Sai:> give blunt advice saying 'stop whining about how you suck and learn new things to improve' to a struggling artist on tumblr who made an artist confession about how much they suck and how they have no direction on where to go with their art
> struggling artist doesn't take my advice because my tumblr url is 'poobuttface'

fucking dickhead i gave you the answer

Wait, I don't follow this, probably because I am being stupid...but someone basically went (to paraphrase), "I am a random artist and can't draw and don't know how to get better" and you were like "well just get better, I won't give you any actual advice, and don't ask for advice"? Because that is what is sounds like and it seems like why did you bother to say that if you weren't going to give an actual suggestion?

let's break down what i said

"stop whining about how you suck" because i really don't like whining. whining also brings yourself down. instead of whining, people should find a remedy.

"learn new things to improve" means to actually go look up resources. i mean google is at anyone's fingertips, so i don't see how hard it is to do even just that. world's your fucking oyster with the internet. and there are bookstores and libraries if someone doesn't have internet for a resource. i used to sit in barnes and nobles for hours just looking at drawing tutorial books because i couldn't deal with dial-up internet.

in any case, i actually bothered to reinforce my blunt remark with pretty much what i said above. but pretty much, i get irked by people who whine about things they can fix, especially if it can be remedied by a little learning and study and a bit of effort.

Okay, here's the thing: I have a special tone of voice for when I'm being sarcastic of just being a smartass. It is very distinct. The pitch raises slightly, and the inflection changes dramatically from my normal speaking patterns. In other words, it is distinct enough that if you are able to hear the words which I speak, you can hear the nuances in my voice.
As such, people -know- I'm joking.
So why is it that, in some cases, people take my sarcastic remark and pretend as though I am dead serious and a terrible person?
Additionally, I find it odd that nobody can take even the tamest, mildest joke anymore (But they SURE CAN dish them out!) and yet, when I get irritated at this fact, I'm the one who needs to 'chill out an' lighten up.'
Are you serious? I will kick you in the soul. 'Lighten up?'
I'll lighten up when people stop provoking me over the most mundane, stupid crap.

Sometimes Sarcasm doesn't travel well. Like with jokes you don't tell around certain friends to avoid being insensitive, sometimes you need to provide a large hint.

Then again some people just ARE being a jerk and can't take a joke.

Or see the point of certain conversations is to entertain.

What I do is try to turn that blunder into another kind of joke. A form of jesting jujitsu. We can spoil the moment by figuring it out later.

Actually, I think I have the solution.
See, generally, I go around with an upbeat disposition, a joke on my lips, and a bounce in my step. I make observations about the world, and then point out why they are amusing.
When I do so, I automatically assume that the people around me are not stupid. Not only is it polite, but it's also a safe stance, as most people aren't actually stupid.
However, when it comes to humor, my assumption that the people around me are thoughtful, intelligent, and rational seems to be the catalyst of all of these problems.
So, based on this observation, I have concluded that the best solution is to assume that people are stupid and treat them as such, making sure to never say anything that isn't a solid, direct fact.
Only problem is, I don't see why I should have to dumb down my own thoughts just because some asshole wants to act dumb even though he's not.
As a matter of fact, I don't see why -anyone- should have to dumb down their thoughts just because folks within earshot don't feel like contemplating what was said.

In all seriousness, though, I'm starting to realize that I always have and always will need to deal with stupid crap like this. It's what I get for looking at the world around me.

Some people might not pick up on it, even if you totally know that the tone of voice you are using is one that means you are joking. I have trouble picking up those tone changes, even when my family members are the ones joking, I (sometimes) do not even realize that they are. And to top it off I am a super sarcastic person myself, so I will dish out a joke, but not always realize when someone else is. Though I usually just try to correct them, not get upset.

Though people often need to just chill out about things in general (I don't mean that to you, this is the venting thread, vent away). But people that get offended by the slightest offense just need to learn to sit back and let things go even if it bothers them a bit.

Only losers change their tone of voice when they are being sarcastic. The pros raise their pinky in the air above their head and jump on one foot.

