kromblite:Welcome to CF! I subscribed to Jix. I like the way you drew characters and scenery into photographs.

Well, thank you, but that's just for this story arc.

Again, thanks to everyone for the warm welcomes.

Unka John:Which part doesn't have the rednecks?

I meant completely filled with rednecks and that's North Texas. The DFW area. Arlington to be specific. Okay, we have some, but most of us are fairly suburbanized.

And thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

I'm pretty sure you didn't.

That's awesome. Thanks.

Well, the pinned thread by Kyo asked us not to do shameless self advertisement, so I was trying to avoid that.

My name is Micah, I'm in my mid-twenties, and I live in Texas...the part without the rednecks. I used to be a substitute teacher, but I got bored with it and quit and I recently graduated from UTA.

Uh...nothing else of interest, I suppose. I'm from the Great Drunk Duck exodus. I tried Comic Dish, but I don't remember anything about HTML from when I learned it in high school, so I can't make my pages look very good and I felt the people there were kinda snobby. No offense if you're from there. So far I like this site better than DD and CD.

Regarding my current avatar, I drew one of my characters from Dragon City as a My Little Pony. Her cutie mark is a book she had published in the comic. It's fitting because she likes to read...a lot. (Sorry if that sounded like an advertisement, I wasn't trying to make it one.)

And my screen name is the name of a character from my comic Jix. The names of a lot of the aliens in there are based on Greco-Roman mythology. Dyonus, of course being based on Dionysus. (The reason being is because that race of alien is currently conquering the galaxy.)

I'm not loyal to that site at all. I just know I can't get 100% of my readers onto ComicFury, so rather than leave them out in the cold, I'm providing them that site as a mirror.

Also, I haven't exactly felt welcomed, but I haven't felt like people were being cold towards me, either.

Dyonus:You know what I haven't seen brought up yet?

Will this site even work when they bring it back up? I mean, the last time they tried to convert the site over to its new system it crashed and now they're trying again. I know they probably worked a few bugs out of the system by now, but...it's Drunk Duck! I have no faith this will even work and then they'll have to revert back to the original layout and this will be all for naught.

I bought it up on page seven. :/

You have more faith than me. I give it two months before they give up in frustration and go back to the old DD site. Like when they did the last upgrade.

Fine. Fine. I'll edit it. I forgot that everyone brought it up.

Well...another projected launch time has come and gone and I am not in the least bit surprised this time around. Disappointed, yes. Surprised, no.

That's made three now. But to be fair, they gave a general time. Monday evening. Which Monday evening or in what time zone is another story entirely. But hey...it's gotta be Monday evening somewhere, right?

Funny. I could have sworn I brought this up quite clearly.

The difference between the first attempt and this one is that first they tried updating the old code. It messed up the site big time. Changing a code that you don't know how works 100% can have serious repercussions.

Now they're moving all the data, including user profiles, forums and comics and everything else that's been uploaded to the site to a new database that's based on a brand new code. The payoff from that stunt a site that's 100% written by the guys currently running it. It should mean that if something goes wrong they'll have a much better idea about where the fault lies and how to fix it and allow them to introduce new features far more easily.

If it's still not working by then... well... I have no words about how much of a facepalm that's gonna be like.
MrWeatherby:Tim Wellman is the only person I've seen actually make an ass out of himself while going off on Wowio and Drunk Duck. I'm assuming you're talking about Marlowe, and he was spot-on with everything he brought up, while Ozone basically sat there and spouted really bizarre crap about the Japan earthquake.

Oh, I remember that thing. Boy, that was a weird argument that I didn't want to touch with a 10 foot pole.
Arden:This is all pretty indicative of the way things have become at DD, where open discussion is increasingly verboten. Now they're coming over here and trying to verbote us too.

Hmm...

Definition of VERBOTEN
: forbidden; especially : prohibited by dictate

Wait? So when I don't agree with a previous statement of yours and ask for reference to back up your claim, I'm forbidding you to... that doesn't even make sense.

Sorry. Guess you did.

And if "The Duck" turns out to be worse than Drunk Duck, then I'm severing my ties to them. I was never one for community. I just need to convince my readers to come over here.

Why wait, though? Honestly. Comic Fury is a lot more functional, and the staff is actually responsive about fixing and adding features. If you're not part of the DD community, and you seem to be as irritated as you are with it, why bother seeing how the update is going to pan out?

Yeah...I guess there really is no reason to wait. Well...I've already begun the transfer, but I have a massive archive on a couple of my comics, so that always makes me a little hesitant.

I'm pretty sick of DrunkDuck to be honest. I understand that they're wanting to update their site. I'm hoping it'd be less buggy.

And I know this crap takes a long time to do, but the amount of time their site crashes or bugs out or whatever really just added to me just out and out hating Drunk Duck for their downtime. I don't pretend my comic is popular or anything, but all I really wanted to do is post my comic. I'm a bit obsessive compulsive about not being able to get my comics on there in time to the point that I uploaded Monday's comics on Friday so that they would post on Monday...and then they extended their time.

I don't know much about programming, so maybe I'm being harsh on them or something, but I'm just sick of this whole update. And as I said, most of it has to do with how little their site actually works.

So now I'm setting up my mirror sites here. I do like it better than ComicDish. The people there seem like such snobs...and I don't know anything about HTML so my sites end up looking like crap because they don't really have any way to make them look halfway decent without HTML.

I wish I had know about you guys before. It's taken a while to move a couple of my comics here.

And if "The Duck" turns out to be worse than Drunk Duck, then I'm severing my ties to them. I was never one for community. I just need to convince my readers to come over here.
