First Cathedral, Caumifurt

On patrician sands under a statue of Justice a young lawyer prosecutes war crimes. The evidence is irrefutable; the witnesses, many. Her opponent has politics and a technicality. The eyes of the world watch.

In time, a judge interrupts the lawyer. The court will not be victimized by wordplay. The defense objects and is overruled. For the first time in history, the King is officially a citizen. His defense falls apart. There is only one possible verdict.

Four hundred years and dozens of wars later, this history has been forgotten. We now find ourselves... in the present.

Oh Who Would Ever Want to be King?
The Unauthorized Spiritual Successor to the Unexpected Sequel

Welcome to the world of Caumifurt. As the king, president, mayor, high priestess, and/or moderator of one of the world's nations, your decisions will shape the future of Caumifurt - for better of for worse.

Here's how it works. You make up a nation! And then you lead it. A round ends once everyone's submitted their actions, or 48 hours after 75% of players, rounded down, have submitted their actions. Actions are just English prose, and will generally succeed unless you're trying something unusually difficult, try to do too many things at once, are having a serious morale problem, or have been sabotaged. Build up your infrastructure, throw ice cream socials for your citizens, invent the Internet, recruit assistant leaders, declare war, declare a state religion, sponsor an anime, declare a state anime, host a religious festival, set up international airship travel, or drown your enemies in submarines - it's all up to you. Actions may also be made in secret; just say you're taking a secret action, and then PM me the details. You can also declare "standing orders" - an action which happens later if some specified condition is met - and standing orders may also be secret. This can be used to set a defensive trap during a war, for example.

Alternatively, you can decide to start as an assistant leader. If you want to work with another player (cough Seacannon cough), let me know and we can work something out. Assistant leaders can also be recruited after the game starts. As an assistant, you get one action per turn. Note that nothing stops an assistant leader from defecting, starting a coup, or assassinating their regular leader. (Oh, yes, leaders can die.)

The intended mood is "dramatic whimsy": some level of surrealism, weird science, and magic realism is expected, but events will be treated seriously within that context. Keep this in mind when designing your nation and ruler. There is a bit of a meta-plot, but don't expect it to take over the game.

Applications are not first-come-first-served. I want people to have the freedom to put some thought into their nations. I'd recommend at least three paragraphs on your nation and one on your leader. Some areas to touch on are geography, natural resources, history, culture, government structure, religion, physical appearance, clothing, traditions, industry, cuisine... We're a forum full of webcomic authors; we know how to worldbuild. That said, help each other out, and don't be afraid to reach out to me if you want my opinion of a concept! Make sure to include your character's name and title. Conventionally, the character's name is based on your username.

I will be accepting up to five leaders (assistant leaders do not count against this limit). Applications will close one week after the fifth submission is posted.

If I am referring to myself in the third person, you may as well refer to yourself in the second person.

Please consider this the sign of my interest while I figure out what sort of state system I'll present.

Oh heck here is some bullshit
Hey, write what you know, am I right

The Kingdom of Dhammaracarya has officially existed in some form or another along the Luridam Straits for a couple of centuries. Or so the official government stance claims, because this is what states tend to do with their history, claiming a large part of past heritage for their own uses.

It is however, true that Dhammaracarya has inherited the power of the past empires that were situated along this especially profitable and fertile landscape. The kingdom's location by the Luridam Straits offer it protection from the stormy elements, making it destined to be a safe harbour and as such laying the foundation of its maritime empire. However, this protection is not absolute - for all the protection of the Straits, the previous empires in the region fell prey to various cataclysms, such as the the Frog Plague (it was a very big frog) and a couple of small landslides following an earthquake. These past empires never truly recovered, especially due to the insomnia induced by the Frog constantly croaking at godforsaken hours in the early morning.

Dhammaracarya as such, like its predecessors, is a maritime kingdom with an economical focus on trading and its monopoly on spices especially on its production of soma and rockdust. However, it has recently pursued programs focusing on tourism and technology in an effort to diversify its economy and because the seas are getting quite crowded nowadays. The waters of the Luridam Straits is much hallowed, although the effort to improve the country's economy has left it slightly undesirable. Nevertheless, the beaches of Dhammaracarya are an important part of its tourist sector.

Other sights of Dhammaracarya include: the mountain of Tahibesar (which the government is currently running a campaign to change the name of), its forests, the ruins of past empires and the remnants of the colonial era. Also Kuala Thep. And a host of other things I can't be bothered to name leave me alone.

