Daniel: Contact Albert.

Daniel sends a PM to Albert.

hey share your infinite wisdom with me

Muscle Woman: Wait at the docks. Flex the gang. Interrogate the boss.
(LUCK: 12)

Muscle Woman lurks the docks until nightfall. Just as the dock workers had told her, the gang appears. Muscle Woman's flex-senses tell her to wait so she can overhear some conversation before she flexes everyone out of organised crime.

As people arrive at the door, they knock twice. They then whisper: "It is Inevitable." and are allowed to enter. Some kind of code, Muscle Woman surmises.

Muscle Woman decides to try the passcode as well, to get access to the meeting. She goes up to the door. "It is Inevitable." she vocal-flexes. However, having staked out the inside of the building, her passcode attempt fails abysmally as the gang grow suspicious of someone saying the passcode to try and exit. Despite all attempts to flex her way out of the situation, the lone mafia-hunter is vastly outnumbered and is quickly thrown out of the building.

Blockead: Go to Verde Beach. Buy a hat.

Blockead goes to the Verde Beach shops to get a hat, but on arrival discovers that the hat store is on fire. He (INT: 2) decides to go in anyway, hoping that there will be some hats to purchase at a discounted rate.
"Hot day." says Albert to himself. "But it's a dry heat."

Hugo: Find books on being a detective.
(LUCK: 19)
Hugo finds exactly what he is looking for: the 1983 classic, "How to be a detective". But the book inside the dust cover isn't "How to be a detective" — it's a notebook, totally blank but for a simple message on the first page: "I have stolen this book and will not be returning it". He looks for another book — "Detective Work for Dummies" — but it's the same, book missing, cryptic message. In desperation he reaches for a fictional mystery novel, and even it has been stolen. There seems to be some kind of detective book thief on the loose!

Amethyst: Buy non-tangerine flavoured lollipops.

Amethyst arrives at the corner store only to discover that it is on fire. She (LUCK: 20!) realises that she's standing right next to a motion-activated fire hydrant, one of the many safety devices that had been installed by the city in the wake of the last mafia attacks. Usually these just end up spraying unsuspecting pedestrians with a forceful jet of water, but today it would serve its true purpose: saving the lollipops!

She waves her hand in front of the hydrant and it begins to spew water in the direction of the flames. They soon go out and she ventures into the building to obtain three-dozen watermelon flavoured lollipops!

Avery: Venture into the world in search of food.

Avery wanders sleepily through the streets of Verde Beach to try and find something to eat. She heads to the local corner store, hoping to find some kind of snack, or even (the incredible concept) an actual meal. Instead, she finds what seems to be a running trend these days: a fire. While her beloved corner store is as-yet unaffected, the local hat store has very much gone up in flames. Shockingly, a dimwitted-looking man has wandered straight in! Avery rushes in to pull him out.
"What are you doing!? Are you insane!?"
Albert turns around. "I'm here to buy a hat."
"The store is on fire!"
He looks around. The strange girl is correct. The moment is interrupted by a burning rafter falling from the ceiling, blocking off the entrance. They are trapped!

But just as suddenly, the fire goes out.
"What happened?" Avery asks, stunned.
"Maybe someone threw watermelons at the fire." suggests Albert. "That would explain the smell."
"I mean — I don't deny that it smells like watermelons here, but watermelons aren't a good substitute for actual water."

They step over the previously-burning rafter and out onto the street, where they are promptly stopped by two people in masks. One punches Albert in the face and grabs for his book. Albert is knocked to the ground and the attackers pick up the book.
"We'll take this." says the masked assailant. The other masked individual laughs, a crazed laugh that sounds more amused than spiteful.

"Hey!" shouts a voice from the other side of the road. Another two masked people run toward Albert and Avery. "This was our trap! Get your own!"
"We were here first!" replies the one with the book. "Bugger off!"
The two newcomers begin to walk slowly toward the original assailants, before suddenly realising that one of them had vanished. This is the last thing they remember before their heads were slammed quickly together, knocking them both out cold. With the new attackers dealt with, they turn their attention to Albert and Avery.

