I'd say depends on what you're basing it on. Some people DO NOT want you messing certain IPs or characters cause then they'll bitch about it the changes. Stories that take place in another universe usually work better. Like instead of making changes to luke skywalker and darth vader its best to create a new jedi and tell stories in that universe.
I think I became king of France and Hungary at one point just through sheer luck and marriages. Then my character died and the whole thing imploded into a ton of new kingdoms. I kinda just sat back and watched as the whole place burned down. I didn't understand how titles were passed down and how all the inheritance laws worked yet. Its soooo dense of a game. I'm a lot better at it now but I haven't played in a while.
Also impaling people on poles. lots and lots of impaled people.
Some of these movies are old and most of them are very good to excellent. I got swept up in the whole movies awards season and decided to watch whatever I can. A lot of these are available on netflix so if you have that feel free to watch.
10. Aladdin (disney+)
My least favorite movie on the list but still an OK film. For me these Disney live action films just don't hit the right spots like the original animated films do. The visuals are neat and its cool to see what stuff looks in real life but something about it feels very small instead of feeling like its in the sprawling world of Agrabah. The leads are pretty good, Jasmine in particular is great and Will Smith does a fine job. I like his take on the Genine with his small side plot but It doesn't come close to the OG Robbin Williams RIP. What suffers the most are all of the side characters, they are just not as entertaining. The animals characters are too real and the parrot doesn't "talk" anymore. Overall its OK. Neat visuals, Fun dances but the side characters are less entertaining then the original.
9. Inception (netflix)
This was on netfilx so I just tossed it on. I've seen it before and it still holds up. Its a story that dives into the weird way our dreams make sense to us and adding a dream caper to it. I love the clever mix of real on camera visuals with some bonkers CGI. Some of this stuff has yet to be matched. Dr. strange good try there buddy but no cigar. That hallway fight it still probably my single favorite scene in movies. To be honest the characters are just good to decent with only a few getting some character development. Leo is good and his whole back story is all twisted up into his past with the dream world. Overall great film would be higher if I haven't already seen it. Great action, great camerawork, greatest scene ever, crazy plot.
8. Klaus (netflix)
OK OK I was way too hyped on this film. People were saying it was a masterpiece and that they were adding it to their yearly christmas watch list. Its good and I love the animation style (it LOOKS AMAZING!) but its not a masterpiece people are saying. It is a fun story of how the legend of Santa Claus came to be and the setting is quite surprising. Its sorta the reverse Grinch story of a sleepy town that needs an outsider to come in and change it. Its fun for sure and the kids will love it but I was expecting UP levels of story telling and heartwarming I know too hyped. The main character is awesome and it was fun to see him grow as a person. I wasn't expecting him to be the main lead but it works and its good. Overall its a great film. Amazingly animated, fun characters and setting, don't expect UP style masterpiece.
7. Personal Life (netflix)
This is a drama with some dark humor thrown into it. M for mature. It not too dark of a film but it follows an older couple trying to get a kid and how they can't seem to make it work with failure in every way. There's family drama thrown in there when their niece moves in with them. The acting from Paul Giammati is fan freaking tastic, He absolutely kills it in every scene. It's also a very New York setting which I kind of enjoy. Overall a it's a great film, there are some dark moments and sadness but It's a great drama. Give it a shot.
6. I lost my body (netflix)
OK this movie is weird. It follows the story of a hand trying to get back to its owner. But it's more of the story of the owner and what his life was all about before he lost his hand. The crazy scenes of the hand is super entertaining with the little thing trying to make it all the way back without being seen. The sound design of this movie it pretty great and the main character is kinda a down on his luck kinda guy trying to figure out life and live a bit more spontaneously. Hes not a good guy though but I guess he's trying. Overall great film, funky film, sound design is on point and the final bit made my heart race a little. The hand is cool too.
