Mine actually went up a few, from 1110 to 1116, which is kinda weird considering I haven't updated that comic since 08.

faves as in you favourites list, mine has dropped by four since DD came back. i'm assuming the comics have been deleted as I can'f find one of them and I can't remember what the others were.

my favorites list is the same length it was, since i've seen an actual number for it. However, a lot of the comics on there are long dead, i.e. i favorited them to read through the archive, or i favorited them, because they favorited me, and they were about as reliable as myself.

Now there are a few people, that when i go to their comics, that are redirecting, and claiming to stop updating soon, or have already stopped updating, and just reload a page with a goodbye note everynow and then.

I'm so glad I went and downloaded/saved both my comics' archives from DD before it went and became TheD and shrunk all of my pages to 1/4 screen size. Thank you for pushing me to do it before that cataclysm hit, JustNoPoint.

Now I just have to check those downloaded archives and make sure they all saved correctly...

Former DDer here. I see absolutely no point of continuing my updates on DD, what with the page-shrinking. I'll leave what I have up there at TheD, but redirect everyone to here on my last pages.

I'll be a new CFist soon. Just wanna draw some backgrounds for my comics htmls. Make a pretty site, and all. Maybe start updating, too. LOL.

EDIT: Or am I supposed to call myself a CFian? So we can all be Comic Furians? But CFist looks cool when written in shorthand...

It was only a matter of time. I wonder how much the whole site being down for so long cost him?

I can't believe how quiet it is over there now O_O

I mean I know why and understand it. It's just kind of weird for me. The only activity in the forums are the few people still actually posting about problems. I guess the realization of what is really happening over there is finally kicking in for me. After everything that we went through with Platinum it's hard to believe that someone wanting to give the site some attention could actually be so detrimental. :(

It's a shame. I think Wowio have genuinely tried to do a good job and I do feel sorry for them.

Unfortunately, when a changeover that was supposed to happen over a four-day weekend takes more than two weeks and actually shuts the site down completely for most of that time, you have to be doubly sure that you maintain excellent communications with your users.

And that's where I feel it's all gone horribly wrong. It's not just that deadlines were repeatedly missed, it's that Wowio left everyone in the dark for far too long each time. I have no doubt the techy guys were all beavering away like crazy trying to fix everything, but the PR guys really dropped the ball. They should have been managing user expectations and ensuring a steady stream of info on a daily basis to keep everyone onside.

But DD has always bounced back in the past and I sincerely hope it does so this time, as well. I have very fond memories of the community there, and it would be a great shame if it were to disappear.

They will need to scrap that God-awful colour scheme, though!
;-)

I can't say for sure, but it seems like things weren't tested very thoroughly, what with all the system failures and glitches after the initial release.

It's not going to bounce back, because fundamentally a comics hosting site is popular because it has a good site with good code for use for both artists and readers, not because it has "a good community." The good community is the effect, not the cause, of having a good site.

I originally joined DD because it had no ads, I was free to post big pages, there's a system that encouraged comments, and things were easy to do.

Now TheD has ads spaces rivaling porn sites, and it shrunk all of my pages to something like 1/2 screen size. Why would I stay when there are other comics hosting sites? Given the above... why would reader stay, for that matter?

A big community, even if it just exists because of the past, is still definitely an advantage due to it meaning that there are more potential readers that you can reach without advertising the comic yourself. The problem with DD, IMO is
1) that it was just so much at once. One downtime, the next downtime, etc, when it's up there's gateway errors, no HTML, the colors, that pretty much eradicated a large part of the big community that used to be an advantage, and of course
2) Other webcomic hosts have big communities too. ComicFury isn't the biggest host but ultimately it evens itself out, since ComicFury does have an arguably big community but the fact that it's not as big as DD also means you stay on things like the front page and popular now longer, which gives you more exposure effectively evening it out.

DD was great back in 2004 , it always had technical problems , but it was fun and there was a strong community . that place is a ghost town now .
its like my favorite coffee shop just turned into starbucks ( thats sort of a dated analogy , do people even go to coffe shops anymore? )

i just changed my avatar on DD to this
image

thats how i feel

Speaking of ads, I thought there were plans at one point to have the kind of ads that DeviantArt has, every so many page loads and you get the big one page ad.

Well, not every feature has been implemented yet...

I wish they would have did as they said they would and left the old duck up for a bit so we could get some of the stuff we uploaded before it got shrank and/or jpeged to death.

I didn't keep backups of all my extra content like just random art and fan art :(
