A Chinese Ghost Story
I was so happy i found this old film on Amazon last week, and on Blu Ray especially! This film was one of my all time favorite films back when i was a teen (it's in fact the very first asian film i had ever seen) and i really wanted to see how awesome it would look in HD. I used to watch it in french everytime it played on one of my province's channels but never saw it dubbed in any other language or even subbed for that matter. I remember how everytime i was in a video store, i'd look everywhere to try and find it. But alas, i never did find it until last week.
Oh boy did it bring back so many memories, all joyous, every single one. Unfortunately though, it was only subbed in english and wow... i guess someone that actually spoke english was too expensive to hire for the translation. But still, as hard as it was to follow (read), this film is truly a spectacle to behold. It very much has a smokey 80ies feel along with the sound technology they had back then, i just felt like i was leaning back into an old cherished blanket i found while rummaging through the attic. It's so hard to describe or even to compare to a single film. I'd say it's a mix between Ridley Scott's
Legend, Evil Dead and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
A must see for all 80ies and asian film enthusiasts! POYE POLOMI!!!
MLai:This is not a movie but, I just came back from the musical Wicked.
Loved. Every. Single. Second.
This coming from a guy who doesn't like musicals much, watched 3 in his entire life (including this one), don't like most songs in Disney movies, and was bored to death watching Sweeney Todd (though others who like musicals had the same reacton).
I'm a new convert for Broadway musicals. Well, some. I have to like the subject matter. Lion King's next on my list.
That's twice or thrice now that i've heard it was amazing, even for musical haters. Hmmm...
