MisterParadigm:I have been drawing A LOT during this quarantine. So much. Oh man.

Here's an interesting throwback piece. I took the modern character model for Mallory and applied it to the very first concept drawing of Mallory.

Oki so I fell asleep and came back to the thread lol, so I made some edits for clarity to the original post because of the confusing and presumptuous wording, my bad. Didn't mean anything bad, like mentioned if I got something wrong please correct me :P

I agree with what someone said earlier in the thread; there is a very long list of points why comics are on their last legs. And none of them alone are enough to stop them, but the sum has bad potential. I practically grew up with DC in my hand. And although I absolutely love manga and indie comics (hence why I'm here lol, I'd love to see some of these comics in a shop one day) I 'd love to support a local comic shop and read some DC or try Marvel. But I've missed out on so much I wouldn't want to put the time to just binge years of comic issues to get a certain series to make sense. And even if I just picked up a new one I dunno if I'd care about the rebooted characters, or the unfamiliar new characters. And yeah there are ones that do it good, obviously. But with all the the other options from competition, I don't know why I would bother.

Personally I agree with some of the diversity movements. Some of my favorite webcomics do it really well. And I only really care about the identity of who wrote them when it's executed well, so I can keep track of their work. But when that's the selling point to the comic like now, to the point where their powers and backstories have so little care in them, it's like laughably disappointing, but still disappointing.

(edited for clarity, please remember to be civil)

So unless you've been offline for the past week or so, or don't use Twitter/YouTube for art reasons, you know about Marvel's current situation. They've recently put out arguably one of, if not the worst received concepts for a comic in their history, The New Warriors. If you don't know, Marvel released a trailer and posted on their social media a new concept (if you can call it that) called The New Warriors. This wondrous comic has brilliant characters, featuring Screentime, a kid obsessed with dank memes who gets exposed to "internet gas" and has the power to... instantly Google-fact check something. This isn't even the worst of it but the backlash is insanely awful.

And the only thing worse than that for comic fans is the timing of this announcement. On its own The New Warriors might've been not as bad. But this is accompanied by the declining sales of comic shops even before the Heineken Virus all over the news. And not so long ago, Diamond Comic Distributors would stop sending comics to retailers, and printers to not send any comics to Diamond for the forseeable future. For reference, Diamond is responsible for distributing: (don't quote me on this) Marvel, DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics, and more. Meaning we have not long before no new issues get shipped to shops, probably putting a lot of nails in a lot of coffins. With all good will for DC and especially Marvel dying in a cesspool of pandering, and with an economic recession on the horizon, the mainstream comic industry is essentially dead.

I collected all this information following some credible comic experts' discussions online, so please correct me if I'm wrong about anything but what do you think about this? About the New Warriors? About the industry that shaped webcomics approaching collapse?

In light of recent events and also boredom I drew a news watching party. The girls' night in features:

Camilla of Cryptida
Katana of Sunstrike & Bluemist: An Origin Story
Beatrice of Stigma Chronicle
Donna of Grinder$
Alexi of Pine Hill Creature Feature
and Candy of Cafe on Crepe Island

Woulda drew more but y'know, stuff.

Yup yup I'm definitely taking part in both of these. This is also good practice for my dynamic posing, which I'm balls at. (Also finding a consistent role sheet for the Wizard of Oz was harder than I thought) As for the opening act, I am auditioning:

Stigma Chronicle: (flagged with a yellow L) No previous exchanges, this is my first time.

-Else (As much as Dorothy appeals, there are probably better fits for that role, and a tree Stetson sounded hilarious so I wanna join that party. You can never have too many trees.)
-Beatrice (as an audience member, proudly observing her sister in this trainwreck)

And I literally have a theatre character but he's not introduced yet so this hurts :<

I like drawing poses so no limit here from me. But if I NEED a limit, I guess 10. I'm also fine with the sexual themes and the like, but given none of my cast currently debuting is 18+, no frontal nudity (N) flags from me.

Actually... It's affected my comic POSITIVELY, and I don't know how weird that sounds or if I sound bad, but hear me out.

I haven't been feeling the virus despite the fact the state I live in has one of the highest counts in the country. My family stocked up on a hellish amount of food and cleaning supplies from one of our family friends who panic-bought. So our main and only issue has been trying to escape hearing it every 5 minutes. Thinking about it too much just makes me really sad and depressed, and no one I talk to on Discord is online recently, so I just bury my head in Paint Tool SAI and draw page after page in my comic.

Despite what I said and despite it increasing my work productivity, it's affecting ME negatively, as I imagine it's affecting everyone. Normally I draw because I draw. Now I'm drawing because I don't just want to lie in bed feeling useless against the virus ravaging the planet as the world goes into utter frenzy, and this is the best way to take my mind off of it.

Kyo bless anyone in worse situations than myself, and be safe out there friends.

Maybe I should avoid character threads until I expand my roster because I only have 5 6 characters, 2 3 of which haven't shown up in the comic. But I'll do it anyway, and one is already in my cast list so he won't be a big spoiler. I'll still keep it super safe but if you don't wanna be 110% spoiler free just skip over the names "Scotch" and "Gulliver".

EDIT: I FORGOT ABOUT PERCY OMGTRFBHDTT, skip him if you want but I love this mans.

I'd also up the Wizard of Oz because it's so approachable and totally not because I played a role in a play once, or if not that then I'd go for Annie or Into The Woods. If I had to vote ONE I'd go with Oz though.

mightguy15:Not that we are panicking either, but honestly, I don't know how to feel about this. This has never happened to this area before, and while I'm still a little agitated by the panic especially in the demographic of people who have been stated to have the ability to recover from it, I'm really beginning to get paranoid for some of my family members.

Same here, I am cautious and everyone should be, but I'm not panicked and I'm really tired of the people who are, as they're just escalating the issue. Half the reason people are panicking are because other people are panicking. I haven't been able to hold a single conversation without it coming up, and I don't talk to anyone over the age of 30 irl, with the exception of my mom.

That's probably the scariest part for me, my mom falls under the EXACT age range for the most deaths caused by it, and she's the main person in my family earning money and out of the house the most too. She already has a bunch of medical issues as it is, so I really hope it passes before it reaches my home.

I didn't even realize it was in Georgia until my mom's middle school she works at got cancelled and she's talking about a possible quarantine. Kinda glad though, those schools are absolutely disgusting. I decided to look up and there was 42 confirmed cases and 1 death here. Most of them are in Atlanta, which is where I was going to move come summertime, but I guess there's a monkey wrench in my plans there.

I'm also hearing talk that black people, i.e. me, are immune to COVID-19, or at least more resistant. I 100% doubt it, but if it were true I'd not only be in the age demographic for being unharmed by the virus, but the racial demo as well. But even if I get the virus and it passes from me, the rest of the world would still be in a panic so my plans are still fricked.
