it heartily to any survival-horror/indie fans.

Basically, you play a guy trapped inside by a plague that turns people into... things. You have to scrounge up food, bullets, whatever, and try to look for other survivors, all while plagued by hallucinations and other weird things happening.

I thought the concept sounded cool, but the trailer really sold me:

I've been playing a loooot of The Old Republic lately. Loads of fun. That and I just bought Fez off of the XBLA Marketplace, and that's a pretty fun game too.

I haven't really followed recent Square Enix news, so I don't know about this downward spiral. I was quite content not knowing about it. Thank you very much.
(Joking over)
I just got all these Nintendo 64 games for ten dollars (people at my school are stupid):
Long list hidden to prevent walls of text.

So basically, I just bought someone's shovelware collection. I guess that makes me the stupid one.

away from zelda and rayman, they are pretty much garbage (although I really enjoyed Rampage and the star wars racer when I was little)

Ken Cohen:- Rampage: World Tour A gorilla, a dinosaur, and a pig-man on the label. I can't even pretend to guess what this is with a name and label art like this. A bad rhythm game? A bad sports game? A bad 3D platformer? A bad puzzle game?

This one isn't bad, actually. Rampage was a great series. Still, unarguably better in the arcades.

Ken Cohen:- Ridge Racer 64 Generic Racer 64. Yay.

I actually like the Ridge Racer games. This one might not be the best, but its not bad for what it is.

Ken Cohen:- WF No Mercy The label is metallic gray. The text is generic. I can't guess what this is.

While not the best, the N64's wrestling games weren't bad. You know, for wrestling games. Never got much into wrestling, but of the games I've played...I preferred the N64's offerings to the modern ones...

Ken Cohen:- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Yay, a great game that I already have.

Ah, the big Zelda game. I don't know whether I like it or hate it half the time. It has its highs, it has its lows. And Navi...like the game, I don't know whether I like her, or hate her. "Hey! Listen! Hey! Listen! Hey! Listen!" *Swat*

If you enjoy even one game, then its like you paid ten dollars for the good one, and got the crap for free. Keep it in perspective. :)

- Rayman 2: The Great Escape I've heard this is good. It also happens to be in the worst shape of any of the cartridges. The label is faded and stamped with "PROPERTY OF BLOCKBUSTER." Huzzah.
- Star Wars: Episode One Racer Nothing that has anything to do with Star Wars Episode One can be good.
- Glover What? Really, just... What?
- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Yay, a great game that I already have.

Rampage is a great series of games. Basically, you pick your character and you have to destroy the city before time or your health runs out.

I absolutely love Rayman 2. That was a good find.

Star Wars Episode One Racer is a really fun game. The only connection to Phantom Menace (A movie I love, BTW.) is the Tatooine race and Anakin's a racer in it.

Don't knock Glover until you've tried it. It's a really unique game and I think it deserves a sequel/remake at some point.

OoT is, in my opinion, overrated. I like Majora's Mask much better.
