Disqus is a great, portable, commenting system which can bring great discussions to your site, allowing people to sign in from Facebook, Twitter, Openid, email, etc. Its is used by many great sites and communities like Worpdress, Blogger and Tumblr ^_^ I swear by it, I no longer use Wordpress' native commenting system.

Disqus.com

If you get little or no comments at all on your comic, give Disqus a try. Make it simple for your readers to comment, not all of them are CF users. Sign up, get your forum's shortname and place this code on your Comic strip display theme wherever you want your disqus comments to show up:

<div id="disqus_thread"></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
    /* * * CONFIGURATION VARIABLES: EDIT BEFORE PASTING INTO YOUR WEBPAGE * * */
    var disqus_shortname = 'himyf';
  var disqus_identifier = '[v:comicid]';
var disqus_url = 'http://himyf.com/comics/pl/[v:comicid]';

    /* * * DON'T EDIT BELOW THIS LINE * * */
    (function() {
        var dsq = document.createElement('script'); dsq.type = 'text/javascript'; dsq.async = true;
        dsq.src = 'http://' + disqus_shortname + '.disqus.com/embed.js';
        (document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0] || document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0]).appendChild(dsq);
    })();
</script>
<noscript>Please enable JavaScript to view the <a href="http://disqus.com/?ref_noscript">comments powered by Disqus.</a></noscript>
<a href="http://disqus.com" class="dsq-brlink">blog comments powered by <span class="logo-disqus">Disqus</span></a>

Let's analyze the code variables:

var disqus_shortname = 'himyf'; // Replace with your forum's name!

var disqus_identifier = '[v:comicid]'; // Do not change it, the comicid ties the comments with their respective comic.

var disqus_url = 'http://himyf.com/comics/pl/[v:comicid]'; // Replace himyf.com with your comic's URL e.g. Name.thecomicseries.com/comics/[v:comicid]

That'd be all ^__^

You can check this code in action at my site: HIMYF.com

Seems cool.

I like the CF system because I'm largely CF-based and it ties into the comic profile and stuff.

Technical point: nonmembers can comment using the normal CF comment system.

I bring it up because 90% of my commenters are nonmembers.

Yes they do. And often people that sign up to subscribe to us are the people who left a lot of non-user comments.

I think it depends. I dragged a few people with me when I moved from my previous work, and still get some stragglers. If you don't have an existing audience, it's probably less common.

[QUOTE=Zirta]blah blah :P[\QUOTE]

Are you advertising outside of ComicFury?

I can be both a hypocrite and an administrator, thank you zeph. The reason it bugs me is that this is a thread supposed to help people and swapping to another language is not going to be helpful for people who read it. gosh.

edit: it's like jesus. No one is flawless, but if I stopped enforcing all the rules I broke at some point in my life, the forums would be a pretty shitty place. Not like I banned you for it or anything

Mmm it's not that aesthetically pleasing first off. Secondly, I don't think this system will be that much use to the average CFer because many of them don't advertise and their entire fan base is CF users (why log into facebook/tumblr/twitter whatever to make a comment that you can just do from CF where you are already logged in?) Unless you advertise a lot outside of CF, and you get a large number of non-CF users I don't think it will be that useful.

But it is a cool idea nonetheless, even though I don't like the appearance that much.

I use Disqus on my tumblr and it's really spiffy. It's also nice to use it if your webcomic is on your own server because it keeps bots from cluttering your resources.

But while I do love the twitter integration, I've put a lot of ameteur HTML work into putting CF's standard comment system in my layout and I like that. It would be too cluttersome to have two comment systems on each page.

No me gusta.
