Looks like the cache didn't clear properly. I've cleared the cache for your comic now (you can also do this yourself by going to info & settings, "edit webcomic information", and hitting save), and it shows up properly.

I think I know what the issue is and will make sure it won't happen again. This was a scheduled update, right?

e: this should be fixed now

yeah I didn't allow people to put up nsfw ads in my settings. People just do it anyway, if you report it to me I'll get rid of it, but I guess it's a bit of a moot point now. there's also no need to feel shy about disabling the ads, if you don't want 'em on your comic, i understand

not in any meaningful way. We'll start a patreon in a few months (or so), but the site never really relied on the project wonderful for funding anyway, it was more of a "nice to have"

I might end up replacing the voluntary ads with a small ad linking back to CF

RJDG14:If the site is undergoing a rewrite at tye moment, do you intend to make any major changes to the design or will your updates simply add a handful of features and make improvements to performance?

mostly I've just been touching the backend so far, trying to keep the scope of the project as small as possible. If there are obvious improvements, I do make 'em, but they have to work with all the old code that's still running. Granted, now that the webcomic viewer is done, this will be much less of a problem going forward. (btw, 5 pages in management left, and the front page, and then all webcomic related code should be recoded)

As for redesigns - there aren't any concrete plans for a complete site design overhaul (although I'll concede it may be worth thinking about), but the layout of webcomic management is definitely going to get a makeover.

GMan003:I have found a bug. An extremely trivial, easily-fixed bug, but a bug nonetheless.

thanks, will look at that and fix.

LMS:I don't see any of these "site updates" you are talking about. I require proof that you aren't lying to get likes.

that's why i intentionally left in some bugs

Lightfoot:
I think one big issue is they want people to set NSFW stuff as viewable only to the Patreons? I think they said instead of being view-able to everyone?

yes, you are right:

We restrict some types of content and rewards. You cannot:

Create any content or rewards with real people engaging in sexual or violent acts.
Create any content or reward with nudity, or realistic depictions of sexual or violent acts, unless you flag the page as Adult Content and make the posts only viewable by patrons.

The total comments are available in the statistics, on the side.

As for individual comic comment counts, it's a sensible request. Unfortunately the edit comics screen is one of the five management pages that has not been rewritten yet, but when I do, I plan to revamp it a bit anyway, and I'll probably add this.

In the meantime, this information is actually currently technically accessible in an incredibly user-unfriendly way. Since I know you're quite comfortable with our templates, here it is:

<table border=1>
[l:archive]
<tr><td>
[v:l.comictitle]
</td><td>
[v:l.comments]
</td></tr>
[/]
</table>

just pop it on an invisible extra page

Don't worry, the five was there the whole time. It's fixed now, so new ratings will show up immediately, if you don't want to wait, you can also go to edit your comic information and hit save, which clears all webcomic caches.

e: sorry I just realized that this may not be clear, any cache related problems only affect how things are displayed, so the ratings weren't missing, the page just wasn't being told to update when it should be.

that's not so bad, sounds like a cache isn't being invalidated where it should be. Will fix that now.

thanks, it's been mostly pretty anticlimactic so far, I guess I did an okay job (although maybe it's a bit premature for celebrations)

shaneoid:I'd be up for supporting a CF Patreon!

you better be, i haven't forgotten about my money shaneoid

(but seriously, I appreciate y'all saying that but now I feel a bit bad for derailing this thread, so please no more posts about the CF patreon. There'll be plenty of time to discuss once I actually announce it!)

Hey everyone,

as a prank, instead of adding new features, I decided to completely rewrite the webcomic viewer from scratch. It will work mostly identical to how it did before, and if I did my job right, your webcomic sites should look exactly identical as before.

If you use a simple layout, there might be some slight changes, which are partially due to bugfixes (e.g. it won't show subscribe links anymore if your webcomic is hidden from comicfury), and unfortunately the spacing between links in your navigation might grow a bit wider than before, that should be the only change that I wasn't able to avoid, so you might have to tweak your navigation settings if you have very precise standards for the distance between your nav links, sorry.

If anything behaves oddly or seems broken, let me know! It's a massive change, thousands of lines of code are being switched active here at once. I did test it well, though, so hopefully it will all go extra smooth

Yeah, but why though?

Okay so as you might have been able to infer, I didn't really just do it as a joke. ComicFury is undergoing a rewrite at the moment, I haven't been making too much noise about it, because I figure there's only so many times I can announce invisible changes before people start getting a little annoyed with me, but it's been happening for the last year, and one by one I've been replacing all old pages with new code. Unfortunately, for technical reasons (most prominently to prepare for the update from php5 -> php7, but also just me being a much better coder now and the old codebase being a mess), this was pretty unavoidable.

This is not the last bit of the recode that has to be done, but it was the biggest chunk that's still left, and it is also the biggest chunk that will be updated at once. The other changes are just individual pages that probably won't get announced at all, like with most pages I've done.

So what does that mean for me?

Well, in the near future, it means that simple layouts will soon be convertible to HTML layouts! And it also means that the part of the site update that was blocking a lot of changes I've been meaning to make is now done. It also means that this massive developer timesink is also drawing to a close, so I'll be able to focus on more exciting updates than "hey everybody, nothing new was added, except maybe some bugs, watch out"

Guybrush20X6:Well good to know you've got something planned.

Then again, you wouldn't have responded if you were curled up in a corner sobbing, would oyu?

I think ComicFury is pretty safe no matter what, it's much easier to stay in business if you don't pay your programmers and don't care about staying in the green.

Product Placement:No. FCC is purely a US Government thing. It sets the regulations that US based internet providers have to follow. The anti-net neutrality thing is basically giving them more freedom to regulate traffic flows, which essentially allows them to provide preferential services to websites willing to fork over the cash. Internet providers outside the states follow regulations set by whatever laws that are dictated by their local governments.

I'm not so positive this is true. I'm not an expert on the matter though, but since quite a lot of internet infrastructure (like servers, but also stuff like cloudfare) is hosted in the US, wouldn't that mean that if that gets throttled by their providers, it might also affect europeans, even if their own ISP isn't doing any throttling.

Although I guess it might be a bit harder to get away selling throttled internet to hosting companies than to end users

Guybrush20X6:So how will we support Comic Fury now if we can't buy ads? Will CF have it's own internal service or will Donations start up again?

i'm not too faffed about it. I was kinda planning on starting a patreon in a couple months or so anyway, but I'm looking to finish the site recode before I focus on anything like that (almost done now actually).

e: i might just turn the voluntary ads into an ad for CF itself or somethin'
