Avengers. It was just awesome. I have never watched a movie that had the audience just cracking up and cheering so much. It was just a total fun action movie.

Avengers was such a fun movie. The audience was the same way at my theater too, ha.

I'd love to see The Avengers, but my dedication to artsy garbage prevents me from seeing it. I'm just not able to turn my brain off and enjoy a movie. I never have been. Bluh.

On the other hand, I just watched Gerry. That was... horrible. An hour and a half of two idiots walking through a dessert. Nothing else happens, just walking through a dessert. It's as if I filmed myself sitting at a drafting table for an hour and a half. That's not art, that's stupid.

Avengers

SPOILERS

Hulk seems to have pretty much stole the show. I prefer the new guy over Edward Norton (i forgot new guy's name.) But everyone in this movie was great.
Everyone

Hulk really was awesome in the movie. That did surprised me the most because his character never really interested me, but he was really written and used well in this movie.

Yeah, he really got the biggest laughs out of the film. Before this everyone pretty much said they don't plan on making another hulk movie anytime soon, but now they already have the guy sign a contract for five movies.

@ Ken:
But I've seen you complain about more than one "artsy" movie that turned out to be self-admitted garbage. Surely it's time to revise your viewing philosophy?

@ The Hulk:
In order to make him workable, i.e. intelligent enough to actually do something productive, the director basically changed The Hulk's "mechanism." Now, when the Hulk acts out and wreaks havoc, it's not the fault of the Hulk's monstrous instinct, it's the fault of David Banner's self-loathing. Basically the Big Green's temperament and EQ at the time of transformation depends on what the doctor's deeply feeling at the moment (in addition to anger).

That's actually a pretty good character adjustment. Beats having him be a one-theme character, or grey.
And yes, this is the best actor for the Hulk yet. At first I was miffed that the actor was changed yet again. But I tossed that out after watching this guy's first scene.
He's strangely intimidating in that, he certainly looks like a bookworm but you get the sense that he's a POSTAL bookworm.

@ Audience cracking up:
The guy I sat next to, laughed the loudest in the entire audience. It was f'ing annoying.

I'd definitely like to change viewing philosophy. Unfortunately, I can't. I was taught to believe that any movie made for pure entertainment was utterly worthless. As a result, I may loathe some of these artsy movies I've watched, such as Gerry, but I hate some movies that I'm well aware are great even more. To me, the absolute piece of fecal matter that is Gerry is more watchable than the masterpiece that is The Evil Dead 2. Why? Gerry is "deep" and "meaningful," while The Evil Dead 2 is nothing more than entertainment. I'm well aware that it's a great movie, but I just can't watch it without tons of remorse.

AVENGERS!

In fact I really needed to see a film like this because I was pretty down on the day after doing an artwork for someone else that I didn't want to do but couldn't say "No" to (long story). Loved it from start to finish.

"THEY DONE IT RIGHT"

I just read IO9's post on this film and pretty much agree with all they said. Can't wait to see the entry for this in TROPE WORLD because it pretty much did every trope in the Superhero book, and yayyyyy!

Mind you I do have a two part question, under the spoilers for those that want to think about this:

I thought the aliens design was spot-on Kirby inspired. And I watched and watched for Stan Lee and was really pleased when he finally turned up (as he so far has).

Prediction for the plot of AVENGERS 2 (based on the teaser at the end): Kree-Skrull War

So this has pretty much turned into a thread about how fucking awesome the avengers was. I must say I greatly agree!
As a HUGE Marvel fan and an action movie lover I enjoyed this movie a lot. I am going to see it again tomorrow!
I must say that the Amazing Spider-man and the new Batman movie have some tough competition to follow up.

I just watched Freddy Got Fingered because I heard that it's a neo-dadaist masterpiece. I can't determine whether or not this is "true" dada, but that isn't a masterpiece. In fact, it's the worst movie I've ever seen. It's just incoherent PENIS! joke after incoherent ANIMAL PENIS! joke. If I listed every problem with this movie, I would just end up typing out the script, so here's a Roger Ebert quote on it that sums it up:

"This movie doesn't scrape the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't below the bottom of the barrel. This movie doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels."

Yes, this is the worst movie ever made, I say without remorse. Epic Movie has met its match. 0/10. No matter who, what, where, when and why you are, you have better things to do than watch this movie.

Yeah I totally agree, that movie was a piece of crap. I saw that you like art films, how do you feel about independent films? Movies that aren't big blockbusters but are entertaining. Movies like the Canadian independent film The Wild Hunt. It's one of those movies that sound like it could be funny....but it really isn't a comedy at all.

Aha! Well that explains the technicality around that, though not the "EXCUSE" one would get in the story if it were in a comic! ;)

Well you seem to forget the fact that one of the Fantastic Four was there. FLAME ON Captain America, FLAME ON!

I LOVED The Wild Hunt. Thought it was fantastic. I was not at all expecting it to be as good as it was. I've heard it offends some LARPers, but then my generation had to deal with Mazes & Monsters, so we all have our crosses to bear. I really need to write up a review of that for my movie blog, because a lot of people who would really like it aren't aware of it.

If you actually WANT a RPG comedy, check out "Gamers: Lord of Dorkness", which cracked me up completely. The first ten minutes or so are agonizing and you'll wonder what the hell you've stumbled into, but if you know tabletop D&D, it is lethally funny once it gets going.

You're kidding right? I took those classes too and hung out with those people once upon a time(though 20 years ago)and I survived. But then I also had a professor who appreciated film as visual story telling and that being enough meaning for the medium without any other pretense. How well does the film tell its story and convey the story in every frame as opposed to being obsessed with some "deep" thing that is intrinsically worthless. Roger Corman and Sam Raimi are greater film makers than any art house artiste will ever be.

"Arthouse" films are so bad they claim them to be art to cover the fact they are unmarketable shite crapped out by pretentious wankers.

Yep, it's easy to generalize, that's not my actual opinion but many "arthouse" films give that impression, just as many blockbusters come across as shameless attempts to sell toys. Granted they often are, but it doesn't mean they can't be good films as well.

A good film is a good film is a good film. Fuck genre, budget, country of origin or any of that shit. Films are made to entertain after all.
