Jacques:How bout Conan 2?

I mean if Conan was bad, Conan 2, it's PG sequel? :D

Conan: The Destroyer has always been one of my guilty pleasures since i first saw it as a kid. THEN i saw the first one and because i was so fond of the cheesy goodness in the sequel, i couldn't appreciate the Barbarian no matter how hard i tried. Only when i grew up and became a huge fan of James Earl Jones (i'm not kidding here, Best of the Best, Meteorman and Judge Dredd are some of my all time favorites because of him) did i then really enjoy the first film. But looking at it today, i have to say that i now prefer Masters of the Universe way more than The Destroyer :)

Genejoke:highlander 2 is the worst sequel ever.

I guess that all depends on just how much we cherish the first film prior to seeing the sequel. Since Brandon's Crow is my all time absolute favorite film, it automatically made it's sequels the all time worst on my list. :P

The crow is one of my all time favourites too, I didn't mind the first two sequels. They are pretty poor but they try and stay true to the original.

The best sequel ever to Highlander, was this film:

If only this was the live-action sequel, the franchise would not be such a mess.

For me, i just couldn't bear watching what society had become in City of Angels. It just completely disconnected me. It was like watching Van Damme's "Cyborg" and wondering why i wasn't baked out of my skull prior to pressing "play". The third Crow film just wasn't flashy enough for me, it reaked of a low budget. I'm not even gonna talk about the fourth for fear of spontaneous combustion. And as for the show, i've been a huge Marc Dacascos fan ever since "Only The Strong" came out and i thoroughly hated the show. IMO, you can stick to the source and still make a turdfest just as much as it IS possible to "improve" on the source successfully. Then again, the only highlander film i saw was the third one, which i believe i also compared to Van Damme's "Cyborg" LOL :P I did very much love the show though!

Yes the Highlander show was pretty awesome, especially since Adrian Paul knew what he was doing swords-wise and MA-wise. 2 problems with the show:

1. The writers kinda suck. The shows became somewhat samey after a while. Seriously, so much plot potential were possible but nothing was ever explored, or very rarely explored. I've read plenty of HL fanfics with better stories than the TV show.

An analogy would be a Superman TV show where the only challenges Superman ever faces were bank robbers armed with guns.

2. Aside from Adrian Paul and the swords choreographer, no other actors knew how to use a sword. I think throughout the entire 5-years-run(?) of HL, I never felt Adrian Paul in danger ONCE from a straight duel. I think the closest was when Pestilence messed up his hair a little in a fight.
==================================

I liked Van Damme's Cyborg. Because of this guy:
image

He totally salvaged that movie. Mom liked him (she also liked Solid Snake).
He should totally team up with
image
and the 2 of them should just surf around the universe kicking the asses of white bread action heroes with their awesome dreads.

Saw No Hard Feelings (Sans rancune!) on SBS the other night. Vaguely resembles The Dead Poet's Society, but comes from Belgium and has subtitles.

Oh, and I forgot to post last week about Goya en Budeos. Spanish with subtitles, I watched this half sick with flu, falling intermittently asleep. Perhaps the best way to see this film, full of tableauxs of his work in visionary dream form.

Mostly about how Goya ended his life in exile in Bordeaux, but the visions, the visions! It really get this. When my epilepsy was active between ages 8-21 I had all sorts of visions. None as horrific as his, but then I didn't have the Napoleonic ways going on around me.

They weren't visions. Flashbacks from Post Traumatic Stress. All those things actually happened and he witnessed them. The Peninsular Campaign in Spain was a horrid, bloody insurgency like a 19th Century Vietnam but with a lot more vengeance killings and wanton butchery by the Spanish Guerrillas (the war where the word was coined) and French soldiers.

---

And now for something completely different...

I saw Nanny McPhee. What a delightful and charming bit of fluff.

Sink the Bismarck one of those classic straight shooter war movies from the 1960s. Great model work and real "stringbags" (Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers) I've seen it countless times and enjoy it each time.

Watched Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame for the first time last night. I miss Tony Jay. :(

The night before, I watched the weird & wonderful Takashi Miike film Zebraman:

I've got to find an HDMI cable so's I can watch his Happiness of the Katakuris again (my DVD of that is Region 2).

