I'm not saying that, I'm saying they're giving you a shitty service and do not care about customer satisfaction thus there is no reason for them to make things anything above functional enough.

Survival is a pretty pressing reason, don't you think?

I was more than happy with the way it was for years, up until now, so I don't see the problem there at all!

Converting all files to .jpgs, resulting in a lot of compression, is pretty much the golden example of them not caring about customer satisfaction. It's an image host, so mandating the image clarity be subpar is pretty ridiculous.

Marlowe:
I just don't understand this mentality, the site is clearly owned by people who could absolutely give no less of a shit about their user base. They've been working on this site as a team for six months or so? There is no excuse for making the users beta test their halfassed version they were late in even getting up in the first place because they can't fix problems with their own site. So many people have left and are leaving anyway that it even begs the question of what community is even left at drunk duck that's worth staying around for.

I'm reading your answer and I understand what all the words mean but I just still can't understand why someone would choose the shittier service when time and time again the people in charge don't care if you think it's crap instead of just taking your business elsewhere.

But whatever, I can't stop you and I'm not going to lose sleep or anything over this, it just doesn't make one single ounce of logical, sound, reasonable sense.

For me, I have fans on the duck...
And I guess I am a little nervous about losing the ones I have while not gaining any on the new site.

Absolutely. And I doubt they'll be able to run a site that way for long. If they attempt to, they're going to lose tons of people, myself among them.

So the compression to my pages wasn't as bad as I thought, definitely not as bad as the example el cid posted, but still ridiculous and unnecessary considering my file size has always been small before.

On a surprising positive note I like the black border around my comics...

The exact issue here that Marlowe and myself are making is that you cannot expect them to revert all your files back, or magically realize the error they're making. They had flaunted the notion of file formats being changed months in advance, and even the admins brought up how dimwitted it was.

You're also severely underselling yourself by staying on DD. It's just as much of a service to your readers as it is to you to move to a site (and not just CF, at this point literally anywhere else) that is capable of displaying your work the way it was meant to be. Just sell the move as best you can. You'll lose some, but you'll gain a lot more if you're sensible about pacing your uploads and marketing yourself.

Has anyone been playing around with images that are wider than 960? I'm trying to work out if I was the only person it happened to, the way it was shrunk was that it was 1 pixel out in height, causing a weird distortion. Shrinking the original image by 1 pixel in photoshop without the proportion check on gets the same results so it is definitely what happened. I'm not talking about jpg artifacts, it actually distorts the lineart and makes the text go funky.

The disagreement the admins had (I brought this up as well) was that the .jpg to .png conversion would not save file size. They didn't believe us, because they're morons, but they learned the hard way and fixed it.

I don't expect them to "magically" fix anything. This issue has been brought to their attention, and not just by me. They will heed or they will not, and people will decide what to do based on what (if any) action they take.

That's all true, and if DD proves unsuitable in the end, I will have to leave. We're not there yet, but I appreciate your encouraging words.

My whole point here is they won't. People have been addressing issues well enough in advance, and they've not bothered to heed anybody on anything. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, I'm just being honest with you.

Also, would it hurt to just begin uploading all of your work at a set pace? Just see how it goes, if you're not getting the results you want, nothing is mandating that you follow through. There's really nothing to lose.

Neither of us knows the future, but I agree it's most likely that they will tank the thing. I've said I expect as much before here. And also, based on the fact that they had to remove the word "drunk" from the site's title to get advertisers, something tells me they're eventually going to implement tighter content restrictions there that will squeeze me out anyway. I don't disagree with you.

Eventually I probably am going to set up a real site here regardless; I just don't feel up to it right now. Web design is so repetitive!

Posts in Mediterranean Avenue don't count to you're post total. Ninja'd by AFStaff

Also On the note of why people stay. I think they're two reasons: one it's only been a day or so since the site went live, users aren't going to leave in droves just yet, so there is still a bit of a community there. Two, people who've built a fan base have to delete the archive, make a page saying "Comic's here!" and provide a link, the powers that be didn't add an option to delete a bunch of comics at once and it probably has at least two alert boxes asking "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS?" So, that means for someone who has 250 pages you have to click 750 times to delete the archive.

In short, some people are staying because they want to keep their reader-base.

e: Hey seventy2! When did you cross over?
