Is this flashy, animated, distracting banner too flashy and animated and distracting? (To use it as the title banner for a comic site, I mean.)

It's here because apparently I can't post it on the forums

I think it is, I'm pretty much looking for confirmation.

I'd find it annoying. Anything that moves when I'm trying to read is annoying.

I like the idea of it, and it does look cool. The animation is smooth as well, but yeah, maybe a bit too flashy, perhaps you could cut how long it plays down a bit.
It serves it's function though; grabbing the attention of the readers

It's cute, and pretty non-invasive. And it draws you in... you gotta know what it finds. But I think the 'Searching' length could be cut down.

Not a big fan of animated banners in general, it is cool though. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too bad on your page either, it's not like the banner is on screen for long when your reading anyway!

I love it :D

... I often dislike or even upright hate animated banners or avatars, because of their distracting or "nervous" nature, but this one has only smooth motions, it feels pleasant and on top it's very cute too. Nothing blinky or flashy, no sudden changes.

e: when right next to a comic page though, it may distract from reading. If that is where you want to put it, then maybe just have the animation show once instead of in a loop?

I just visited your comic site. This banner totally fits. It's well done, too (banner and comic both!).

When the animation first started, I was expecting an old-school game of Asteroids. heh

Great but maybe on its third cycle it could be different?

It's neither invasive or flashy so it's great though the motion might effect reading for some people so need to pay attention to page layout. If it's at the top then people can just scroll down a little before reading if it annoys them.

I like it! It gives off a very calm vibe rather than being obnoxiously flashy, actually.

I felt some motion sickness from watching it. I'd argue that it pans too quickly.

It's not as bad as most animated avs are. It's not too rapid or flashy.
I would avoid animated avs for your comic though.

Thank you all! Haha, now I'm even more torn than before...

Timelapse11:perhaps you could cut how long it plays down a bit.

PeterVonBrown:But I think the 'Searching' length could be cut down.

That's a good idea; it's too long anyways, it gets boring quickly.

Miaubol:maybe just have the animation show once instead of in a loop?

Not looping it sounded good at first too, but... I'd guess the image gets reloaded every time you refresh the page, so whenever you click on next comic you'll land on top of the page and see the animation again. Not a lot gained then, since that's the moment you'll see the banner, before scrolling down to read the comic.

Steven Thomas Rouse:It's well done, too (banner and comic both!).

Thanks :) And welcome to the forums!

Reaper Dragon:Great but maybe on its third cycle it could be different?

This would be interesting, but I wouldn't do it on a banner because at that point the reader would really be paying more attention to the banner than to the actual comic xD

Tibbittz:I felt some motion sickness from watching it. I'd argue that it pans too quickly.

And this is not good at all. I need to slow it down, then.

So... since some of you have mentioned too that you don't really like animated banners, I guess it'll be more sensible to play it safe and use a static banner instead. I'll try to remake this one with all this advice, though, and upload it somewhere else on the site where it won't bother people while reading. Thank you all very much again! :D

If you rework it a bit with the timing, this would make a nice advertising banner.

Looks unique and overall great to me.

PS: I didn't know you could create animated SVG images until now. Well done!

I like it , does this site allow gifs? I could however see some people finding it distracting or even disorienting. id say try it out and see if you get any complaints after that

Thank you too, guys!

RJDG14:I didn't know you could create animated SVG images until now. Well done!

Yes you can! I only found out recently, and I'm fascinated by it :D

Sovember:does this site allow gifs?

This is actually a svg (which is even worse in terms of sites allowing it). But yes, this site allows gifs! This site allows friggin' everything. Bless ComicFury xD

Nicely done, but I think the logo should be front & center for at least as long as the side-scrolling duration, preferably twice as long for a nice Pythagorean ratio.
