Webcomic description

This is a very silly comic about ten very silly men who make clothes. One of them might be a woman. One is definitely a Wolf.

Well, friends! It is here!

The premise:
It was cruel fate to be born in space, but Elijah Kalgan has vowed he will not die there. He and Chief Engineer MacPhearson have a plan to turn the rickety and misguided Southern Sun around and bring it back to Earth. Unfortunately, that means staging a mutiny.

The background:
For the uninitiated, "Turn Back the Sun" is based on a cheesy sci-fi cult classic called "Space Mutiny." In the original film, the mutineers are the villains, but despite their evil methods their case always seemed more sympathetic. I've written this story so that it stands on its own. You don't need to see the original movie to understand it, but if you choose to I recommend the MST3k screening. Many of the "Easter eggs" in TBTS are references to their jokes.

Hey, everyone! It’s been awhile! I wanted to share an update on my progress and drop a little teaser art to give you a sense of what the new comic will look like. These are some minor characters whose designs I don’t have to be quite as secretive about (but their names shall remain a mystery)!

TL;DR: Tons of progress is being made! I expect to start posting in the new year!

So I got a lot of great feedback on that first draft from May, including from fellow CF comic creators Taily (Awkward Paws) and Proxy170 (Project Arc). That feedback helped me develop an updated (and I believe really solid) second draft! I’ve got a few fresh sets of eyes reading that right now, but I’m pretty confident in the overall structure, so I’ve started thumbnailing!

I expect the comic to come in at around 300 pages when all is said and done. My original plan was to thumbnail the first 100 and then start drawing the earliest pages in earnest while continuing to thumbnail and make minor dialogue tweaks in between; that way I could get to what I really want to do, which is launching the darn thing! But two of my Trusted Advisors were confident that I should complete the entire thumbnailing process before moving onto finished pages. I was reluctant to do this, but the further I get into thumbnailing, the more I think they’re right! It won’t take as long as it might sound. I started in mid-August and I’m already up to about 120.

This does mean I probably won’t be able to start posting as early as I’d hoped. I wanted to launch the comic before the end of this year, but really, why throw away the opportunity to create the biggest buffer possible over Christmas? I have a lot of faith in this idea, and since I know a lack of groundwork was the downfall of TW@WC, I want to allow the breathing room to give this project all the groundwork it needs.

So, yeah! I’ve been super busy and I’m really excited! I’ll be sure to share more when there are new developments. Stay lovely, friends!