While nominally a kingdom, its politcal structure is more akin to a federation with a constitutional monarchy. Its head of state is nominally the Tun Raja, a hereditary position of which its current office holder is Her Serene Majesty Tun Raja Mariam Hexen Menara Binti Dayusinaratbhum-Roth; true political power lies in the democratically elected government which is led by the Prime Minister Xi'anTradayanasom. However, the Tun Raja has also become a strong voice for peace and unity within the country. She has also opened up parts of her residence, the Istana Dai to encourage tourism and is a fierce patron of the arts. The Prime Minister on the other hand is seeking ways to encourage the economy and emphasise the Kingdom's place and sovereignty in the international sphere, with him pursuing building projects such as the recent building project of Kuala Thep as part of the new administrative capital and local silicon valley.

While the region of Dhammaracarya was initially controlled by powerful empires using weird ancient technology (or magic as some crackpots have said), as of recent contemporary history has just broke free from its colonial rulers which had effectively been controlling the region for a couple of centuries. While not under direct rule, it was heavily under the influence of stronger powers, though maintaining an image of independence which was as blatantly fake as Samarat Tumanak (a very infamous local actor known for his terrible acting; despite this, his movies are popular). However, the Righteous Revolution of 1278 overthrew the then-puppet government in favour of an initially dictatorial system which soon ameliorated to something more approaching to democracy. However, some institutions of the colonial past still remain, such as the division of Dhammaracaya's ten provinces and two federally administrated territories, and the choice of calendar and seven day week.

Life around Dhammaracarya has mostly revolved around the sea and as such the Soggy Queen Mother of the East is a popular figure in grassroots religion. She is invoked in a variety of roles and under a variety of names, such as the Yaaass Queen Who Grants Any Wish, although, according to the mediums, that particular name is reported to be not very effective because she will apparently take some time to dress up before attending to the devotee. Another popular maritime deity is the Horse Ancestor, a deified shaman. However, despite the popularity of those figures, people in Dhammaracarya are free to worship any god they please, although the government does keep an eye on what it terms to be cults, such as the recent outbreak on Nether-Reminism in the cities of the northwest border and the Church of the Frog. Other popular religions involve the Circle, and the pantheon headed by Samala that has a strong presence in the island provinces of Sanidumi and Mardaraya.

Prime Minister Inkompetentia reporting to serve the people of the small coastal port of Santa Fiasco. We are a humble people with a rich history. Just like many other countries back in the day, from a buildup of oppression and mistreatment and terrible cafeteria food, a rebellion was born to break Santa Fiasco from its colonial roots, and return its people to the lives of simpletons. Led by local legend and pizzegg chef, Don Ignoramus II, we established ourselves as an independent city-state, specialising in the production of large crops of sugar-substitute candy corn.

Our national identity is very much based about this crop, and the local religions rooted in indigenous animism have syncretised with those of the Remnist Missions and the superstition surrounding Steviacorn to create the hybrid Order of the Caramel Corn, lead by high priestess and de-facto leader of the country, Imbess Sill III. I, as Prime Minister, however, am the figurehead of this great land, and while my power is arguably limited by the superseding rules of the OotCC, I'm still technically in charge so take that, Sill!

Like I said before, Santa Fiasco is a city state, but it's more spread out than typical. We have about five main quarters of the city, depending on who you ask, but I mostly just care about the Upper Crust, where me and all the other Level 1 citizens dwell. The others are like farmers and shit. Level 4-6 citizens. Maybe even some Level 7s. But yeah, everything seems to be going fine here. A few attempts at further rebellion here and there, but we've mostly just tried to channel those feelings into Legball games. They're hugely popular here, and we even use them as a method of voting too sometimes. We like to send out Good Vibes to the angry citizens as well. Good Vibes all around.

As for me, I come from humble beginnings. Like many other Santa Fiascans, I washed ashore mid-Duodecember during Monlate Season (which is like Monsoon season but it happens later rather than sooner) with no memory of my life before. A Fiascan Monk (named Steve I think) brought me into his home and fed me various Splendacorn dishes before he started getting kinda creepy and well, I'd rather not go into that. In any case, I'm glad I've somehow managed to avoid him since then. Things kinda just snowballed from there. You work at a few soup kitchens and go on a few rants in public about how much better things could be, and people start to get behind you. The OotCC and I have gotten into a few bloody good rows, but it's all good fun. So yeah, I'm currently just kinda leading this country and also just looking for someone cute to cuddle so y'know.

Nation: Sol Cursia
Capital: Crysanthemus
Leader: Prime Archon Jadeille von Joule
Official Religion: Daughters of Hyacinth
Official Language: Hykantonese
Government: Matriarchal Ecclesiocracy
Nation’s Motto: “Shine as the stars, so as to lift darkness from the eyes of the Fallen.”

