Centcomm:simi-rigid flexible LCD bits held in a polymer layer there would be 3 of them ( the basic color guns ) and they could be on , off or mixed to give displays.. totals or other information..

Ah, but in that case, the surface on the card could change .. heck, it could probably run a small movie on it ...

Congratulations, you have (re-)invented the future smartphone. :)

Sheela:I just found it interesting, because we tend to make stuff like we see it off today ... who knows what we have tomorrow ?
Perhaps tomorrows cards will be penshaped, or small thumbdrives with a finger print scanner on the side ?

Sheela:Seeing as it's in the future, the cards would no longer have the need of raised letters, as they would no longer need the old paper compatibility.

Good ideas. If it will still be card shaped I believe that no outward signs of it will show: no raised numbers/letters no magnetic strip, no visible chip, no barcode (be it 2D or 3D etc.).

I believe the card will include a tiny chip that is not visible - something like an RFID-chip with encrypted access buried in the midst of the card and therefore not visible.

I dunno ... there's something to be said about a hardlink connection, because it's awfully hard to cheat with.
So I think there would still be a physical connector of some sort, even in the far future.
I also think we will be using cards for a long while, simply because they are cheap to make and fairly durable.
They are also easy to put in a pocket, and are big enough to put a nice piece of graphic on them, including fancy holograms and the likes.

Magnet stripes ? no way, heck they're already starting to disappear from cards in the western world.
The chip itself haven't been visible for a while on my cards.
Bar Codes ? What for ? It has a chip on it.
And the raised letters are only there for now, to provide backward compatibility, something not really needed most of the time, even by todays standards. I suspect those will be gone within a decade.

Centcomm:the card prop presented in the example has the "biometric" sensor built in to a nano sandwich of memory and processing sheet .. a literal smart card..

ooOoohh ... is it smart enough to talk to you ?

CentComm: You can use the add image button to link it.. currently when I try to see how it looks ( ie save the image ) it just comes up as a single pixel )

I tried that "Add image"-button but in the preview it just showed the link - let's try again ... and hope they show now...

I'm not sure if Google docs will allow you to post images directly.
I know Skydrive will allow you to, but dunno about Google docs.

Yeah, but ... ilayas is clearly much better at this game, than I am.
And I went with the earthrise, because Rose seemed to like the idea in the Datachasers comment section.

I actually had a bit of a think on this.

Seeing as it's in the future, the cards would no longer have the need of raised letters, as they would no longer need the old paper compatibility. So all they really need, would be a photo of the cardholder, the name, and their affiliation and citizen number. That way it could double as both social security card and bank account card.

Also, the card would be able to hold substantial information, such as medical conditions, finger prints for ID-codes, and retina scans for those who wants to double check the person is really who he/she claims to be. In short, the card should be able to transfer large amounts of data quickly, so a wide data buss could be useful.

Unfortunately, I'm really bad at making graphics ... so I ended up with this :

... sorry.
