Hi I'm still drowning in work but popping in to drop this bombshell news:

https://www.projectwonderful.com/thanks.php

That's...a thing. I'm currently only using PW on Archive Binge since I decided I didn't like advertising on my comic, but DANG. Pretty bummed since I don't wanna use an invasive ad service :/ Fortunately the SJ admin's making bid.glass but it's still in development and might not have the infrastructure to support what PW did but WE'LL SEE.

I understand why given the state of the internet, but it's still shocking. There aren't any comparable services that I know of.

I never made any money on there. I guess they weren't making any either.

To the people asking about an alternative, I'm currently trying out ads on bid.glass. It's limited to SJ at the moment (since it's being developed by SJ's admin) but it'll eventually be opened up to other publishers.

Whew, okay. Guess I'll just have to wait a little longer.

Keep us updated and let us know how it goes!

So how will we support Comic Fury now if we can't buy ads? Will CF have it's own internal service or will Donations start up again?

Yeah this is really sad news /:
I don’t feel comfortable with super invasive or super personalized ads, so I’m really hoping another alternative comes up. Respheal, please let us know how that alternative works for you!

I put up a couple of banners for Storm over Whoomera on Archive Binge. Didn't seem to get any new readers, but it was a little bit of an ego boost to see the bids winning occasionally.

i'm not too faffed about it. I was kinda planning on starting a patreon in a couple months or so anyway, but I'm looking to finish the site recode before I focus on anything like that (almost done now actually).

e: i might just turn the voluntary ads into an ad for CF itself or somethin'

This is a scary thought, but how is this going to affect a lot of other webcomics and webcomic hosting sites? Project Wonderful was popular everywhere so... what's everyone going to turn to now?

I like the Idea for Internal CF Ads.
Maybe it can randomly select between a random CF Comic & an Ad for CF itself.
Or run 2 Ads, 1 for CF, & the other for its comics.
I would volunteer space either way.

I also like Kyo's Idea For a Patron.
(Sorry don't Think I can donate this year, but next year should be better)

I also here Ko-Fi is good for donations
People can just drop you a few bucks, when ever they can, Instead of automatically every month.
Alos Ko-Fi wont take a cut from your money, (Only PayPal will.)
It might be good to run both, since different people might prefer either or.

Kyo, I wish you the best of luck, & Thank you for making such a Great Site!

Well good to know you've got something planned.

Then again, you wouldn't have responded if you were curled up in a corner sobbing, would oyu?

Initial indications are that the "independents" are going to badly suffer.

This sucks a big ol' bag of wieners

I don't make anything money-wise off Project Wonderful, but it is how I do 90% of my advertising. There's plenty of alternatives, but their cost is geared more toward companies, and... uh... other people with money. Like, plugging for a dollar a click is insane when I can pull 50 to 100 hits for a dollar on PW.

Which I guess could be why they're going under, the fact that they're affordable for broke people.

Their e-mail had me in a legit panic, though, because now I'm scrambling for new ways to grow my audience on a budget. Marketing's hard when you're not a corporation, and Project Wonderful's been my easy answer on a lot of projects, not just webcomics.
