I received an email today stating that my SwordCat Princess Patreon page has been suspended. No reason was given in the generic form email. I had to log in to find a contact email for Patreon Support so I could politely ask them (in the words of the great Bob Dylan) "What? And for why?"
I genuinely thought I was working within all their guidelines. This might be the beginning of the end*. I do SO try to play well with others, but we always seem to end up circling the muck-encrusted drains of bitterness and mistrust... pity.
Has Patreon suspension happened to anyone else here -- or am I a singular, truly EPIC level of badass which you law-abiding lot can only merely cower in the presence of?
(*The end of the Patreon page; the comic will return with new pages by, let's say, July 20th.)
Might not have been anything you done that you haven't done before. Patreon have become very skittish lately. They're also hooking up with Facebook and Twitter to trawl through people's feeds in some sick twisted partnership looking for things that they don't like. I don't know if you're on them or not. Just something to keep in mind as it mightn't have had anything to do with your Patreon page at all.
Best case scenario it was a mistake and you get your page back. Worst case scenario they tell you what you did wrong and aren't alowed on the site again. Extra worse case scenario, you get a boiler plate response, never discover what it is that you did... then aren't alowed on the site again.
Yeah dude a ton of people I follow on twitter had their accounts suspended for slightly nsfw content in the header image, or if there was nsfw content in any of their public posts. Go through and fix that and you should be allowed back on the site.
We restrict some types of content and rewards. You cannot:
Create any content or rewards with real people engaging in sexual or violent acts. Create any content or reward with nudity, or realistic depictions of sexual or violent acts, unless you flag the page as Adult Content and make the posts only viewable by patrons.
Leafa:Mine just got suspended pending review... I can't wait to find out why because I can't think of anything on there that's remotely NSFW!
I mean seriously, wtf?
I know that for a lot of websites, they reserve the right to suspend/ban you and their rules clearly say that they don't have to give a reason. I ran a MUSH for a while. I know why this is: because it will lead them to endless fights and arguments and so on. But I've always felt that if you don't give people a reason why, then no one can learn and this all just keeps on happening.
Well, Im pretty sure Patreon doesn't want to stop hosting NSFW stuff... they make waaaaaaay too much money off that. Overactive AI scanners are a problem among many services lately though and I wonder if it's all the same architecture... anyway I expect this will get sorted out.
I expect this is to do with SESTA. There are a lot of sex workers who use Patreon as part of their business. Patreon does not want to become the next Backpage, they want to avoid being shut down, so I imagine that the crackdown on anything even tangentially related to pornography is because of that.
Draconian government measures aside, that doesn't excuse them, as a company, from not explaining what is going on to their customers, or providing accurate guidelines about what is and isn't allowed.
I am lucky (hmmmm -_-) enough not to actually have any patrons (DESPITE OFFERING GREAT REWARDS COUGH COUGH), but there are some people who follow the page for the occasional free content so I'd rather it can't just be pulled out from under me.