The duo soon find themselves bound and blindfolded. They overhear a conversation.
"The boss will be pretty happy about this."
"I'm pretty happy about this myself. Hey, what's that?"
Then, a series of thumping noises, and silence. The ropes loosen and the blindfolds fall, and Albert and Avery stand to find themselves face-to-face with a horse.
"Neigh." says the horse.

Manningham: Perform an autopsy on the dead person.
(LUCK: 20!!)

The good doctor drags Higgs' body inside the building to work. With no electricity, Manningham lights a circle of candles to provide enough light to see, and gets to work. He clutches the blade and deftly inserts it into the body of Higgs with all the skill of one intimately familiar with the field of surgery. Working quickly, he discovers that yes, Higgs is indeed dead, and it looks like the body was moved from its original location. There's no obvious cause of death, except for the bullethole in his chest. While pondering if said bullethole is related, Manningham looks down at his hand. Oh no! This isn't his surgery knife at all! It's his ritualistic sacrifice knife! Smoke fills the circle of candles, spiralling upwards. Manningham coughs twice before looking up to see some kind of apparition in front of him.
"What do you want?" asks the being.
"Uh." Manningham is speechless.
"You drag me all the way out here to ignore my questions? I was having a great time and now I'm here and you have a lot to answer for."
Camille rushes over. "Oh my gods, are you a demon? I've always wanted to meet a demon."

Dawn sighs. "So did we find anything from the autopsy after all?"
"Yeah, we found a demon, you idiot. Get with the program."

Helen: Examine the scroll of wisdom.

It seems to be a magic-infused document that will temporarily boost the intelligence of those who read it aloud.

Muscle Woman: Interrogate the dock workers.
(LUCK [10]: 11)

Muscle Woman pins a dock worker to the wall. "Where are they!" she flex-shouts. "Who!?" the dock worker cries. "The gang!" She flexes threateningly.
"Wait, wait! I'll tell you! Let him go!" shouts another dock worker. Muscle Woman drops the worker to the floor as they continue. "We don't know anything - we just pay them to use our premises after hours!"
"You pay them?"
"Yeah."
"What do you get out of it?"
"No arson attacks?"

So there were no bad guys here, at the moment anyway. Muscle Woman is no closer to finding their plans, but has managed to find out when this so-called "gang" might be meeting up.

Albert: Buy a toy FBI badge, claim to be Nick Jackelson, take lead on the investigation.
(ROLEPLAY ABILITY [14]: 14)

"The name is Jackelson." says Albert, having seen something like this on television once. "Nick Jackelson. Nick Jackelson, FBI agent. Agent Nick Jackelson, who is an FBI agent."
The policeman on scene looks like they don't totally buy it, but, unwilling to turn down someone who might actually be FBI, lifts the police tape and allows Albert in.
"What do we know?" he asks the first person he sees.
"Ah, an agent." the person says. "My biggest fear."
"We know your biggest fear?" Albert asks, confused.
"You know my biggest fear!?" they shout, terrified. "I'm sorry! I didn't know that it was illegal and-"
Not getting anywhere, Albert tries again. "Shut up and tell me what happened here."
"But that's a contradiction!"
They run away screaming. Albert decides to investigate the scene himself. There's a body, of course, which purportedly belongs to Higgs. The body certainly looks like a Higgs, which is pretty close. There's also a key on the ground beside the body, which Albert takes, and a book, which Albert also takes. The book wouldn't be terribly notable since this is a library except for the fact that it is titled "extremely important secrets of the criminal mafia", which is a pretty long title for a library book.
Albert is tapped on the shoulder. "Investigating, eh?" It's Crime Analyst Moon, who Albert has already forgotten.
"Yes. I am the FBI." Albert replies.
"What a coincidence." says Moon. "I am also the FBI."
"Oh." says Albert.
"Which part of the FBI are you in?" Moon asks.
"Yes." Albert replies.
"A good division." He pauses. "I see you have found a book."
"Yes." Albert replies again.
"May I see it?"
Albert gives the book to Moon, who opens it and flips through it. "Very nice. Good find. I'll make sure this gets to HQ." As he turns away, he looks back, glancing between the body and Albert. "By the way... agent. I heard that there was some activity near Verde Beach. The bad kind of activity. Might be a good idea to stay away from Verde Beach for a while." He walks off.

