There seems to a lot of bitterness about family reunions in this place...Just read Fool's vent about her family reunion haha

I think creative folk in general have a hard time relating with family, unless your family is ridiculously supportive and understands exactly what kind of stress you're going through. Additionally, family reunions are just messy, I don't know anyone with a perfect extended family; there's always some kind of drama going on.

In my case, I love my family, but it's hard to talk to them when they still insist that I'm "wasting time" drawing.

haha. Same for mine. They wanted me to go to medical school.
Hell with that, I'm doing graphic design and illustration :P

There never has been any bitterness over things like family reunions in my family, mostly because there hasn't been a family reunion in like 5 years, and because my family is the only Soma family out of everyone that's related to my dad that still lives anywhere near Fargo because after my grandma died, my uncle divorced his wife and moved across the country for a new job twice, my cousins and his ex have moved to down by Minneapolis, and the rest are either nowhere near Fargo anymore or are dead. My mom's family has had one reunion in my life, but pretty much every day is like a family reunion for her family since she and my grandpa are the farthest people away from the nothing that is northern Minnesota.

--------

Today, my mom and dad's college friends came over for sandwiches and bowling. We got our free baseball tickets, and I had a free hot dog and Coke for breakfast because they were giving those out along with the tickets at the mall.

Today I saw this band live-ish at the World Steam Expo in Michiganland. They didn't actually perform, not with makeup and stuff on, but they did a few panels, a DVD screening, and then they randomly did two of their songs without makeup but completely in character. It was kind of creepy, but so, so awesome.

chu guize, talking about my hatred of Family reunions.

To be honest, they all think I'm wasting my life doing what I do, going to art school in my family is like being a horse and saying: "I'd like to work at the glue factory"

they obviously don't see the potential you have. I mean, you're really talented, and (assuming you're actually the girl you claim to be and not a shirtless bearded man) I very rarely see such talent among young people my age. I would cry if someone like you stopped doing comics and art. :D

But then again this seem to be a predominant problem for young artists...Parents just don't like their kids to be artists.
My parents actually back it up with examples: Vincent Van Gogh didn't earn a single penny from his artworks and ended up killing himself, Picasso had family problems and was promiscuous, Frida Kahlo had health issues and had man problems, Salvador Dali had drug problems...list goes on. And my parents think I will become like them if I do art. :P

haha thank you, but coming from a family of Barristers and ministers, art is a waste of time to them. Plus, my brother and sister are both 'arty' and completely wasted their lives doing shit all, though my sister is now doing some extra degrees at uni it'll sadly not get her a job, which is what my parents want.

also lol, Frida Khalo is a poor example, she was in a bus accident and was impaled on a steel pole, she learnt to paint while recovering because she couldn't do anything else :L

Frida Kahlo is definately the wrong example. But they just think all the terrible things happen to artists. Which I just laugh at. HAHA

..I mean, Da Vinci led a pretty good life, and lived very long (in context of that time period, he did live longer than most)

And today I saw them actually performing, this time completely as robots.

Today, the sirens in town malfunctioned, so anyone who heard them thought we were getting nuked (not true even though they were set to air raid) or a tornado (also not true)

It's 4 am and I'm still not asleep, so I'm sure I won't make it through any Memorial Day stuff I end up going to.

Downloaded Google Sketchup last night, and starting using it today to layout the interior of a frequent building in my comic. Oh. My. Word. This is fantastic. Should've done this sooner.

Luck!

Just remember, they probably aren't even listening to you. Only the person assessing you is listening.

That's how it was for us, anyway.

Today, I did nothing of any significance except go to a Memorial Day event thing and fighting Isaiah.

I can't wait for him to die any longer.

Today I went blueberry picking. It is the pick your own place, that is a thing people do around here. And they have the best blueberries, fresh blueberries are nothing like the ones you get at the store.

I suppose it counts at today since it finished at around midnight, but I went to see Gogol Bordello live. My first real concert, and it was so great I don't even have words for it.
