My family always watch the Silvesterstadl on German tv every year, so I'm pleased to see that 36-minutes-until-New-Year was heralded in Germany by Bonnie Tyler singing her lungs out.

I saw a 30 second clip of Hong Kong's celebration and the sountrack contained some really naff/entertaining music that sounded like something typical of a Europop artist from the 90s. Do they still play this kind of stuff at new year celebrations in Germany (since I'm aware that kind of music was/is very popular there), or have you gone along with Britain/America and now regard Europop as outdated? Not that I'm condemning Europop lovers in any way; I was just genuinely wondering since I haven't heard much of the stuff in Britain for the last 5-10 years.

Example of what I regard Europop to be: Eeeyyy, eet's Dee-Gjay Otzi in der 'aus, coming at yeer weeth some fiyn musik!

Or perhaps you guys have a really good New Year's soundtrack - some of the 70s Krautrock was years ahead of native English-speaking artists, and I know Germany also has a good indie scene.

Anyway, happy 2018.

Have you heard, that whatever you are doing on a night from previous year to next past midnight, is something you will do whole next year?...

I'm sure someone actually from Germany could answer this far better than I do, but the big New Year's live music event is a mixture of a few 'current' things (it began with a cover of Despacito)and lots and lots of Schlager music, which is very peppy, cheesy, easy to sing along to and completely devoid of irony.

From what I've seen online older generations lament that there's too much "English music" creeping in, and younger generations roll their eyes a bit at Schlager. It is good music for partying to, though. So many conga lines.

(Ten minutes to 2018 here!)

Yeah, but ok.
Did you kiss an alien?
If you're in the future and so advanced, you NEED TO MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE ALIENS!
I'm sorry Kyo, but if Germans and Austrians can kiss Krampus and be friends with him, you can do better!!

JuicyGrey:Have you heard, that whatever you are doing on a night from previous year to next past midnight, is something you will do whole next year?...

Oh man my dad kept trolling us with this yesterday. He even extended the definition to "whatever you do this whole day, you'll do next year". Then he warned us about not spending all day on the toilet... I spent most of the day working on my story, though. But that's not surprising. We're pretty much one and the same by now.

Edit: 108th post! Way to start the year.