Just got the Ghostbusters 2-Pack. Me and my fiance are both super excited! We're having a Ghostbusters mini-marathon while we eat our Stay-Puft caffeinated marshmallows.

Watched Godzilla: Final Wars the other night. Have to say I enjoyed it immensely, despite how long it took to get to some good ol' Godzilla fighting. The Matrix-y sequences were a bit of a shock for me after just coming back to the series after so long, but I actually kind've enjoyed them, and Godzilla did ultimately put on a hell of a show. Kudos to Toho for it. Also, I loved Captain Gordon.

Fu~ckin' awesome. <3

Also watched The Crow series not too long ago, since I see people posting about it. I'd seen most of them before, but I watched 'em again because...why the hell not?

Gotta say, the first is definitely the best. Hands down. But I also found I really enjoyed the third one. Yeah, it was low-budget-y, but it seemed like it did excellent for what budget it did have. City of Angels was horrible, its only saving grace was Thuy Trang, who I will always remember as the Yellow Power Ranger. R.I.P. Trang. :( The fourth film....I couldn't finish. By an hour in I was disgusted and stopped watching. Just a big mess.

...Maybe someday I'll get to watch the TV show.

I also watched Silent Hill. Again. For the tenth time. This is seriously how every video game movie should be done. True to the formula, with input and guidance from those that worked on the games. It's just awesome, and somewhat terrifying in many ways.

Then last night I watched Resident Evil: Degeneration. Most my comments about Silent Hill apply, although Resident Evil isn't so much terrifying as adrenaline pumping.

And Leon gets more than just the blood pumping. <3 Woo! Hot under the collar!

All in all, another great video game-based movie that practically could've been a game itself without much effort. I'm still waiting on Resident Evil: Damnation! Come on, Capcom, I've been waiting too long now! Damnation, or RE6, give me one or the other!

I needs my Leon fix.

And there better be hot Ada-lovin's this time around. And for God's sake, clear up the mystery of whatever happened to Sherry Birkin. That would be excellent for a movie.

Yeah, out of movies I've watched, so I'm going to go now before I start ranting about inconsequential shit. :)

Delightful is EXACTLY the word i'd use to describe it! I really thought i would've hated it but it turned out being an instant classic for me! What i'd love to know is how's the sequel? I've been trying to get the sequel on DVD for my mom's collection forever but i've never seen it on anything else than bluray. And of course my mom doesn't wanna go the next step because she JUST converted to DVDs like two years ago.

MLai:Cyborg was awesome because of that guy

image

This guy here will haunt my dreams forever. He's one of the reasons why i hated that movie. He makes me think of the villain in "The Crow: City of Angels" (which oddly enough, i thoroughly ADORED in that episode of Firefly he was in). It's been so long since i've seen it but the only thing i recall was weird ass neverending narrating, long instances without dialog and fucked up characters and plot. The acting wasn't all that either, if i recall correctly. I guess i'd have to rewatch it. Maybe i can find the bluray for cheap somewhere.

Edit: I just checked on Amazon and i can't believe i can actually get a blu ray of Black Eagle but MGM hasn't even put out a blu ray of Cyborg. What is this world coming to...

@ Godzilla Final Wars: It's been a while but I remember loving Godzilla messing up the American "Zilla" and the American commander was great!

The matrix stuff I thought was horrid. They spent way too much time with their non Godzilla story for his final movie!

I'll grant that the Matrix-y half of the movie could've been made into a movie on its own, but I still kinda liked it for what it was.

As for the American 'Zilla...I liked that, while they showed the classic Godzilla could kick his ass, they entered him pretty much into Godzilla canon. Kinda surprised me, really.

I saw an old mute film called 'Stashka' (Strike) on TV, made in the USSR in 1926. It was about exploited factory workers who went on strike to improve their working conditions. Unsurprisingly, the workers were all heroic and determined while the owners of the factory were wobbly fatasses smoking big cigars. Still, it was a very nicely made film and got actually pretty damn good towards the end.

Another film I saw was 'A Night to Remember' from 1958. It was about Titanic, and it was an outstanding film with an emphasis on realism and detail. I was basically glued to the screen until the credits roll and I was impressed by how good it looked even in today's standards. I highly recommend it for anyone.

Oh my... Why haven't I watched this movie sooner? After watching it once, it's already on my top ten favorite movies of all time.