Helen: Try key in every lock.
(LUCK [10]: 16)
Helen tries the key in the door lock, since the door was already locked and thus maybe had a key. No dice; the key Helen holds is far too small, and also red, which isn't a very door-lock colour. She looks around the room for other lockable doors, windows, and so on. Finding none, she is about ready to give up, when she spots the main reception desk. Upon it sits a red chest, and the top drawer of the desk is also bright red. She looks at the key. She looks at the chest. She looks at the desk. She looks at the key. Suddenly, and quite unexpectedly, she has a brilliant idea.
She runs over to the desk, picks up the chest, and throws it at the ground. Rather than exploding open like Helen had hoped, it bounces once and lands on the ground in one piece. Then Helen has another idea, and uses the key to unlock the chest. It works! Inside the chest is five mana potions, two scrolls of illusion, a scroll of strength, and a scroll of wisdom. Spurred by her victory, she tries to open the desk drawer, and again meets with success. Success comes in the form of an open drawer, and in the drawer is a book with a totally black cover. Helen opens the book and begins to read:

extremely important secrets of the criminal mafia

1. influence is maintained by holding leverage over those with power
2. we know the mayor far too well, hold the police chief's wife hostage, and have threatened the very flammable merchandise in the docks. the banker and the artist are of our own ranks. the prelate fears action and is unlikely to move against us while we tend to their fields
3. neither chaos nor inevitable may gain a foothold - this would massively destabilise operations

Aha! This rapid exposition was exactly what Helen had been looking for - nay, it was exactly what she had been dreaming about! Besides rabbits! This - though it didn't entirely make sense just yet - would surely help them pin down the mafia once and for all.

Helen: Closely observe the rest of the group.
(LUCK [15]: 7)

Helen decides that she is the least unrabbitlike of the group and that she should therefore observe herself.

She is very Heleny.

Muscle Woman: Go to the docks to speak with the other gang. Punch???
(LUCK [15]: 5)

Muscle Woman flexes her way to the docks and raps loudly on the door of the main building, figuring that any suspicious characters would probably have camped out the main building. The door falls down under the strength of her rap.
Noises fly from her mouth as her voice box flexes. "Who in here is a bad guy!?"
The dock workers look in her direction, but say nothing, apparently intimidated by Muscle Woman. She punches the air, initiating a sonic boom.

WombatJuggler: Walk around the apartment.

WombatJuggler goes for a good walk around the house. This is a great way to keep the muscle tone up through the long days of sitting. They hear a noise outside: loud, obnoxious, and ruining their walk. They go to the window and - very cautiously - pull the blind down, just a little, just enough to look out. Flashing blue and red lights greet their vision. Something seems to be going on outside. WombatJuggler had thought that living opposite a library would be quieter than their other option of living opposite the student housing, but here they were face-to-face with sirens! What a mess.

