HapyCow:Oh man here's something you probably tried: oekaki! Are those still around? Haha that's how I learned how to do digital art. It was great, just a site that had a simple Japanese drawing program, it made a time lapse video on how you did it and then people commented. It was amazing.

I got lost reminiscing, what were we talking about?

I loved oekakis, that's where young Zan first found out there were things to draw in other than Paint xD memories...

Nyomi:I've complained about this before and I'll continue to complain about it until it stops existing: the "I was broken up with so it gives me justification for being a dick" trope. (See: Snape, Eridan, Ashfur, etc.)

Agreed, though the "justification" often seems to be more from fans than the series itself - doesn't mean it's still not annoying though! Just because it explains their behavior doesn't mean it justifies it.

I guess they can get away with it when they're "industry standards" - many people won't really have a choice but to pay up (or pirate) so they'll take that chance to get some more money... it's a pain.

Damn overpriced industry standards... (I say while drawing on my Wacom tablet)

Clip Studio also goes on sale all the time (I only paid 25$ or so for mine) so if you're willing to wait you can get some nice offers :D

Merged Doublepost:

As for free stuff there's Medibang Paint/Firealpaca (medibang is really just firealpaca with extra features so might as well get that one instead) which is alright but has very limited brush customization/standard brushes... I've also heard good things about Krita but I couldn't get it to work for me so can't speak for it myself

Overall I'd recommend programs that are more "art/drawing" than "photo editing"

I love doing my Clip Studio lines in vector - can resize/edit them more cleanly and easy to fix errors x3

I've been using Clip Studio Paint/Manga Studio for years now and love it (never liked Photoshop for drawing at all), can strongly recommend :D

I think it looks good! Doesn't really look "anime" to me BUT there's also nothing wrong with "anime" style at all so... I don't think you should worry about that!

Yeah, I've been wanting either levels of flags or custom descriptions for a long time. Especially with stuff like the S tag - is it there for just the occasional dirty jokes or some mildly suggestive scenes, or is it full-on sex scenes? (Which, of course, would most often be matched with N tag, but sometimes N just means non-sexual and/or "mild" nudity too... and on the other hand a comic without N could hypothetically have very explicit descriptions of sexual stuff without actually showing any visual nudity) I don't wanna avoid comics just because they MIGHT contain something over my "comfort levels" when it's really way milder than that.

Epiale:
And it might encourage some people to actually tag things that need to be tagged if they're allowed to specify just how bad a thing is.

Yeah, for a similar example, I um... admit I haven't actually tagged some of my comic pages on Tapastic (which just gives you a NSFW flag to use without even specifying what "NSFW" means in each case) when they actually should, by site rules, have be tagged for using swears. Thing is, I worry NSFW will give the wrong idea (especially since the term "NSFW" is usually associated with nudity/porn) and it would be better if I could just tag specifically for language. Don't want people avoiding it thinking it's gonna be nudity or gore when it's just one instance of a swear word.

A custom "Other" tag for various content warnings that doesn't fit into the other categories is also a good idea!

I mean, it's ok if events, character dynamics ect change throughout the comic (and sometimes would be recommended to do) and if there's some kind of continuity in the world, but more in terms of suddenly having to read the entire thing from start to finish instead of just starting from what page/short story you want.

One thing that would turn me off would probably be if a comic STARTED as a gag comic BUT later on turned longform for the whole rest of the comic - that's not what I'm here for! Shorter stories now and then are fine (I do those myself too) and might even be recommended a times but having the whole rest of the comic be one long story... no thanks.

I'll also admit I'm not the biggest fan of 3D comics in general - which has a lot to do with using a "realistic" style and the same base models across comics. I like seeing different artstyles and generally prefer more "cartoony" styles - I'd be more willing to read a 3D comic where the creator used more stylized character models - preferably their own though I know this would be much harder to put together if you had to model every character and everything else from scratch. I generally don't go for "realistic" style 2D comics either - and of course there are comics and stories that work better with this as opposed to a more stylized/cartoony one, but those stories also often happens to not be what I'm looking for.

Yeah, again, this is one of those times where it would be nice to have "levels" of flags and/or an option to add your own description for it.

Though if a comic has S flag and not N, I'm kinda expecting there won't be any nudity or explicit sex, just references/suggestions/jokes.

1. Think of a game company I wanna make a character for
2. Get ideas about what I want them to be like, look like ect. Say, getting ideas about their personality from reading interviews from employees and hearing about the company culture, looking at iconic characters/series from their games and basing their design, skills ect. around that ect. Sometimes I do this part first when reading something about a company and think "hey, my character for them would be like this..."
3. Just put everything together as a character

Moe Anthropomorphism and Affectionate Parody is more or less what my comic runs on

But yeah made my own page years ago and most (not all!) of the updates are my own because I'm shameless like that
