Um... all of the above? I guess. Sometimes front page, sometimes forum, sometimes clicking on the profile of someone who commented on my comic or someone else's comic... This is the InTeRnEt after all.

I really look forward to hearing/seeing you guys. I've spent so much time working out how to create digital art and put it online, I've totally missed out on the music side so far. What methods/software/sites do you use for putting your music out there?

That's my kind of question :D

Well, I recently entered the whole recording/producing aspect of music, but I've been able to get some prety good results.
This is a video of my first recording ever, a Crazy Train cover, using only a crappy laptop.

Back then I knew almost nothing about recording or editing, but here's what I did.

I used a 1/8 plug adapter to hook up my amp's line out to the computer's mic port.
Image
Then I just recorded using Audacity (free and really easy to understand)

It's a pretty basic method, and won't give you the best sound quality in the world, but it's a great way to learn when you're just starting in these things.

Of course there are way more methods for home recording, but require you to buy more equipment and know how to use it.
There's also ways you can get a better quality using my method, which involves micing the amp (instead of running the amp directly into the computer)

Again, Audacity is a really basic recording program, but has everything and a little more than what you would look for when starting.
Then we got the pro softwares, like Cakewalk, Pro Tools, etc.

About the distribution part, well, the Internet is a great way of distributing music. A simple Youtube video gave user "Funtwo" the chance to play along Joe Satriani

Of course now I know better ways to record, but if you would like to get started recording yourself, I'd suggest dowloading a backing track, and recording a cover yourself, it's a great way to learn.

This is actually exactly how I got started, except I ran the line out from a digital piano to my computer, and I used some Sony music editing software that came with my computer and is now obsolete.
This entire album was recorded using this method.

Nice to hear you got a website up, and that you're still drawing Transpose Operator. Definitely one of the best "serious" style comics I've seen on CF, if you don't mind my saying so. I will bookmark your site.

We actually do call ourselves Vancouverites. I will look into attending this. Believe it or not, I've never been to a comic-con.

EDIT: I don't recognize any of the featured artists, probably because I don't actually read comics (shh, don't tell anyone), but I should go anyway, if only to meet other artsy people and get introduced to cool shit.

I don't really have a lot of time or energy to promote my comic. I barely find the time to draw it these days. But I find two things that help me get readers are (1) posting a link to each new page on my Facebook profile and (2) making semi-regular comments in the forums here on CF. Basically, just letting people know that you exist and that you draw a comic, then giving them a direct hyperlink.

I did some Project Wonderful ads a while back but I'm not sure if that boosted my traffic much...mainly because I chose ad spaces that were free. But I hear that's a good way to go.

Look at that. I go away for a few months and now everyone is playing with blocks. It's like preschool all over again.

Interesting thoughts.

I have a friend who is in favour of total drug legalization, and I'm not so sure about that. Things like crystal meth and heroin are notorious for being dangerously addictive and potentially lethal. Also, I'm pretty sure excessive use of any psychoactive drug can potentially produce long-term mental illness, ie psychosis, in some individuals. But I like to exercise common sense and moderation. In my experience, drugs can be used as recreational and insightful tools, as long as you know what you're doing and you use your brain. I'm not really stoked about weed, mainly because I just feel kind of stupid when I'm on it, but the few times I've done shrooms have been some of the most insightful and amazing experiences of my life.

Having just come down off a mushroom high, I am curious as to the various opinions you all have on drugs and drug usage. I know my opinions on various issues surrounding drugs have altered quite a bit in the last decade. So what do you think? is it only good to do legal drugs and take prescription meds? Everything in moderation? No chemicals whatsoever?

I haven't been around much, and it's mostly just that my full-time job is getting me down and absorbing most of my energy. Also, a co-worker got me addicted to WoW (I know, I know), so there's a major time-drain. I was supposed to finish inking the next page of Bone Realm yesterday or the day before that, but I ended up spending much of my weekend tripping on psychotropic drugs. For real.

But the page is half-inked, so it should be up sometime this week.

Hi, everyone! =)

I use Trillian, which is a program that links other commonly used chat programs together. Great for lazy people like me who have several chat accounts but hate having to log on to them all separately. So you can reach me on any of these, but the MSN is the most reliable.

Uh... I think I do at least one really stupid thing every week. A significant portion of my time is spent suddenly recalling some stupid thing I did in the past, then smacking myself in the head and muttering swearwords. It won't be long now before I have full blown tourette's. Or something.

I dig decent stickperson comics. I'm not sure what Merely Mortal would be considered. Ballperson comic?

One of my friends made a "Fans of Bone Realm" group on FB, which I occasionally visit. Fans of Bone Realm. Might be better just to add me though... Micah Tardif.

That is a really cool engraving at the beginning of this thread. I don't know what it has to do with religious debate, but hey, it's cool.

And for what it's worth (probably not much) I'm an atheist. A strong atheist. I have reasons, but there really isn't much point in the debate, since most people generally just believe whatever they want to believe and use rational thought to fill in the cracks. Every religious debate in which I have ever been engaged has ended with all parties believing exactly the same thing they did before the debate began.

I think of the Crocodile Hunter ("Crikey, he's gonna bite me!"), marsupials, tracts of desert filled with psychotic wild dogs and rabbits, tall lanky blonde people who talk funny and dress halfway between a British elephant hunter and an American cowboy, the Great Barrier Reef, more marsupials, large knives, necklaces made of fangs, Mad Max, Dr. Chase from House, and the racist guy in Flight of the Conchords who says that Australians are all descended from British criminals and retarded monkeys.
