Martin's former personality was honestly kind of annoying lol. He wasn't completely insufferable, but he was fairly full of himself and it never came off in a way that was particularly endearing. I re-imagined him as this fairly quiet guy who's kind of easy-going and is good at stamping down his own fears if someone else is scared. I honestly wanted to make him the kind of person who would be nice to Sabia no matter how freaked out or awkward she got, and the Martin/Aracely/Sabia/Guitera group as a whole is also designed around that purpose. They're the nice wholesome group to contrast Flori/James/Peek/Teema's dysfunction.

Fast Info:
Martin is a very responsible student. He studies for every test and rarely misses school. He likes basketball, and tries regularly to get James to play with him, but James scolds him for assuming that just because he's tall he would be good at it. He's pretty terrible at math, and only passes because he's so diligent about studying. Other subjects are much better for him. He went to the private Catholic school nearby for his entire education up to senior year, when he begged his parents to let him experience the magic that is public school. Somehow they begrudgingly agreed. He wears dress shirts and slacks every day because he thinks they look nice and also he has very few other clothes after wearing a uniform for over ten years. Other students think he's kind of weird, which is probably correct, but he's escaped most ridicule because high school seniors tend to have a lot better things to do than ogle at the kid wearing semi formal dress to school. Though his belief in the Catholicism he was raised in isn't extremely strong, prior to the events of the comic he would have described himself as Christian. He's fairly superstitious, and believes in ghosts. James disagrees with this firmly.

James and Martin originally had sort of swapped personalities, but I was never happy with how they were then. After I revised them James took on the stronger personality of the two, but he's more quietly confident and laid back than Martin ever was and I think it made him a lot more likable. I tend to enjoy characters who are a little bit terrible, and James is one of my favorites in the whole cast because he's great at getting things to happen. I like to think of my characters as if they're real people, and real humans (especially in the age of the internet) are acutely aware of stuff like tropes and narrative cliches. As a regular person thrown into such a bizarre scenario, I can easily imagine James making the connections to stories we're all familiar with and trying to outsmart them or believing he can twist them to suit his wants.

Fast Info:
He has one younger sibling, and I'm currently forgetting what gender they are. It's possible I've flip flopped and changed it over the years.. He lives with his mom and grandmother. His parents are divorced and his dad lives in another state nearby. They visit him twice a month on weekends, and it's generally a nice time. His dad has been dating on and off, but hasn't found anyone yet, and his mom is content to stay single for now. They separated not long after James' sibling was born, and it was a bit ugly which James has some memories of and is happy is over. Things have died down in the last few years and his parents are now capable of friendly conversation at family gatherings, so that's nice. James likes wrestling and hiking, and is an alright student. He has no idea what he wants to do after high school, and he isn't really that worried either, though Martin worries a bit for his sake. He and Mart became friends as young children after James moved into the same neighborhood. It was a fresh start after the divorce, and the two became very close.

Thanks!
Gotta say, I really like the panel layout in this one.

I scheduled this post for Saturday by accident lol, so here it is just a little late. See you next Friday!

Sabia is also a character that has origins that predate her existence in Frames, but not quite as much as Flori. The original concept that became her was this blue maid ghost that haunted a sprawling Victorian mansion and acted as a guide for the protagonist, but that idea never went very far. She looked very similar, but was considerably more outgoing than Sabia haha. Sabia as she is now came about from my need to make characters for Frames, a new story idea I started working on in ninth grade. She's a blend of that previous character and a girl I met one summer at camp.
I have some cousins who are adopted and a friend of mine in middle school had an adoptive brother join her family, so it's a kind of character I had wanted to include in something for a long time.

Fast Info:
Her adoption was closed, and she became a part of Flori's family as an infant. Her birth mother didn't want children but decided she wanted to experience having a child, and the adoption arrangement was made. Her birth mother works at a large children's book publisher and is married. Sabia loves doing art, particularly sculpting with clay. She's concerned about college and getting a job in that, and hasn't fully decided if she'll apply to art schools or not. Her apron (which is currently folded nicely at the end of her bed in the god dormitory thing that I need to name) was a gift from her grandmother. This has been canon for a long time along with the fact that it's got cute lace along the edges and a nice double pocket, but I never drew that in-comic for some reason. Just pretend it's there, it will be if/when she wears it again. She likes to go to secondhand stores and pick up the most disgustingly trashy novels possible, but it's getting harder to find new ones she hasn't managed to read yet.
