...'kay....here! I did this when I was workin' for the fine folks at TSR, the Dungeons & Dragons people....told it was too gory...I told'em to fuck off and die.

My freelancin' career is spotty and tricky, at best.

War without gore? War is dirty. War kills people. War's a mess.

you can't make an omelette - well what in gods name are we fighting for?
Eggs Benedict?

I pity them.

In a nutshell, the relationship is best defined by the time I was told that one of the main characters would be dying later, so when I had time, draw up a rad way for him to go.

So I drew him getting shot in the eye.

I got an email back with the image attached again and in the body, it just said, "No."

Reminds me of this one mural from the 19th century I saw of a battle where everybody was either dead or in the process of dying. But there wasn't any blood and everybody wore perfect, sparkling armor and wielded clean swords. The only explanation: both sides died of a synchronized heart attack. Even the horses.

I have no opinion on gore in war depictions what so ever. I can only ask what kind of madman takes a lot of time to draw a disemboweled, eviscerated, headless man with blood caked on the ground?

Da Vinci drew from corpses. Extensively.
