Hey everyone,

As promised, I've come up with a little tool to help people moving here from smackjeeves take their templates with them. Please only use this tool on templates you have permission to use, I'm sure the smackjeeves staff wouldn't be thrilled if you used a converted smackjeeves default layout on your comicfury comics.

So obviously because of differences between the two template engines, this tool isn't perfect in its conversion process, but I was actually able to get remarkably close. If you don't use the blog/news feature at all, you should be able to get away with minimal editing. Otherwise, it still shouldn't be too bad, definitely much better than starting from scratch.

The tool is here

It will generate a comicfury layout backup file, which you can import when editing your layout (there's instructions on the page linked above). Make sure to remember to rehost any files in your layout hosted at smackjeeves!

If you run into any problems, let me know. I tested it on a few different layouts, and it seems to perform pretty well, but obviously I'm not an expert when it comes to the intricacies of SmackJeeves' template system. If there's anything you think it should be able to translate but doesn't seem to, let me know as well.

Enjoy!

e: several bug fixes have been made over the last few days. If you imported a layout previously, and you haven't edited it at all yet, it might be a good idea to re-import it to fix some potential minor issues.

you're amazing. ;u;
all my work was able to be brought over with very minor issues despite all my custom code shuffled in everywhere. the news page didint cross over for me, but i can fix that later.
my other issue is i had my archives show little preview thumbnails if you hovered over the page numbers, but now only shows a mini white box next to the cursor. the closest ive got into looking for a fix is possibly rigging srunk versions and linking them to show, but i really rather avoid going through shrinking 200 pages. We don't currently have a thumbnail feature like that, so I'm afraid there's no easy replacement for that preview right now, sorry.

e: oh yeah and one thing worth noting - our equivalent of the "News / Welcome Page" is called "Overview", and it will only show up if that's what you select for your webcomic front page (which you can change in your webcomic settings)

I just tested it and it works perfectly, thank you for this! :D Waiting for a reply from the creator of my layout before I can put it to proper use though.

Damn man! I feel bad using this after all the help you gave me earlier, but it was you who put this together so I suppose it's fair!
Incredible work! It works flawlessly. Thank you, once again! :D

I don't mind the settings and templates so much, but is there an easy way to copy all pages/chapters from my smackjeeves site over to comic fury without uploading each single page again? I have more then 300 pages and 15 chapters.

If our move from the VPS to the private server actually ever completes, I could potentially look into some sort of tool to scrape and mirror your webcomics from your smackjeeves account automatically, but no promises though.

e: this almost definitely won't happen, sorry. I looked into it, but the only way I found to 100% reliably do this would have to mess with your templates, and at that point I'm a little afraid of breaking peoples webcomics, not to mention that it'd stop working a week later

I fixed a bug where translated layouts would sometimes not have their comic images centered, when the smackjeeves layout would. If you have a layout suffering from this problem, and you haven't made any changes to it yet, you can just re-convert it to get an updated version.

If you have changed your layout, and you're suffering from this problem, head into your webcomic management -> Edit Layout -> Comic Page

In the HTML code, find:
[v:comicimage]

replace with:
<style>
#comic_area, #comic_area_inner
{
	display: inline-block;
	margin: 0 auto;
	position: relative;
	text-align: left;
}
</style>
<div id="comic_area"><div id="comic_area_inner">[v:comicimage]</div></div>

Hi Kyo,

I have some little issues with the style converter.
http://katran.thecomicseries.com/
On the right there should be normally a preview of the latest page.
And when I click it I can see the picture directly but not the page.
That little preview should link to it http://katran.thecomicseries.com/comics/1

What do I have to change?

Maybe belated; but I have a preview that shows up on hover on my archives page. It took some time for me to figure it out, especially that building layouts are not my forte. Using Firefox + checking and tinkering the source helped.
Most likely this is what I used to set it up: https://github.com/alanphoon/jquery-live-preview
You will be uploading extra files. Most of the code will be placed under "Overall" and a class tag in "Archive" I believe.

I think this is probably where the thumbnail of your latest page went before, which is a feature we don't have currently. If you invite me as an author with HTML privileges I can swap it out for the regular page image for you, if you want

eishiya from our community came to the same conclusion.
They suggested to exchange this part
[c:hascomics]
	<div id="latest-comic">
		<h3>Latest Comic:</h3>
		<a href="/comics/">[v:latestcomictitle]<br />
		<img src="{latest_comic.THUMBNAIL_IMG_SRC}" /></a>
	</div>
	[/]

With

[c:hascomics]
	<div id="latest-comic">
		<h3>Latest Comic:</h3>
		<a href="/comics/">[v:latestcomictitle]<br />
		<img src="[v:latestcomicimageurl]" class="thumbnail" /></a>
	</div>
	[/]

And add this into the CSS
img.thumbnail {
    max-height: 125px;
    max-width: 125px;
    height: auto;
    width: auto;
}

But this would just load the original page and scale it down ...and my pages are a little bit bigger 820px × 1,142px ...which could be a little bit load heavy.

EDIT--------------------------

Ah I see ...here was the thumbnail function also used.
http://katran.thecomicseries.com/archive

Now are there just empty previews if someone hovers over the page titles.

I think the safest way for now would be to rebuild the archive into a list of page titles - I'm planning to do that in the future. Gotta poke around the code more though. D:

Then we only have to remove the thumbnail-hover line.

I personally think it's an acceptable solution, since the image gets cached and I'd imagine most people would click through to the latest page, and end up loading it anyway. Obviously it's not ideal though, you're right about that.

Another thing you could do if you wanted is to style your page a bit differently (and this is me just sort of spitballing here) to be like our version of the overview page, where there's a full page image, navigation buttons, the blogs and a link for the comments. Obviously that's quite different from what you asked for, I'm just throwing it out there as an alternative.

You should be able to get rid of this if you go to your webcomic management -> edit layout -> archive

find:
 onMouseOver="ddrivetip(thumbnail(''))" onMouseOut="hideddrivetip()"

and remove it.

I'll actually go see if this is fairly uniform accross smackjeeves layouts. If so, I could just have the layout converter do that automatically.

Merged Doublepost:

Okay, I updated the converter to automatically get rid of the preview screens on the archive where it can recognize it. This should work on most layouts. I also looked over everything again and fixed some slight issues, if you haven't edited your layout at all since converting, it's probably worth re-converting it to fix some small things here and there (e.g. apparently the latest comic link was replaced with the wrong thing on the overview page, if you already edited your layout, you might want to check that that's in order on yours).

Your quick navigation menu works for me in both firefox and chrome. Do you maybe have some sort of browser plugin blocking scripts by any chance? Or what browser are you using?