Albert: Go to the nearest library and investigate the murder there!
Albert heads to the local library, the only one in town. He is stopped in his tracks by a strange man in a strange costume.
"Hey, you can't be here. Police business."
The strangely costumed man looks almost like a police officer.
"Who are you?" Albert manages to pronounce.
"I'm Detective Inspector Constable."
"Right, Inspector."
"I'm only Inspector to my friends."
"I'm your friend."
"No, sir, you are not. Please leave."
Albert either ignores or doesn't understand Detective Constable and so continues walking. Detective Constable walks helplessly after him, recent legislation preventing him from interfering in the affairs of a taxpayer. Albert comes across a body.
"Who are you?" he asks the body.
"We- we don't know who he is." Inspector lies. "Please leave."
"That's not good. If you knew who he was, you might be able to fix the crime."
"What crime?" the Detective asks. "This might not even be a crime."
They are suddenly joined by another of the police, this one carrying a very large laptop. "Crime Analyst Moon!" Inspector shouts. "What have you found?"
"We've identified the body." Moon begins. "It looks like it's murder after all."
The Detective is taken by surprise. "Murdered? Who could murder the most terrified man in the city?"
"I think lots of people would like to murder Higgs." Moon suggests. "Lots of rivals." She begins to list off a number of potential suspects.

Albert stumbles away from the scene, not having even borrowed a library book, let alone found any clues. He is glad that he is not the person who was murdered.

Daniel: Read the last game's backlog.

This is the fourth incarnation of the game, and it's really starting to feel like a sequel to a sequel to a sequel. The first was pretty original - the mafia have infiltrated a small-town community board and are trying to sabotage the upcoming Autumn Festival, so the board has to stop them. Cute, kinda stupid, entertaining. The sequel was, well, a sequel, with the same context-free setting as the first but the Spring Festival this time. The third game was a gritty reboot, introducing a cast of characters and moving the setting to some big city called Autre. The mafia is headed up by Higgs, who used to be Mayor before turning to a life of crime - and now he's looking to take control of it again. The town managed to jail all of the mafia last time and Higgs fled town.

This game seems a little different. The main cast is a crack team of Mafia experts who are out to eliminate the mafia once and for all. It seems they aren't the only ones with that goal though!

Muscle Woman: Search the library for information about local gangs and Higgs.
(LUCK: 12)

Muscle Woman manages to discern from a recent newspaper that Higgs wasn't doing anything very obviously out of the ordinary, except for being the mafia boss and doing what mafia bosses do best, which was mafiaing. There seem to be two new up-and-coming gangs who want to displace the mafia, but information is incredibly scarce. One group seem to be based out of the docks in the east of town, and one group seem to be based in Grenebache in the west of town. Perhaps one of them know what happened to Higgs?

Albert: Read poetry by the game host.

The game host's poetry is just experimental poems consisting of variations of "this is the end" repeated over and over again, sometimes with different emphasis. It's a little unsettling.

Helen: Investigate where the body was found.
(LUCK: 7)

Alas, the rain has beaten Helen to the punch. On the other hand, between her and Dr Peyton, the team manages to find out that he has been dead a while - that is, he was killed before they arrived at the library.

Peri: Attempt the autopsy.
(ROLEPLAY ABILITY: 8)

Lacking not only utensils with which to perform an autopsy but also a body on which to perform an autopsy, Peri steels herself as she prepares to do what has surely never been done before: an auto-autopsy. She manages to determine that she is not deceased.

I mean, sure, why not. (will update you on the backlog when I have more time!)

Amethyst: Go for a walk.

Amethyst walks outside, walks left, walks right, and stumbles across a body, soaked wet by the rain.
"My gods..." she exclaims. "A body. Here! Under my own feet."
Danger rushes outside. "We need to flip them over. But they're so heavy."
They are joined by the rest of the team. Muscle Woman kneels down to the body. "I flip." she says. In one swift, fluid motion, Muscle Woman flips the body.
Dawn gasps. "Higgs!"
"But..." Camille wonders, astonished. "Higgs is the leader of the mafia!"