5. Avengers Endgame (disney+)
Just rewatched it and its still a fun romp. Gunna cheat a little here and talk about watching it when it came out aswell since its such a new film. I watched it 3 times total so yeah I liked this movie. It probably made my heart race like no film has done in a while. I mean I kinda saw where everything was eventually going but it was still amazing to see all the little surprises play out. My big knock against it is that its pretty much required to watch the other films to get a good grasp of what its all about and why everything works so well. Another minor issue is black widow and how that character feels like she got shafted oh well. The action is so good and there are so many oh shit moments. My crowd went bonkers at that captain america scene and the jokes were well earned instead of little quips. Overall fantastic film, great way to end this era of marvel films, it has some amazing moments, action, comedy, and a beautiful finale to it.
This movie is sooooo good. For one reason alone and that is Joaquin Phoenix. Every single scene he is in is riveting. You just don't know whats gunna happen and he actually makes your skin crawl. I'd say he deserves best actor as he transformed into this version of joker. This movie is not without its flaws but wow joker is such a fine character. I think if they removed all the batman stuff it would make the film better for it. The framing of some scenes and great and the colors are nice and vibrant but also sickly and dark. would have to say that this movie should have cut out the last minute or so and it would have ended better. Overall loved the film, was expecting a botch job but it is great. Joaquin Phoenix alone is worth the watch.
This was a hype movie and it lived up to the hype for me. I love this film. Its wacky and crazy and you don't know whats gunna happen next. It is just so bizarre and the setting is great. I don't want to spoil anything but it is pretty much about two families and the difference between rich and poor and how one ends up leeching on to the other. The poor family is shown using cleverness and doing what they can to survive while the rich family is just going on trips and worried about art. It such a fun look and just a fun movie. There is a crazy twist and drama happens but it is still a fun movie where you the viewer gets more and more tense has this lie gets out of hand. It is a South Korean film so you are going to have to deal with subtitles. My one single knock against this film is the ending. if they chopped off that last scene it would be better.
2. The Irishman (netflix)
I love this film. Its great. Its long. Its Scorsese if Scorsese was given 3 hours and a half to make a Scorsese film. You take legends of the crime/mobster films and put them all into a movie together and have them act and interact with each other. Each of the 3 main characters are amazing and man are they old! This movie is all about that. Getting older and older as a mobster. It follows a truck driver turned mobster and how he is retelling his journey from start to finish. It intersects with the mob and Jimmy Hoffa and how a friendship changes throughout that journey. There are just a ton of little moments in this film. Most of it is just people talking and chewing up the scene. I love the acting and the wild characters. Robert De Niro is so reserved and thoughtful yet also a brutal dude. The ending is fantastic and this is almost like a send off to this mobster genre. Best final shot in any movie on this list. It just hits. Overall it's a fantastic movie with ACTING and just mostly people talking with mob violence here and there, also Joe Pesci.
1. Dolemite is my Name (netflix)
My favorite film on this list. Probably gunna be on my favorite list for a while. This is Eddie Murphy being as entertaining as I've ever seen Eddie Murphy be. It follows a down on his luck entertainer trying to make records and do comedy. He ends up getting a wild idea to play a character named Dolemite, a ridiculous over the top and often crude comedian. And through just non stop belief and will power he manages to become something. This is PURE ENTERTAINMENT. pretty much what movies should be. The character is so fun to watch and the situations so over the top but somehow it just works. There's a vulnerability and genuineness to him though and also a sense that everything can go wrong. You really end up rooting for this character to succeed. Plus he is funny as hell. I love this film and it came outta nowhere with no hype. Best movie go watch it, Eddie Murphy is amazing!
Thanks for reading my weird list of movies. This is just what I remembered off the top of my head. Also I just watched "Hell or High Water" but I forgot after I had already typed up most of this list. That movie is great. Whats your last 10?
I got a weird lucky tree and some ivy on my windows. I do want more. I had another but I suck and I think I drowned it ;_; Outside on my balcony I have a chive plant that provide me with yummy herbs and it some how just survives with me doing not much work.
