Thanks for bringing it to my attention >_> I had no idea. Well, that really sucks for the smaller pledges I have spread out across creators I support. -_-a It'd be nice to at least have the option to have creators continue to take the fee on.

From what I can tell, it's a way for Patreon to make more money on smaller pledges, and taking it out on the front end to make it seem like their users are getting more profit, but I'm no expert.

I only have one pledge, and it's like $9. plus I don't put in the time to Patreon to make it work, so on a personal level, I don't really care. I made one because all the cool kids were doing it, but I can barely keep up with making comic strips on a regular basis, much less make "extras" for incentives on Patreon.

For others it really works, and for most of them, it works with many small pledges that add up. And It seems most people are upset that their patrons are being dinged for this.

It's clear that Patron would rather extract a fee for every bid than once per creator. I don't see that changing, but they do have competition on the horizon, so who knows.

Just curious, what competition are you referring to? I thought Ratafire.com seemed like a good alternative because they supposedly help you build a fanbase, but I dunno.

They don't have direct competition yet, But Ko-fi is growing, and Paypal's donate button is always an alternative.

There's also Flattr, Tipeee and Drip

It doesn't effect me because I don't use Patreon at all.

Since we don't need more than one thread for this I'll close this one.