Post structure: TLDR; Followed by enhanced descriptors

Three major biomes cover the land that Sol Cursia claims as its own. First is the thick, twisted jungle, which acts as a deterrent for many who would wish to enter the country. The trees within the jungles emanate a dark mist, which, if inhaled, can be lethal. Secondly, large swaths of swamplands cover much of the arable land, and most agricultural goods are developed within these swamps. Thirdly, a desert of black sand and stone surrounds a huge crater. At the bottom of the crater sits a massive purple crystal that pulsates with a dim light. This crystal is central to the culture and history of Sol Cursia, and bears the name Hyacinth.

Within the boundaries of the crater sits the sprawl of the capital city, Crysanthemus. While the area near the crystal is a tightly packed metropolis, tendrils of civilization spread out to the upper edges of the crater. Outside of the crater, cities and villages tend to be smaller, and centralized around pockets of resources. All cities carry a shard of Hyacinth, which powers any machinery or technology they have. Most citizens of Sol Cursia follow the ideals of the Daughters of Hyacinth, and those who do not would be wise to act as if they do. This religion values light in all things, though the details of that can be hazy. Many leaders within the religion have control within the government, though it is not run by the church.

The native peoples of the land are known as Starborn, and are different from regular folk in many ways. They are immune to the effects of the forest’s mist, and tend to be built a little larger in muscle mass and height. They also have fairly large hands and feet, and have between 0 and 4 small gray-black horns that protrude from their forehead. However, they tend to be hurt more easily, and it takes longer for their bodies to heal. Their skin has a lilac tint to to it, and their eyes have silver, light purple, or ice blue irises. Their hair tends towards shades of dark blue or black. If a regular person were to mate with a Starborn, the majority of their offspring’s features would be inherited from the regular parent, but the eyes would be as a Starborn and they would retain the immunity to the forests mist. These features would persist for up to 3 generations, after which the genepool would become too diluted and all outwardly physical traits would cease to show. Only Starborn and 1st generation Halfstars are allowed to take a position within the government of Sol Cursia.

The current leader of Sol Cursia is Prime Archon Jadeille von Joule, a 46 year old Starborn with silver eyes and pitch black hair that she always wears in a long ponytail with crystal adornments. She stands at 6’7” and cuts an imposing figure wearing the traditional robes of an Archon of the Daughters of Hyacinth. Her tone is severe, her policies are forceful, and her justice is swift. She has 2 daughters (Zhanna and Myri) and a husband (Khris), but, if she were to lose the throne through death or otherwise, one of the 7 Archons would take the throne. She only recently earned her place, as the previous Prime Archon had their rule cut short by an unfortunate accident while travelling abroad.

hey, kids, just dropping a small hint of what's to come from me, and also bumping the thread, 'cuz i wanna read some COOL STUFF from y'all

image

here's the name of the nation i'm working on, in its language! with some basic effort and knowing where to look you can figure out how to pronounce that. (hint: google won't help you) i'm not gonna say much yet, but it's a nation of fish people! vaguely insectish, humanoid fish people. originally inspired by sushi.

i'll be back!

*Kicks down the door to the oval office*

Dojyaaaaaaaaan

Nation: USA
Capital: Texas
Leader: Me
Main Religion: Majority religion of the people is Christianity but we try to be secular.
Government: "Democratic-Republic"

I represent the United States and let me tell you all about my damn country. We are a democratic-republic with a bicameral system, but since the House and the Senate are supportive of my pursuits, it's merely cosmetic.

I am the 92nd President of the United States. We are a free nation that is open to whatever whimsical crud that is outside our borders. Our principles are represented under the Bill of Rights and Constitution which I will be ignoring for most of the game.

Our country was founded by a group of pilgrims from space who wanted to abandon their mistreatment from their home country. Since then, they have formed a sizeable colonial plot of land through hard work, determination, expansion, war, a bit of unpopular decision making in retrospect, and luck.

We love hamburgers, peaceful relations, and guns. We are a more simple nation. Our technology is reliant on modern day sciences that allow us to engineer appliances, tools, brick buildings, cell phones, and weapons of mass destruction. If you live in America, you know how we roll. There's very little to explain.

Our country's geography are as follows. From bottom to top, it's hot to cold and rocky to plain. The far left and right sides are more coastal areas while the very center of the country are previously plots of indigenous lands that we are cultivating ourselves. We use every natural resource available to our advantage. The cutting edge of fashion ranges from cowboy attire, to some Hot Topic garbage, to suits and ties. You're free to dress how you want.

We also scoff at magic because we civilized Americans know science! And capitalism. You know, America.

*Reclines on chair*

Let's get this party started.
