tl;dr When people say your work reminds them of something else, that likely means your work affects them in a similar way, it hit the same buttons for them, or it has similar aesthetics, and it's probably a compliment.
That's a great way of putting it! And that's what I mean when I say it feels like a compliment <3
The most offended I ever felt by a comparison was when I was in highschool... someone told me my character Hizruk was Sasuke (from Naruto. A character that I dislike).
The person said this...proobably I guess because of his hair? Haha and admittedly, Hizruk was a lot more angsty when I was in highschool (because I was more angsty I guess ha).
I compiled a detailed list of how he was completely DIFFERENT than Sasuke XD. Haha nowadays I don't think anyone would make that comparison-- he's become rather developed since then.
Other than that people have said little things here and there like my comic reminds them of Avatar. Not the story or characters themselves but like.....some art aspects and pacing. I take that as a compliment I guess XDD *shrugs*
For me... the only character aside from mine I drew pretty obsessively was Batman X'D...from the animated Series from the 90s. I LOOOOOOVED that show and loved him X"D. But I never like..tried to add my own flare to him or anything... because he was perfect the way he was <3 (LOL). I don't know why I was so obsessed with him for a while...
In fact, I was in a Batman drawing phase when my mom said "You should make your own characters, you'd be so good at it" X"D...hahaha and I was like "My OWN characters? :O~" and that's when I created Hizruk, the main character of my comic now, and I haven't actualy drawn Batman since really X"D. I only drew that art for me because I never posted it anywhere. Still have it actually :O (it's from 2004-2005 is when I was the most passionate about all this X"D)
Now the only fan art I draw is for my peers and their comics I enjoy. I like the satisfaction of drawing something FOR someone who would actually get to receive it and feel good about it.
I've drawn popular fan art before, but.... I admit I had a motive behind it HA. Lolol I love Avatar; the Last Airbender, but I only drew AtLA fan art preetty much to get views because "Serpents of Old" is kinda targeting that demographic.
I do feel a little guilty about that.....and I would like to draw some of those characters doing them actual justice. (and get more views LOL jk jk)
Well on any art program you can go to "Edit" and then "Change image size" (or "change image resolution depending on the program) and you can do it that way...
On Photoshop I liked to "Save for Web"..... which then let's you make the size proportions
On Clip Studio Paint, to do the same thing I noticed I have to select "Export single layer" and then "select output size" etc. Doing it that way I noticed saves a better quality when you go to submit it online because sometimes scaling down can make an image a little fuzzy.
I wouldn't let the image be more than 1000 px wide--- you don't want anyone to have to scroll sideways to read a page. Very little people go through the trouble XD
I kinda echo the other opinions of this thread to post it on the regular site. The reason for it being...I think you have that kinda freedom with a comic like Awkward Paws (proud subscriber over here! <3). All of us who sub your comic because of your great sense of humor and lovable characters are already supporting you and will get to see your story ^_^
To be honest.... I'm not sure I'd wanna sub a whole new site just for a 30 page story line even tho I'm a fan XD. LOL just being honest here....because as it is I have a hard time keeping track of my extensive sub list X"D.
So my vote is for the official site! And Matt's idea with the chapter system is a good one! :D