Helen: Search for clues.
(Roll for LUCK: 14)

Helen starts looking around the room for clues. She finds a key. "I found a key!" shouts Helen.
"Does it unlock the door?" Amethyst asks. Helen tries the key. "Nope!" "Curiouser and curiouser."
"It says 'Helen's key' on it." says Helen.
"Is it your key?"
"No."
Danger appears from nowhere. "Well then, this seems pretty obvious to me! Why would it be labelled as your key if it wasn't your key?"
"Maybe someone is trying to frame her?" suggests Hugo.
"Maybe it unlocks Helen's secrets." Camille wonders aloud.

Amethyst: Unlock the door.
(Roll for LUCK [15]: 16)

"If it's locked from the inside, we can also unlock it from the inside, right?" Amethyst turns the lock and opens the door. "Right."
"That was easy." says Danger. "Too easy..."
"I guess we can leave now?" asks Dawn. "But we should be wary: Someone tried to lock us in - so someone is still trying to sabotage us!" She shakes her fist. "We can never give up. Not until we've got revenge on those who wronged us: the mafia!"

Daniel sits back from the computer monitor. He didn't play the last game in this series, so he's still playing catch-up on the lore. He vaguely recalls something about a quest to defeat the mafia, though they keep coming back each game.

Peyton: Talk to the three NPCs. Try and find a leader.
(Roll for ROLEPLAY ABILITY [5]: 17)

"Hey, you." says Peyton to Dawn. "You."
"You're a dog. Why are you talking?" Dawn asks.
"Are you a leader?" Peyton asks, ignoring the slight.
"No. We don't have a leader."
"Do you want a leader?" Camille asks. "I'm pretty good at leading."
"What do you lead?" asks Danger. "I once lead a marching band. They called me... Danger In The Marching Band."
"Why did they call you that?"
"Because Danger... is my middle name."
"Isn't it your first name?"
"It is also my middle name."
"The dog should lead!" shouts Muscle Woman. Everyone is very intimidated by her muscles and agrees immediately. Peyton makes an unidentifiable facial expression.

Peri wonders what could be going through the mind of blockhead97. Muscle Woman is ridiculous! What a terrible character. And yet, alluring, in some unknowable way. This was better than the last game already. Maybe the mafia would lose this time!

Muscle Woman: Flex open a window.
(Roll for LUCK [15]: 20!)

The window shatters instantly. Air flows freely from the new hole in the wall. Freedom!
"The door was already open..." says Amethyst.
"Freedom!" shouts Muscle Window, beginning to climb through the window. Water begins to enter the room through the open window.

Blockead: Start a horse cult based on a forum game about horses.

Yes, horses! That's where it's at. That's where the cult worship should be going! Albert rushes to the window and opens it. "Wait, I thought this was superglued shut." he says. "Never mind. Horses." He sees someone passing by on the street. "Hey, you!" he shouts. "Spread the word: Horses are great!" The passerby listens to his words, and (RPA: 20!) lights up.

"Finally, someone agrees with me!" she cries. "Horses are the ultimate vessel for the gods! Praise be to the Great Horse!" She runs away to spread the word of the Great Horse. Albert nods. "Horse." The Cult of the Great Horse has begun.

For the record - I reserve the right to limit the number of actions or implement a turns system or whatever, but for now (while we're all finding our feet!) I'm just gonna do actions as they come.

Muscle: Intimidate other characters with incredible strength and ripped bod.

Muscle: Declare Dr Peyton group leader.

These two, though, I'm going to delegate to other people. Do you all feel intimidated? How do you feel about Dr Peyton taking the lead?

---

Albert: Search the internet for information on fellow players.

(Roll for LUCK [10]: 8)

Ah, the internet. The wires. The ol' tubes. It connected up the nations of the world. It had been used for great things. And now, Albert will use it to lurk social media. He starts with looking for Dr Peyton, who is both a dog and a fictional character in a forum RP. Not a great start. He finds nothing but an actual doctor three cities over named Dr Peyton. How could they make a dog a doctor? A doctor dog? He knew at least that there were those dog doctors, veterans, and they went out to war to help cure the war dogs. He looks up "war dogs". It looks like war dogs aren't used much any more, or ever. There used to be a lot of war horses. They seem to be quite big.

