Oh yeah, the endless spin off threads idea. I hate that whenever someone wants to discuss something that is absolutely related but not exactly the same as the topic they have to make a new thread. When the mods get super strict about enforcing that, here, it feels stifling, the context is removed in the new thread, and people pretty much lose interest in talking about it.
It essentially kills the conversation and I don't see the benefit.
killersteak:This is the debate fascists want you to have. They'll be sitting there laughing under their little pointy white hoods while we tear each other apart over whether or not the one movement that opposes them should be able to oppose them.
The alt right is a violent group that is counting on centrists to debate this shit while the neo-cons build their group.
We talk, they prepare to physically stamp out the opposition and have admitted many many times that they are ready and willing to do so. I suspect a lot of the people who have the leisure to sit on the fence and "let them speak" are people who would be spared by a Nazi regime. Those of us who would not are forced to take an actual position.
@Ambrose - Of course you would show up to this one. And ah, yes, the two sides of the coin, Nazi vs. Communist, a totally correct and fair assessment. If you're not one, you're the other, they say!
I'm gonna keep this brief.
People protesting the advocation of inequality and oppression versus people protesting the inability to commit genocide are not equal things and you should not be even keel about it. PHANTOM ZONE'D.
@Defo - I don't agree with you on everything but I want to make this crystal clear: I could never understand what it is like to be in your shoes and I will never pretend to. Just know that I will fight anyone who tries to deny you your freedoms and pursuit of bliss. We did not choose to be born and we should not be discriminated against for decisions we did not make.
Good question. I say we can start by not saying "Hey it's just their opinion."
Don't sit by and let people say that either. Don't mince words. Don't let people talk about genocide as a political viewpoint.
If someone says they're going to shoot up a school and they announce it loudly and advertise it, they probably wouldn't be allowed to buy a gun. They'd probably get locked up.
If a group of people says they're going to eradicate human beings based on skin color, I think we should treat it similarly. This isn't just talk. This is people talking about an action that they want to take and it should not be allowed.
Ah, political correctness. The siren call of the conservatives - you do know they coined that term, right? Let's do something neat here and take any statement with the phrase "politically correct" and replace those two words with "consideration for others" and see how it sounds. I hate the term 'PC.'
What these people are doing is using 'politically correct' to try and paint the picture that "the libruls" are trying to thought-police the world. What is actually going on is we are shining a light on inequality and the privileged decide to interpret that as "them losing rights" when what is actually happening is the less fortunate are starting to get recognition and treatment that is approaching equality.
Of course this is my opinion of what's going on with the narrative on the right. It mobilizes them quite effectively.
@deer and Letter M - That's actually why I made this thread.
We have people who allow this kind of thing to go on because Alt-Right, KKK, Nazis etc. march the streets saying "Let's kill all the blacks, mexicans and muslims!" and when you try to rally against it there's some magical third position people take that says "Wait... let's hear them out."
I am saying, no, I am not going to hear them out. I believe you are part of the problem if you give them a platform.
I thought the message was pretty clear myself, Kelty and Torchy.
My foot is down and I'm tired of hearing people say "I disagree with their opinion."
"I believe coffee with creamer tastes better" is an opinion. "We should get rid of black people via a gentle genocide" is not an opinion. That is an invitation to racially motivated violence. All I'm doing here is stating my position, and I'm putting anyone who can comfortably sit on the fence about this shit on blast.
Alright so apparently we need context for condemning nazis and racists. Cool. This is pretty much exactly what I'm talking about.
Anyway, the car in question plowed into a group of people protesting the KKK/White Nationalist movement, killing one and injuring 19 others.
On the flip side the white nationalists took the the streets with torches (I won't be a better man and leave out the fact that they were literally wal-mart tiki torches) and a militia with assault weaponry and body armor with confederate flags and nazi armbands.
They were flying nazi flags, they were firing off nazi salutes, they chanted "Heil Trump", "One Nation, One People", "You will not replace us", "Blood and soil", etc. etc.
For the longest time when not-insane people called out this behavior as racist, nazi shit, we get called out and told that "calling them nazis is a bit extreme" or "you don't know that they're racist", etc. Well here we fucking are. Take a look. Go ahead and keep apologizing for them and welcome to my block list.