Birthday has been pretty crappy. I had to work today and tomorrow, so mom and i exchanged gifts early. I got a ring and a cheap electric shaver for my cat's butt hairs. I know it's not nice to be sour about gifts but...those were terrible. I've been dropping hints on what I might want for months now (haircut, pokemon, tiffany bracelet, watch, kinect, halfsies on an a exercise bike, clothes, etc) and i don't understand why she picked those. I lied about being too tired to go to dinner since the day was already going shitty enough, that was just kind of the icing. (not that i'd tell her)

Also mom destroyed one of my new shirts in the washing machine and it got super stretched out, just bought it last week...-_- Damnit i'm going on a shopping spree tomorrow or something

Oh man, my step mom always gets me the weirdest stuff for my birthday/Christmas. I'm pretty sure she just wraps stuff up that she's bought on sale and stored in her closet for years. She put a bright pink nail trimming kit in a Christmas bag one year and then for my birthday, in 2009, she gave me an animatronic pig with a graduation hat, that says "Class of 08" on it, almost exactly a year after my graduation. She told me that the pig would be "hilarious" on my 10 year high school anniversary.

Sucks, man. I had a pretty shitty birthday last month. I'll just boil it down to I really regret introducing my girlfriend to my fucked up parents. /sobs But yeah, I've been through that, too. I'll just be like "Mom, give me food or money if you want to give me a present." and she buys all of these useless things that I don't need. Irks me a shitton. Anyway, have a slightly better birthday, man!

Anyway, venting time FUJKKCKCKJFKKFK TABlET WHY DId YOU DIE ON MeEE. I mean luckily my old tablet from like 2008 still works, but fuck I really liked the Intuos, fuck. I seriously have the worst luck with tablets I've been through like five of them now fuck.

Wow, makes me appreciate my family for gifts. We go, I want DVD A, B, C, and D, books E, F, G, and H,...that sort of thing, and people just pick things from the list. Yeah, hardly ever anything surprising, but you always get what you want.

I don't want to be here anymore. I love my family, but i can't stand it here. I want to be far far away, where it's much easier to pretend that certain things never happened.

ditto...we'll start being productive when we feel like it, right? :D well, that's how it works for me...but because my mom was recently fired from her work, she has been complaining about how useless she feels, and how useless I am for being on vacation and not having a job. I'm sorry mom, I really don't want to work...I have just 1 year left of college, and then I'll have to work my butt off forever. I want to enjoy this. I don't even ask you for money, I don't go out, I stay home and do your bed and mine, sometimes wash the dishes or cook.

But of course my sister and brother can't be told the same, since my sis was studying and working at the same time (she just recently quit), and my bro is the youngest so he's the pampered little prince of the house... and it all sums up to me, the eldest...and my fucking expensive college.

When I graduate and work (I'm confident I will), I'll pamper you, I promise mom. I promise. But please, please...just let me be for now...

EDIT: and for the past 6 summers, during my vacations, I have always found a summer job. So this is my real first summer vacation. and probably my last...

I'm so sick of hearing "We Are Young" everywhere. Which is kind of sad because I was in love with Fun. and The Format before this song came out and Glee making everything silly. I still absolutely adore their "Aim and Ignite" album, but I am so tired of hearing, "WE ARE YOOOOOUNG, SO WE SET THE WORLD OF FIIIIIREEEE, WE CAN BURN BRIIIIIGHTER, THAN THE SUUUUUUUUUUUN" every-fucking-where. The Fun. guys are so talented too, I hate that they're being overplayed to the max, and THAT SONG in particular. Fuck you, Glee. Fuck yooooou.

(I'll remove my thick-rimmed glasses and plaid scarf now.)

My grandfather, that I mention on here a while back, passed away this morning in his sleep. He went home with my mom after the nursing home abuse incident, and he seemed pretty good, but then it all just deteriorated.
Idk if this belongs here or not, but I mentioned him on here before, and this feels like a punch to the stomach.
