Wander over Yonder, a Disney channel cartoon, was stripped from us before its time :( A beautifully smooth, fun, and clever piece of animation that mirrored the likes of old looney toon cartoons. The creator even said he had many ideas for the show and would just need one more season to give it its big finish but no :( They yoinked it away from us. Cartoonetwork did the same thing to OK KO. At least they had a notice and could adjust to the time they had left and they handled it really well. You can hardly even tell it was a rush job near the end. These shows barely got any advertising or space on the channel roster. They were hit jobs just like with Jeffery Epstein!

I think a lot of stories are ruined by over explanation, for example I won't even bother with a story that has a big block of text as the intro. Sometimes I think, "wow wish I could've seen that" when people are busy standing around explaining things. Manga, especially shonen manga, is special because it shows and tells. While the character is moving we typically get a voice from somewhere telling us in real time or after the fact that something is happening even though you can clearly see it in action. It makes things easier to interpret but they are still showing.

There is an entire era of animation that has mute characters and everybody understands what's going on just fine. Comics, however, need a bit more context because it can't move as expressively. I'm sure there are wordless comics out there because sometimes artists will opt not to use words for pages and pages. On the other hand, its good when characters talk and quip or show themselves through their words as well as their actions.

SO its 2/10 for me. I think words express a lot of personality but depending on the story you may not need them all the time. I think a balance of both is best but if I have to choose I would rather see it. Its a skill that should be used to best serve the story. If you find yourself typing a lot, ask yourself if it would be cooler to see what the character is talking about while they are saying it.

Idk if that made sense. I don't think words are unnecessary in comics, I want to combat still images of standing and talking that's not even used for comedic purposes >:T

So you're saying if I give you 100 smackeroos I'll die? What a deal! Tell me, how do you make a profit without a returning client base? Unless... they do return...

fedoramoron:YOOOOOO i like hazbin hotel! i agree with them in the way that the cursing was totally used as a crutch in the dialogue imo, but that's just one thing that wouldn't get in the way of my enjoyment of a whole show. the animation is crazy, the characters and setting are interesting thus far (as someone who hasn't kept up with the progress and only watched the pilot) and im. a big alastor stan. really big. that's mostly it actually

simply the fact that it was able to happen really gets me as well! imagine wanting to make a cartoon about your ocs and just Doing It

:') I didn't expect to find support. I totally agree that having been made at all in the quality that it was made is a feat. The energy put behind it made it for me, it was so fun! The sheer chaotic energy was amazing. Again I still think the cursing is well placed because these people are not supposed to be eloquent and it shows perfectly. Plus they confirmed that there is a full season in the making! :D

Jermey7:On the subject, it's great that the pilot is out, I enjoyed almost all of it except Katie Killjoy, but now all this COPPA stuff has me worried for the show's future. Because clearly, if it's on the internet and animated, it's for kids. Yes, Hazbin Hotel, GMod Idiot Box, and Suction Cup Man, because of their medium, are for kids. Brilliant thinking, there. I can see no problem arising from this.

I'm tired of people acting like the internet is some eldritch horror. It's more like video rental stores - some things are for kids, some things are not, and despite this you really can't stop little Billy from finding a way to watch the R-Rated stuff. You can try, but at the end of the day he's still going to find a way to get his hands on the South Park VHS. And punishing everyone else to keep Billy from getting it is going to lead to backlash.

I've been hearing about it on twitter and I'm a bit worried too. I hope that the actually shady kids channels are taken down but its hard to trust youtube with anything. Animators are going to have a hurdle if youtube goes about it in a close minded way.

My friends don't like Hazbin Hotel :( They think its childish and edgy :( I didn't realize my friends had become SO OLD. JK I'm just sad I don't have anyone to talk about this show with. One complaint that annoyed me tho was "There was too much unnecessary cursing" I don't curse in my day to day speech but my friends do so imo they say unnecessary curses all the time. So then why can't these characters curse?? It would be incredibly unnatural for them since they are literally DEMONS. This one complaint just got to me especially since the cursing is used naturally and not as the butt of a joke. Its just in their character to talk that way. Using curses as insults or emphases doesn't bother me personally coming from characters, they're just words and the way people speak is important for character building. I'd feel like this show would be childish if they said bad word and that means I have to laugh.

I'd totally love to work on anything magical girl related! I couldn't do it for free either but I am really interested in collabing on something like that and I can modify my style to be even more anime lol. Hmu, sounds interesting!

The flavor does get old pretty quickly. I'm glad we're finally having an open and honest conversation about this.

I would be so happy to have you critique Cafe on Crepe Island's first chapter! Its just about wrapped up and I would really like your opinion on the chapter as a whole. Is it a good start, where I can improve, what you think would be best to focus on more in later chapters, and all those things!

You won't believe how rewarding it feels to work longer on a page, to think more about every detail. You've been working on it so long and so much I really recommend slowing down and collecting your thoughts on your series! Think about how you feel about your drawing schedule, where you want your art to go, and what kind of story you want to make in the future if you decide to start a new one. Whether its slower updates or just taking a break, you're almost at the finish line and I think looking back you will be happy you completed it.

23. Is personal improvement an important part of the comic hobby to you? Do you set aside time to learn about the hobby, be that reading instructional books, watching tutorials, or studying creators you admire? Do you engage in writing and drawing practice like following prompts, muscle memory exercises, or life studies? What creative growth methods have been helpful for you, and do you have tips to share?

It is a HUGE part of improvement, learn by doing and all that. I try to challenge myself all the time outside of my comic as well. The monthly online art challenges, style challenges, mini comics, full illustrations, I try to do everything I can to get better alongside drawing my comic. I'm trying a lot of things, but nothing seems to change, at least nothing I can see. I think I've come to a point where I'm very comfortable with my art which just makes me want to do more.

24. Is style consistency more important to you than seeing improvement from page to page? If so, what do you do to ensure consistency?

Style consistency is more important if we're just talking about pages. I think, in the case of comics, improvement happens slowly and naturally so its not something I actively think about. I try to gather info outside of making my comics and hope to god they spill into my pages lol.

25. If your art style has improved over time, do you ever feel tempted to redraw or touch up early pages? Is it something you have the time or resources to do while continuing regular updates, or do you want to wait until the comic is finished? Is this something you’ve done already, and if so do you have thoughts or tips to share?

At this point there are too many pages to do something like that haha. I don't think I'll be going back to redraw this comic, its good to see where you started after all.

26. Do you seek out critique or feedback? What do/did you hope to get out of it? Have you found it helpful or discouraging? Did any feedback you received make you angry?

I do, I really do. I want to improve more than anything so I'll take feedback from anyone who would give my comic the time of day. I haven't had a piece of feedback that's made me angry yet. Maybe frustrated but thats obviously towards myself.