Hugo: Scale one of the tall tall bookcases, trying to find an open window to escape from.

(Roll for LUCK [15]: 12)

Alas, Hugo. The windows are superglued closed throughout the building, no doubt to protect the fragile books inside from the rain outside. It has been raining for the last two weeks, and was forecast to get even heavier over the next.

Hugo sighs, looking out the unopenable window. Over the other side of the street, he sees a bank. If only he could withdraw... his freedom.

Forum RP RP

You open up PoesieWut and head straight to "Your Updates", a section of the website that lists everything you've missed since you last logged on. You are delighted to find that the forum RP has updated! You quickly open the link.

"Welcome to Forum RP!" the host announces. "As you enter the library, the doors slam shut. Helen rushes to open it, but cannot — it's locked tight!

'Who could have done this?!' shouts Dawn.

'Evidently, nobody in here.' Camille retorts. 'Otherwise how could they lock the door?'

'How convenient.' says Hugo. '...Suspiciously convenient.'

'It's locked... from the inside.' says Amethyst.

Everyone gasps. 'It must be one of us!' shouts Muscle Woman.

All in all, there are 8 people trapped in the library:
1. Helen
2. Dawn
3. Camille
4. Hugo
5. Muscle Woman
6. Danger 'Danger' Robinson
7. Amethyst O'Neil
8. Sir Dr Peyton of Manningham

'That's not a people.' says Danger. 'That's a dog.'

Dr Peyton does not reply, clearly finding the insult extremely rude.

What do you do next? Do anything you like and talk to other characters. Bold actions that need a response from me. If you think that another character is out to get you, you can vote for them — but if anyone gets more than half of the votes at a time, they will be killed off!"

What do you do next? Do anything you like and talk to other characters. Bold actions that need a response from me. If there is a chance of failure, it will be assessed by rolling 1d20 and modifying the result based on your stat points.

Nyomi:can i rp as someone rping as a talking dog? a grizzled german shepard who's seen his share of crimes. probably won't make it to endgame, because the dog always dies.

You can, like, RP as anyone you want to, man. Don't let the man get you down. You want to RP a dog? You RP a dog, man.

fedoramoron:wait, i don't get it, is our "character" the roleplayer or the roleplayer's character?;;

The roleplayer. So you should describe a) who you are roleplaying, and b) who they are roleplaying. Bonus points if you roleplay your character creation.

The stat points, of course, are for you, the roleplayer. People don't have stat points in RPs on the PoesieWut Forums!

You can roleplay as yourself if you like. You could also roleplay as yourself, roleplaying as themselves.

Trav: I assume that the character you posted is the character you want to RP as, and not the character you want the character you're RPing as to RP as. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you want them to RP themselves that's okay too.

Forum RP RP

You are a member of the fantastic poetry website, PoesieWut. Well known for its high-quality poetry creation and hosting tools, it also has a forum.

One day, a signup thread appears for a new forum RP. It claims to be about murder, intrigue, and murder. This interests you: You've long been a fan of party games like Werewolf, and there's lots of murder, intrigue, and murder in games like that. You decide to join by adding your name to the list.

1. Nama - WombatJuggler 2/3/3/4 (Helen)
2. Amithea - Avery 2/0/3/7 (Hugo)
3. Paul - Albert Blockead 1/1/5/5 (Muscle Woman)
4. Trav - Daniel Mauven 2/3/2/5 (Amethyst O'Neil)
5. Nyomi - Peri Lexington 4/3/3/2 (Sir Dr Peyton of Manningham)

You also allocate 12 stat points between four categories: willpower (WIL), intelligence (INT), roleplay ability (RPA), and luck (LUK). You describe your character. You wait for other people to sign up.
